About the release of a new version for PC only.

    Hi everyone,

I bought Civilization V one week ago with 4 of my friends to be able to play all together. We started a game and enjoyed it quiet much.
But yesterday when logging to Steam we (3 PC) downloaded an automatic update for Civ V. Nothing wrong there, but the others (2 MAC) did not have any update to do, leaving us without ANY way to play together... We all bought a game ~$50 and we are now unable to play it like we would like.

So I have some questions :
    - When is the MAC update coming out ? Will there be one ?
    - Can we hope for a downgrade patch from the new version to the previous version meanwhile ? (so that we can play together with our friends at least) I'm a software developer too, I know this should not be something hard to do if you have a good versioning system

I do not blame anyone for anything (I am glad that you decided to bring MAC&PC multiplayer compatibility to the game - that is why we bought it) but now that I cannot use the game for what I bought it, I'd like some information.

    Thank you for your time.

Aspyr handles the mac version of civ 5, they will be the only one that can answer this

Thank you for your answer, I did not know that (And I find it a little weird I must say ^^).

My question about the downgrade patch still holds however. If Aspyr take 2 months to release their MAC version, we're still f***d

Actually, according to Aspyr Gods and Kings for Mac will also be out on the 19th so there is some hope that the two systems will be in sync soon.

No problem info - think of it this way.

Firaxis, had no plans for a Mac Port - no team, no projections that it would be financially viable to invest the money.

Aspyr, are the experts in this field, and can get it done alot cheaper than Firaxis can, therefore, with the SAME sales numbers, all of a sudden, money is being made.

Without Aspyr on board, we wouldnt have this issue, we just wouldnt have our mac brothers on board at all.

Okay that makes sens, I understand now.

Let's hope you're right mjs0, I'd hate not being able to play with my folks (I had the problem with RUSE, bought the game with a friend before discovering that MAC version was not (and never will be) compatible with the PC version in multiplayer).

    Let's wait the 19th then !

    Thank you.

Infotaku - I agree 100%. I play with my kids and we have both Macs and PCs. If they can't fix this ASAP, this means we are totally hosed. There should be a way to roll back to enable your ability to play cross-platforms...just as we could a few days ago.
