Of course, take it a step further. I want to submit my personal info so at 00:00 on Oct 12 my phone rings. When I answer I want to hear klaxxons in the background..

"Commander? We need you here. We have a situation." *click*
they'll tell you they run out of copies so you will have to wait x days till they get new ones.

I would like to see a medical or repair Shiv similar to the drones that were shown healing the Cyberdisk. Having a support Shiv could help a lot with dangerous rescues where you do not want to risk losing another trained soldier to save one who is down in a rough spot.

LOL.. that would definitely be a 'situation'.

If I ever have a parade around you, I'm bringing my umbrella.

I like that. A medical/support Shiv is a very useful idea.

Now, you've only got four or six, it makes a significant difference. I'm not pouring cold water on the game - I'm definitely buying this - but I would prefer it if the tanks didn't take up a soldier's slot. Four men and a tank sounds fine to me. There's a bit of a movie title in there somewhere.
You're forgetting something though, Double S, the SHIV does things. Sure if it didn't do anything I'd be ticked that it takes up a slot.

SHIVs don't level up or have perks, but in general they're damage sinks, though I think there's a cover chassis that takes up more damage still. They're a highly flexible platform.

So, say you've got a sniper, a heavy, a support, but you've got another support and you really want an assault. Well R2-D2 is just sitting there... makes you think?

It's an alternative to soldiers. You don't even need to research it. It depends on what you want or need to do.

The SHIV should make R2D2 noises.

That would be cool if I wasn't 100% positive that Lucas has those noises trademarked.

It would be cool.. another good reason to hope modding is supported or added later.

Tweaky from Buck Rogers? That's second on the list.

Actually, I was kind of hoping for Marvin from Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.

"I talked to the skyranger's computers... it hates me."

hope they release a new video showing other shiv capabilities/configuration, we've only seen one so far(shiv equipped with LMG w/c imo is the most basic config)

I'm wondering if they would give us the option of creating walker-type SHIVs (like a mini-sectopod) or spider-legged SHIVs. That would be pretty cool, though I do wonder what a walker SHIV's advantages would be compared to tracked/wheeled and anti-grav ones.

Or perhaps even an "Enforcer-class" SHIV.

I want a SHIV that looks like KOS-MOS or R.Daneel Olivaw. I want a hyper-realistic robot/android looking thing that can sport some serious weaponry and soak up loads of enemy fire. Honestly when I first heard about them I thought they'd be more humaniform than tank like. That being said, I honestly don't care if they aren't humanoid, I just want them to be nifty with lots of ways to turn them into machines of alien-butt-kickin!

I hope the SHIV is more conservative. It looks pretty cool from what I've seen, but the Cyberdisc I think is over the top with that crazy unfolding stuff.

Just not a toaster on wheels which it sorta looks like now. The pictures of it online look much cooler then what's in the online videos. If the cyberdisk can hover then mine should be able to too. I wouldn't mind it hitting a WYSIWYG plateau but continue to be able to have add-ons which aren't necessarily WYSIWIG but continue to make it stronger.

Don't know if a link to this interview was posted somewhere else already, but here you can see a Heavy Laser SHIV in action.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpUMe_GgHzQ

Gameplay footage starts at around 2:15. And at 3:10 you can see a soldier taking cover behind the SHIV.

So basically SHIVs are bigger high-tech versions of the real-life TALON SWORDS which are basically autonomous or remote controlled guns on wheels or tracks.

Hope we get more customization options and choices other than moving guns or shields.

So what parts of the SHIV could you customize anyway? Weapons are an obvious but could I also change its wheels and tracks into something else like, say, spider legs? Can I swap the chassis for a stronger and cool looking one? Or do I buy an entirely new SHIV to upgrade?

    it would be nice if:

    4 man squad cap + 1 shiv
    6 man squad cap + 2 shiv

by the way, anyone noticed on the demos that the shiv has a name and a support class designation? it gives me an impression that it is being remotely controlled by a support soldier.
I agree, the shiv taking no space could be explained by being underslung on the skyranger rather than being in the back with the strike team.
