    Keep crashing late game?

I run on a really decent set up so it's not because my computer can't handle it but I keep crashing late game (I'm at about 1900 now) It never happens early game and each game I've made I can get to about 16-1700 with zero crashes and then they start happening. At first I can just log back in and go another 100 turns with no crash, but then it starts happening every 25 turns then every 5 turns and keeps scaling until it's impossible to play

It's the buggy patch - just wait till they fix it or let us roll back to the version that worked without problems.

The driver you are running on that awesome card, is likely contributing to the issue

Update the driver, and give it a try

  12. #12
ok, now when it crashes, what exactly is happening?

Just a freeze. I click next turn and it says please wait with the orb as my cursor indicating it's waiting and I can't move the screen at all, I have to ctrl alt delete and end the program to even get out

  14. #14
OK, SAME issue i am having, at home.

That machine is running Win8 however, and may not be relevant, but it IS running a AMD radeon.

When i get home, ill compare DXDIAG

If you could post the new ones video section, that would be great

Great, can you try the game on a lower resolution, and see if it goes longer between freezes

I'll give it a go. I'd like to add I've been playing in nothing but strategic mode since this started happening

Got about 4 turns in. This might mean something but I've noticed in the past few days when this starts happening that if I try to keep forcing the game to shut down then restarting at my last save I get fewer and fewer moves in each time rather than if I just close down for the night and get on the next day I can usually get 50+ moves in before this happens.

This is happening randomly and not on a specific turn? Also, it's not crashing outright (quiting to desktop), but simply hanging? Thanks.

That is 100% correct. It freezes up and sticks in one position

So is this just a patch issue or is there something wrong on my end?

  24. #24
Not your end Reddot - it happens to me too.

I was playing last night, trying to replicate it reliably, and i could not, though i thik it was my fault.

When i was playing initially, i had rockmelt open, and when Civ5 reached 755,000 Memory used in task manager, it stopped responding.

When i went to replicate it, i was stupid, and closed rockmelt, and was unable to freeze, even as the memory used, got over 900,000

Same behaviour as you though reddot - freeze, tab out to task manager, and it is not responding (but the CPU is chugging away)

I see a lot of people have this same issue, does anyone know of a fix?

  26. #26
Reddot, so far there are 3 of us that share the symptoms.

It is easy to try to attribute other issues to the same one we are experiencing, but it just muddies it.

Right now, there are 3 users, who run AMD Radeon cards, use strategic mode almost exclusively, and are having a solid freeze, resulting in not responding in the task manager when checking.

If we keep it tight and precise, it will be found more easily.

Alright, i'll just keep playing and saving and posting any similarities I have in crashes

  28. #28
Cool beans, i think i have it tracked down.

Can you do me a favor?

Last night, when i couldnt get it to crash, i was in and out of Strategic, so i could check religious allegiances of cities.

If you toggle every few turns, can you tell me if the freezes continue

Got about 5 turns in, did 3 turns in 3D mode 2 in strategic then it crashed. Was at 942k in the processes and 70% physical usage, 25% cpu usage

  30. #30
ok, good to know, i wasnt sure if it was from that, or from closing rockmelt that caused me to last longer, im fairly sure it was closing rockmelt

I'm only getting like 3 turns in each time so I'm going to wait until tomorrow to try again because that's the only way I can play more than 10 turns
