Thread: How do I downgrade to the previous version?

Unhappy How do I downgrade to the previous version?

So I got auto-updated by steam and the game is now unplayable. Accessing the load game screen at all crashes the game and looking at the forum this seems like a very common problem. In further testing, whenever I try to save a game to the cloud it also crashes the same way. So I think that may be the common thread (at least for that bug)

So far I've tried the following...
    Set EnableGameCoreThreading = 0
    Reinstalled Steam
    Reinstalled Civ V
Tried running Civ 5 under a new user account
    Updated nVidia drivers to latest

While I appreciate the new super hardcore mode that I can now play in (no save / load). It's not exactly the game I was giving you $ for.

Can you please post an official way to revert to the pre 6-14 version of the game for Steam customers. Right now my best option to solve this is go pirate the game, and you can understand my reluctance to do that.

Relax. In all probability a hotfix is coming. So far 14 with the proper requirements have reported NO problems versus only 7 haviong some kind of problem per the poll here:

    http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread...with-new-patch

If you have the recommended requirements rather than the bare minimum requirements, then the odds are even greater you would have no problems by 11 to 4.

  3. #3
That small of a smaple size, is hardly relevant, but if it holds out maru, then OVER 25% OF PLAYERS WITH RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS CANT PLAY THE GAME.

This is not something to relax about, and telling someone, that only 28% of users cant play, doesnt strengthen your position.

To the OP, you appear to be having two seperate issues, lets work on issue two first, does this crash occur when you click on the load game, does it only crash when saving to cloud?

  4. #4
Uh...yeah no offense to Maru, but that poll (as well as all forum polls) is useless. It's a self-selected sample, among many many other things. The devs are working on it, but there is NO, repeat NO way for us to calculate the percentage of people running into trouble.

Yea, I don't think this is a tech specs thing. Not the latest, but by no means the minimum spec for this.
    Core i5 760 @2.8Ghz
    8GB Ram
    Windows 7 x64
    GeForce GTX 460

This doesn't appear to be a resource issue. Just horrible testing which smacks of a dependency in the upcoming expansion that wasn't regression tested against users without the expansion installed.

Its POSSIBLE that almost all the problems will disappear for everyone after the "Gods & Kings" DLC is installed in the next 2 days. It may be that the patch NEEDS the DLC to function properly. Let's hope it works out that way.

I'm sure the patch was beta tested properly and no one on the development team expected so many problems. Its possible all the beta tests were done with the DLC installed. That could explain what apparently happened so far 2 days before the DLC release.

In the meantime I have not encountered any problems with the patch so something is strange about all the problems being reported.

By the way, all polls here are not true statistical samples and are not tested with coefficients of correlation. However, its the best we have and are still better than guessing.

Nothing is strange at all Sir Maru, so please stop saying that it is.

As ive told everyone, when I am having no issues, that doesnt mean that there ISNT an issue.

Hello Matthew, very sorry you're having issues.

Could you try one or two things for me? First, could you paste the path to your My Documents\My Games/Civilization 5/ directory here? Mine, for example, is:

    C:\Users\Dennis\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5

    Thanks much!

"Possible" still leaves me concerned that I will remain incompatible with Mac...which is a major problem for playing with my family. Still believe there should be a roll back option as, while I have (unfortunately already been suckered) plunked down the money for Gods and Kings, if that doesn't resolve the cross-platform problem I will have totally wasted my money. And I'm not sure why newbies would HAVE to do that to be compatible.

No special symbols here I'm afraid, i also created a new account and tried it under the following with the same results.

    "C:\Users\mg\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5"

Installing today's (6-18-12) Steam patch did not affect this.

And you still haven't posted any information, relevant in order for us to assist you.

    Lets start with your DXDIAG

I don't think there are any grand revelations in here... http://pastebin.com/BNREF8L7

    There certainly are

    Operating System: Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030)

You are using a uncommon OS, this alone, may be causing issues that were unforseen.

14 replies and no answer to the OP question. I'll re-ask.

How do I downgrade to the previous version?

The new patch crippled Civ5 on my XP PC, and murdered Civ5 on my Win7 PC.

I'd like to downgrade to the last patch, then lock myself in offline mode to prevent future patches from breaking the game.

Easy, downgrading to a previous version is not possible.

We can try to help you with your issue on both pc's though.

Please post the exact problem. And to prevent questioning, please also do this:

And have you already tried the change in config.ini as posted in the stickied thread here?

Enterprise Edition isn't fundamentally different, nor is it uncommon. If you would like to compare credentials be my guest, but if you don't have anything helpful to add to the discussion, please stay out if.

I'm open to suggestions for troubleshooting this, but official support from 2k/Firaxis hasn't been very helpful so far.

Whoa, slow down, QT is just trying to help. The point is that your OS is not all that common among gamers so you might have unique issues that were not found during testing. Also understand this is a user forum so please respect those who are voluntarily tyring to help you.

Rather than trash everything, lets agree that your issue is that your platform and patch didn't get along. Lets also agree that the patch is wokring for most people without issue. The challenge is to find what's different about your platform.

Have you read the other many threads about issues and tried those solutions? Things like deleting the opening video may work for you.

It Certainly IS uncommon - especially in gaming circles. It is a rather "grand revelation" as you put it, and something to file down, and see if others (and in 2 years here, there have been no others) running this OS, are having issues.

You have been far from OPEN to suggestions, and from the start have been combatative.

Good luck, however at this point, you may want to stop posting here, and look into an official means of support.

    @OP:
Can you tell me if it works when playing under DX9 mode?

Before anyone gets serious on the "downgrade" suggestion, read my review of Gods & Kings here:

"Easy, downgrading to a previous version is not possible."

OK, I found the Steam option to defer updates. The easy fix would be to uninstall and reinstall Civ 5, then have 2kgames open up an FTP that has all the Civ 5 patches, and allow us to manually install all the patches except for the patch that was released last week. With Civ5 reinstalled, and updated to May 2012, I should be fixed.

    But that wont happen.

Back to real world, here are my issues with the latest patch:
    PC-1 = e6600 on ABIT AW9D-MAX, 3gb DDR2-1066, ATI 4870, WinXP sp3
    PC-2 = i7 930 on ASUS P6X58-E, 6gb DDR3-1600, ATI 5870, Win7 64 sp1

PC-1 : crash to desktop when attempting to launch a multi-player game (100% of the time)
PC-2: (Will launch multi-player game!!!!), Stuck on turn 1. I can drop a city, and move a troup, but tech-tree is missing (cannot select a tech, wont allow me to click "next turn")

Tweaking the config.ini on both PC's didn't help.
Remaning my user name (from "Tom" to "Tom2") didn't help.

Please please please allow us access to a FTP that has your patches so I can reinstall and patch up to 2nd-latest, and block future updates.

Suggest this is not a good approach. Better to start your own threads with your dxdiag posted for one pc and then the other so whatever might be different with your systems can start to be be figured out. Then you can play the most up to date game. If this is not what you want, then good luck.
