So... I started up TF2 last night and got a mysterious update, one which did not get a blog post. Once I got into the game I couldn't help but notice all the mysterious lint and banana peels I was having randomly dropped in my inventory.

I was in a game earlier and people were talking about a major update coming tomorrow, and some stuff about Meet the Pyro. Are these just baseless rumors or is there actually some stuff on the horizon? It would make sense, in preparation for the inevitable Steam summer sale.

I created this thread to sort of ask for clarification, but TF2 needed its own thread in general, so discussion is not limited to my question.

I've only been really playing for a few months now (I've only recently gotten my hands on a competent computer) and this is the first major update I've seen. It's fun, putting all the clues together. I think it's all hinting at Meet the Pyro (several of the new items have burn marks on them) but I can't be sure.

EDIT: Okay, it's GOTTA be Meet the Pyro.

Indeed. Apparently the post contained a morse-code message that translates to "monday". Probably a hint that the ARG will continue after the weekend (Valve needs rest, too). Either that or they'll just come out and say it.

I'm hoping that Meet the Pyro is special in some way, given that Pyro is such a mysterious character. It almost reminds me of speculating on what's inside a Big Daddy's diving suit...

EDIT: Check out the front page of the TF2 wiki. Most of it is Pyro mumbling and there are burn marks everywhere. Also worth noting that Pyro is the only character on the page who isn't replaced with a pile of ash.

(By the way, for the past two years the Steam summer sale has started on the last Thursday of June. Since Meet the Pyro comes Wednesday, I guess we can assume the sale is coming this week.)

Medic and Spy were the best, but this one is still one of my favorites.

Went back and watched it with subtitles to see if I missed anything, and after doing so I am completely convinced that Pyro is a woman. The lyrics of the song, the subtitles when Scout is talking and the whole "candyland" theme of Pyro's dream world all lead me to believe that the community has been right all along.

Anyway, I just want to know when the update is going live.

The Scout translation was bugged, he doesn't say she or anything. It has already been shot down many times on SPUF.

As for the update,

Next hour or two it goes live, but don't expect to play. Severs are gonna go CRAZY,

-Heavy calls Pyro a thing
-Scout calls Pyro a he
-The song implies Pyro is "a young girl".

Damn you, Valve.

EDIT: Yeah, I see what you mean about the servers. I was hardly able to connect to Steam to begin with (assuming you were talking about Steam servers and not the TF2 ones).

Lets recap.

First, When the Pyro update came out. I crafted all of my ashes for free items, ended up only getting crates, (Around 6) and the new Sniper SMG/Pistol.

After that, I ran around trade servers for awhile. Selling my normal crates, etc. When I get this trade invite from this great fellow.

He asks for my 38's, I put up 5. And he puts up a clean Googly Gazer. (Level 66) and some of his crates. Then ask if I have any hats, I put up my dirty hats, Helm for Solly and Bonk Helm for Scout.

I hit accept, not entirely sure if he's serious. And he hits accept too, we trade and I get my second Gazer. I didn't say anything, and figured he didn't want it for some reason, he wasn't some n00b either. He was decked out in some nice things.

After doing that, I hurry off and join another Server. This other gent was asking for burnt crates. I trade him, and he ends up asking for all of my burnt crates. I put all 6 up, and he puts..

One Burnt Key.

Now, The key alone is worth about 2 Normal keys. So, I ask him if he's serious. And he just writes "Will this cover it".. I tell him it more then covers it, and he just sends "" and accepts.

So, Now with a decent amount of metal in key form. I go to Another server and put up my key for trade. When I get a invite, the person puts up Strange Rainblower (Worth 2 keys) and accepts. I do the same, and it's done.

With this, I end up trading the Rainblower to some guy for a Vintage Gun Slinger, Strange Rocket Launcher, 1 Ref, and 1 Rec. This might seem like underpaying, But on this Other server, one guy was Really wanting a Vintage Gun Slinger. So, After doing that. I rejoin that server and sell it to him for 1 Ref.

After that, I find this guy selling the new Demo Bird Music. So, I quickly buy it for little under 2 Keys. Turns out he wanted the strange RL.

So, After that, I see someone selling the new Spy suit for 2 Ref. I trade my Gazer for the payment, And get it with only the Gazer.

Yes. It's pretty good, but you've really gotta pay close attention to where the Australium (works just like Intelligence for gameplay purposes) is and which team has it. Snipers seem to have a good time with the map as well.

But it means you kicked someone's ass so hard that they can't comprehend what just happened.

I was on 2Fort, and the enemy had our intelligence in the room right outside their cap. I was a Scout, and I'd managed to zig-zag my way through their defenses and kill the carrier before he scored. Anyway, I lit up a camp fire and killed the poor guy six times before the intelligence returned to our base.

Oh, and I immediately proceeded to capture their intelligence uninterrupted.

By the way, I had some cash burning a hole in my pocket and I ended up buying a couple of Scorched keys. Got a Fed-Fightin' Fedora and The Captain's Cocktails, which I both like very much. I understand if you don't want to spend any real currency, but I wasn't disappointed. The keys were still $5 together, so I wouldn't use them in bulk.

Captains Cocktrails look great, I wish I had another pair. No too kneen on the fedora. I prefer Bonk Boy myself.

I sadly don't have the funds for keys lately, Which both upsets me and makes want to be ballin' in Metal.

This is true, but unfortunately finding a server with good teammates and a good ping is pretty hard.

I STILL haven't played it.

Now, after having done so, I would recommend that anyone concerned NOT "Mann Up". There are several reasons for this:

-It costs a dollar per game (it is not consumed if you lose or leave).
-The minimum you can add to your Steam Wallet at a time is $5, meaning you have to buy five tickets to play.
-The item drops you receive upon completion of a game are not all MvM exclusives. All I got out of my games is a bunch of scrap.
-Mann Up servers only run advanced courses, meaning that victory is completely dependent on being placed with a good team. (Very rare)
-People are prone to rage-quit (happens in all multiplayer co-op games, but since there's a $1 entry fee finding new players is difficult)


Also, after the MvM update I'm finding that I can't play TF2 (co-op or otherwise) for over an hour or two without getting the infamous, stuttering "hl2.exe has stopped working" crash. This never happened to me before the update but it happens regularly now.

Anyway, in general MvM is a great game mode, but after I use up the rest of my tickets I'll be sticking to Boot Camp. If you haven't Manned Up yet, don't.

And if you need help getting in games, I could possible help. I've never had to wait no longer then 5 mins while hosting.

Or you could use the server browser, Look for all games with less then 6 players. Try joining any.

Well, I didn't know about the special rewards for completing six. That actually makes me feel a lot better about it, I thought it was all up to dumb luck and that left a bad impression. I may just keep trying then. (Which would mean an additional five dollars, now that I think about it. Are there any more guaranteed rewards?)

I haven't had trouble getting into games since the initial release, at first I used the browser but now I'm having no trouble getting matched to a game automatically.
