Keeps crashing at turn 495/no video options

Like many on here, my game crashes at a specific turn(495) and becomes impassable. I've tried many methods to correct this...unfortunate occurrence, but to no avail. In addition to the remedies offered on the board and civ fanatics, I've contacted customer support twice by phone(Ticket #118462). They were nice, but the links and suggestions they offered at the time were unfortunately fruitless. If this were not bad enough, I have no ability to choose any video options(they're just blank). I would like to adjust those, maybe turn tessellation off. I read that worked for one individual. Anyways, I've tried the following:

    *.1. Open up your config.ini (My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V/)
    2. Look for the following line: EnableGameCoreThreading = 1
    3. Change it to: EnableGameCoreThreading = 0

    *.-Start Steam
    -Go to Library
-Right-click your game from the left side
    -Click properties
-Go to the Local Files tab
-Click Verify Integrity of Game Cache
-When done Verifying Integrity of Game Cache next Defragment Cache Files.

*. I've also did what the CG suggested by changing MaxSimultaneousThreads = 8 to 4

*I've tried staying in strategic mode.

*. I've loaded a different game then loaded the save right before it hits 495.

*.I've deleted all the db files.

*. I've disabled my motherboards onboard video.

    *. crashes in dx9/11

It's very frustrating. I've never played a Civilization game before, I'm hooked and want this to work.I just wrangled control of all but 3 of the uranium on the map, I'm preparing to launch my global offensive. Then BAM! SO, I Formatted, reinstalled Win 7 pro,Civ, updated ALL my drivers, and still no such luck. PLEASE HELP ME!!!Yes I am playing on the world map.

You should upload the save-game to MediaFire and provide a link to it here in this, your thread.

    MediaFire info:
    http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread...81#post1598481

Post it here so it doesn't get lost and optionally make a post in the thread I just linked too.

Specific save-games that cause crashes are very good to provide to the developers.

If you have any .mdmp files:

Those would be useful too, but, if your save-game creates crashes then you would assume that that would also create .mdmp files on the developer's end too starting with just the save-game.

Also I'm seeing that this thread is showing a post count higher than what is visible to myself. This is usually because you made a post with a link in it. The forum software places restrictions on new users to help keep down SPAM. So, that means that initially your posts with links in them have to be approved. You can try to send a Private Message to one of the moderators like Codex, IllusionOfLife, japester, or any other moderator you may see online at the bottom of the main page. Moderators have the ability to remove those initial limitations on your account so you can post links freely.

Thanks for the tip Headkase. I did in fact post links to my dxdiag and msinfo because the forum wouldn't let me post using the code button. Ill send the mods a pm right now.

FWIW the game also crashed for me when I pressed the next turn, even though it went through a lot of animation etc and I thought that it was working.

it might just help to validate that the issue was not directly to do with the OP's setup

After G&K, I have a similar problem here.
After 145 turns with my friend (team 1) and two AI civs (team 2), when we click End Turn, the game crash.
We tried to reload an older savegame, but when the same moment comes, we got a crash.
Now, we can't play it anymore.

    Thank you.

OP - this is why you have no video options

    Current Mode: 1176 x 664 (32 bit) (59Hz)

Civ 5 minimum resolution is a 768 resolution

To the others in this thread, please start a new thread - adding non related issues to this thread, will all but ensure, that your posts get lost in the shuffle, and noone helps you

@QuantumTarantino. I changed my resolution to a few much higher resolutions , but still no video options appeared and it still crashes at the exact same point. :-(. Thank you though.

Thank you Dibbles for confirming that it's not my particular setup causing the crash.

We need to work out the resolution first.

Set your desktop resolution to something above the minimum resolution, and then rename your civ 5 folder, in my documents / my games?

@QuantumTarantino. I set a higher resolution using the Nvidia control panel and renamed my documents/my games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5 to my documents/my games/civilization 5. it just made a new my documents/my games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5. the fresh Sid Meier's Civilization 5 Still has no video options and still crashes w/ the save file. IS there a way to direct steam or the civ exe to rely on the my documents/my games/civilization 5 folder? I believe i did what you directed for me to do in your post. Best Regards and thank you.

    Here ya go, Thank you.

For a couple of crashes I was in my native oddball resolution for my hdtv, I was trying some different stuff.

  18. #18
    Current Mode: 1176 x 664 (32 bit) (59Hz)
    Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor
    Monitor Model: VX37L HDTV10A
    Monitor Id: VIZ0022
    Native Mode: 1280 x 720(p) (60.000Hz)

The native mode of your monitor, is causing this, you need to have a higher resolution, before launching Civ5

So, my hdtv is causing this? It's run every game for 3 of my computers that I've built. The game ran fine for 494 turns. I'm hard pressed to believe that's the root cause after running it at different higher than 1280x 768 resolutions and having another user (Dribbles) confirmed the save file crashed for him too. It's Doubtful he was fibbing. I don't have another monitor or tv to test this. Did you by any chance d/l the save and see if it crashes on your pc? Again, I appreciate the help. I'm not ruling out that my tv may be the culprit, I'm just not willing to accept that yet. I'm not even doubting the possibility that the save is corrupt. It just seems from all the scouring through the forums here, civfanatics, and other places that my setup is not the problem. I just want to know what is definitively wrong before i dump another 494 turns and countless hours into a game and it crashes. Best regards, and thank you.

I wouldnt say its causing the crashes - the blank resolution issues sure though.

    Troubleshooting sometimes, sucks

The crashing is UNLIKELY to be related to the blank options, but there is no way to rule it out :/

Running the save on other PC's only confirms that it crashes here, it doesnt let us rule out, something on your machine corruting it along the way.

Right now, sadly, we cant rule out ANYTHING, too little information to do that.
