If these Aleins are from Mars...

In the original X-com the aliens were invading from Mars and you had to head there and take them out.

If XCEU follows suit and brings our bedeviling invaders from the red planet, I have to wonder about the other denizens of Barsoom. What are John Carter, Dejah Thoris and Tars Tarkas doing about it?

Not at all. He's from Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars series which the recent Disney film was sort of inspired by. With all the liberties they took it was almost hard to tell.

I was just using the connection of them both involving Mars.

There are so many topics of a serious or semi-serious nature and that is great. However, I thought one purely lighthearted might be nice too.

Oh ok, I get it ^^
Well, considering how John Carter was sometime in the 19th century and X-COM takes place in the 20th...yeah, he's dead.

... hate to say it, but it looks like these aliens are from a mothership not mars, at least thats what the last stand trailer seems to show in the opening sections. Kinda like the independence day movie.

    • Seeing as the events of the story had taken place a very long time ago, the hostile nature of the new Martian denizens and the fact that we don't see any Martian natives that we have seen from the story within their ranks, I would assume that they have invaded Mars and annihilated the former denizens of the planet.
    • Survivors would have fled elsewhere, leaving the red planet for the alien invaders themselves.
    • If John Carter and other the major characters survived the onslaught, he and others would've lived and died on another location.
    • He would still be dead by the time of X-COM though given our limited lifespan, unless he found a life extending substance or relic from the new planet/moon/etc. that is (Pray it's not LV-223).

Take note however that I am not an expert on John Carter lore so take my assumptions with a grain of salt.

    Sadly, it's simple:

The aliens that Xcom are fighting lied about where they are from. It's just another example as to how evil they really are.

(If you can't trust an aggressive, advanced, alien invading force intent on world domination and destruction...who can you trust?)

I thought the aliens were originally from Earth. That's what I understood about the presence of T'Leth and what that brain was saying shortly before getting blasted.

I thought the aliens were from even further away, at some point had mars as a colony, then later earth as a kind of experiment or place for growing foodstuff (aka humans and the like). then they apparently lost interest for a while, and when they came back, humans had just developed a little too far - they were overripe and resisted the harvesting efforts.

but it's true, the new backstory will probably be a little different, I've seen the "mothership" in the intro too, and I'm wondering how that will fit into the story... it certainly smells of a whole new xcom franchise (new xcom-interceptor anyone? )

I think they have ditched the Mars home world. I am thinking the mother ship from the other side of the universe. Even if we smash it there is a massive window for the sequal, that was only the first mothership etc.

+1 for the venus expansion pack

They sacrificed themselves to close the hellgate, of course. Then the aliens built on the ruins. So when humanity kicks them to the curb and then try to colonize mars, they will accidentally open the hellgate back up, and then the sequel starts...

Hmm, actually, an XCOM type game set in the DOOM universe would be kind of cool.

Oh, and +1 for the Venus Vixens DLC. Could be a "cosmetic upgrade" to a soldier.

Both... what? An alien babe and a fox?

    Probably this.

Hmm... actually, an "Island of Dr. Moreau" DLC would be kind of cool, too.

    Yeah, that's what I meant.
An X-COM themed "Island of Dr. Moreau" would be interested.
Instead of a mad scientist grafting together animals, maybe it should be about an organization/mad scientist grafting together different breeds of aliens. Or genetically altering them, either way works.

Just imagine it...a tentaculat crossed with an ethereal.
