    Direct Download Pre-order?

Is there going to be a direct download pre-order? I know you guys have team up with Steam for many of your games and i am hoping this will happen again. The last game i bought on a dvd was in 2008. I am a huge fan of X-Com UFO Defense, it is in my top 2 games of all time.

They've said it'll be up on Steam closer to the release date, so no worries.

In fact the main worry is that the game will ONLY be available via digital distribution, not if it will be available or not on steam.

Who would be worried about this? Digital is the way to go and has been for years. No clue why anybody would buy games/software any other way (outside of connectivity issues). There can't be that many people who lack a connection worthy of digital these days and since gaming is an optional luxury...bummer for them. Why should companies go thru the hassles and profit loss of retail when digital is vastly superior in lots of ways for both them and customers?

That said, I would be shocked if this game wasn't available via brick & mortar.

Perhaps because we are running out of global bandwidth? Perhaps because internet connectivity is nowhere NEAR being globally available in a cheap, or even available sense. (The best my region can get is a mifi connection that grants five gigs IN A MONTH for fifty bucks.)

People keep saying digital only is the future without realizing that bandwidth is a finite resource that we are rapidly running out of. Every year it gets harder and harder to find decent data plans, unlimited plans are disappearing, and the infrastructure (at least in america) is spotty and around the country and not even close to uniform. According to the FCC, we will run out of bandwidth in two years, which will stifle downloads and run this rather "digital only future" people love to talk about.

Educate yourself a bit mate. Here.

If you want a digital only future, I say get off your tush and fix the major problems that doesn't cut off a significant chunk of customers who simply can't get things without brick and mortar. I am lucky enough that in a few months I should hopefully live somewhere where I can get decent internet, but there will still be many, many people who are cut off.

Its maddening how people don't seem to get this.

@Nashk - Or you could, you know, upgrade your data transfer infrastructure. And unlimited data plans disappearing is only happening because big telecoms are greedy and unscrupulous. I don't see how you could ever view data transfer capacity as a finite resource any more than you could view, say, public transit capacity as a finite resource. Increase the capacity, push for a pro-consumer ethos in the telecom provider space, and we're good re: a digital future.

Also "educate" and a link to penny arcade in the same sentence? Luls.

    1. Extra Credits is not Penny Arcade. they are under penny arcade, as they had to leave the escapist, but not associated with them.

    2. Bandwidth is limited. You can only communicate over a certain wavelength of radiation, and that is limited. Please watch the video, I am sorry if I seem rude but this is a very real problem that needs to be addressed. Think of it like this. The radiation wavelength is like a tunnel. Internet usage is traffic. The tunnel can never get bigger, or expanded, so as more and more bandwidth is used and more and more people get connected, the tunnel gets clogged and eventually can take no more traffic.

    3. I can't update my data transfer structure. Trust me, I tried. I even offered to pay for a new tower to get better internet. Was a no go.

    4. While corporate greed is a real thing, the fact is that is not the only factor. They own a limited resource that everyone wants. Supply cannot meet demand after a certain point, and thus price goes up.

I guess we were talking about different things. I meant cable internet, not wireless, and I'll concede the possibility of wireless internet being limited by saturation. Financial incentives and subsidies for more people to switch to cable? However, I doubt it'll ever happen as all the big telecoms I've had the misfortune of dealing with seem incapable of any kind of long term thinking. Again, pushing for a more intelligent and pro-customer ethos in the field of big telecom providers would help toward solving that.

I am trying to find the source that this will be available on Steam, and I have no success in finding any. Not sure if this is another rumour taken for granted or if the Devs/2K have confirmed it.

The only real info I have found is the "XBOX, PS3 and PC" comments from the devs in all the interviews.
And that the E3 trailer was labeled with the following icons in the end:
    - XBOX360
    - XBOX Live
    - PS
    - PS3
    - PS Network
    - PC DVD-ROM Software

Anyone know were this originated from? (and No, I will not accept your word for it. give me a source)

Uuugh, I can't link you a source, but I saw with me own peepers a post by someone named "2k Greg," presumably a moderator, saying that it will be on Steam closer to release. Even without that, it's not unreasonable to assume it will be on there or even possibly use Steamworks considering that Civ 5 does.

    EDIT: Ta-daa
