If you had to fight aliens for real which weapon would you choose ?

When the aliens do come to earth and you had the choice between a laser pistol or a heavy plasma riffle, which one would you choose ?

    Heavy Plas, mate.
Laser pistols are terrible against the larger breeds, and are woefully in accurate at long range.

Sure, I need clips for the plas, but I can always loot those from the aliens.

I would go for a laser pistol, so I can take it with me on my bike ! And shoot while driving my bike, like a drive by shooting ! and the aliens be in the hedges ! =D Hopefully I am too fast for them to catch me or hit me !

Smart eh ?! (just being funny )

    I assumed greys only lol.

I'll be realistic and choose the laser pistol.
Survivability, longevity and versatility first; Fighting back and badassery later.
    If possible join XCOM.
I'd be dead either way but at least I've contributed in saving humanity.
Plus if I somehow do managed to make it out alive long enough, I might also get the heavy plasma as well so I get both weapons,
though it's ultimately the commander's decision what I get.

Won't need one. Psi-Fu up side their heads.

If only you had psi powers... then you wouldn't have to put up this poll.

    Dam no remote control SHIV?!!

Heavy plasma rifle all the way. Start shooting from further away, no way I would want a Muton up close and personal!

If I were to choose between them to kill an alien, I would use the plasma rifle. If I had to choose a weapon it would most definitally be the laser pistol simply because of it's unlimited ammo. I don't think people really understand what a burden limited ammo is on the battlefield, the truth of it is.... limited supplies loses more engagements and wars than the machines themselves.

You will not find it difficult to prove that battles, campaigns, and even wars have been won or lost primarily because of logistics. - General Dwight D. Eisenhower

The tactics...no, amateurs discuss tactics,.... Professional soldiers study logistics. - Tom Clancy, Red Storm Rising

Laser pistol for sure. Yes, it might pack a limited punch (though still comparable to a good rifle shot!), but the unlimited ammo is the main selling pitch. You don't need to conserve it, you'll never run out (or at the very least, it would last you a whole damn longer than the limited amount of plasma clips). This gives you more survivability and flexibility in case of an alien attack.

A laser rifle would be better though.

Yeah, Aliens that melt when coming into contact with water invade a planet that consists for more than 70% of water ... Smart move on their part.

On topic: Skybuck, do you mean Plasma Rifle or Heavy Plasma? Because there is a difference between the two.

I would assume the heavy plasma since it has an auto shot feature and a design that makes it seem like a bulkier plasma rifle.

Yeah, I would totally go for Las rifles over plasma.
Sure it might take a big more to kill chrysallids, but at least with the infinite ammo feature I could just hold down the trigger and hope for the best.

Seeing the Gun policy we got over here, im screwed

But, if i have to make a decision, ill take a laser.
After the alien invasion, i still get to use the laser as i cant produce or prolly wont be able to buy them plasma clips.

Ofc i survive the alien attack, i killed a few hundreds if not thousands over the years so i know what to do.

I chose Heavy Plasma, but if I could choose I would pick a weapon that is not as clumsy and random as a plasma or a laser gun, but a weapon from a more civilized age. Of course, I'm referring to a Blaster Launcher.

    I ment the heavy plasma

I can vaguely remember, I once played a terror mission, with all heavy plasma's, there were so many aliens, I ran out of clips.

From that moment on I made sure that some strong soldiers always had some laser pistols, or laser riffles, the laser pistol is small and light so doesn't take up much space in the backpack.

So it's real nice to have when running out of ammo, ofcourse searching for clips is nice too but no garantuee and could lead to death.

Also I started selling heavy plasma clips later I stopped with that... it don't make much sense to sell heave plasmas without the clips... gotta be fair to buyer ! I was kinda hoping the weapons would end up in civilian hands or maybe even all aliens have heavy plasma which they bought from me

What difficulty did you have on? I never ran out of clips for my men. I always packed 2 per heavy plas; one for the weapon and one spare.

In fact, the only weapons I ran out of ammo for in X-COM: UD and X-COM: TFTD were the rocket launchers and the harpoon weapons.

Laser rifle i use to blast away walls from Warehouse's if there are chrysalids so i got the distance still.
So its not a bad idea to bring them along.

Suck to kill a Civilian that way tho but still better than losing a good soldier (yea i take care of my rookies )

ar15/m4 using m855 steel penetrator rounds.
DU rounds out of the artillery. Maybe throw some tactical nukes in there to "spice" things up even more.
    00 buck (@ -40meters) and slugs at -100 meters.
any closer combat contact than that and I'm just going to hide / run, or wiz myself.

...unless they are peaceful. Then I'll ask them if they want to come over for beer and steaks.
Afterward I will ask them to take me with them back to their planet, because I have a sneaking suspicion they are actually from Tralfamador and hold captive super-model women from Earth. Good on you if you've read Slaughterhouse Five (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...I9hyKo-pzlve1A)

It depends on the specific situation. If I'm part of an organized army, the heavy plasma gun. If I'm part of some impoverished resistance movement/trying to hide like a rat while the aliens operate with impunity, the laspistol's much greater ammo supply will be more useful to me.

6mm (telescoped) Laser-inducted Electro-Thermal Guass-Assisted Kinetic Assault Rifle, w/ advanced HUD-linked gun cam variable reflex scope, x-ray/heartbeat sensor attachment, firing nano-adjusting Plasmic-Incendiary Armor Piercing spikes.

Oh wait, something from XCOM? Assault Rifle. 'Cause I like the design of the assault rifle.

Laser pistol, most deffinetly. Here's why.

If I come in contact with anything that needs a heavy plasma to kill, I'm probably out-gunned and outnumbered anyway. Also, once they see heavy plasma, I become a priority threat for them to converge on. Also, heavy plasma is heavy so I can't run as fast to get away. Since you can't outrun them, your only real option is to stand and gun them all down, which would be improbable to begin with, but compounded by a limited amo supply.

In contrast, a laser pistol is light. You're best strategy for survival is to avoid engagement, and you can run faster with a pistol. If they do get close, a shot or two will at least slow them down, even if it doesn't bring them down. You can rinse and repeat as much as you need, running and hiding for months. With no ammo to worry about, you can also use the pistol liberally to start fires, shoot through locked doors, hunt game, generate a burst of light in dark areas, and cut tools. Not to mention, it gives you more authority in leading other survivors.

If you want to go out in a blaze of glory and kill as many aliens as you can with you, go ahead and choose heavy plasma. If you want to survive, you need to disengage, hide, and live someplace scarce. For that, you'll need a laser pistol.

Actually, the "heavy" plasma isn't that heavy.
It weighs as much in-game as an assault rifle, and only slightly more than a laser rifle.
The reason why its called "heavy" is because its the heaviest weapon in the plasma family, and due to the absurd amount of firepower it can churn out.

So basically, if you can carry (and run with a rifle), you can probably carry a heavy plas.
