So, you don't agree that patch is bugged, right?
And why are there so many people in the forums crying about the buggy patch?
If i didnt think the patch had bugs, would i be here, helping people WORK THROUGH THE BUGS?

At some point they will find the problem and fix it. Until then I can live with the game on previous version.
Not difficult to get this one, right?
Youre the one that doesnt get what is being said.

Firaxis has nothing to roll back - the issue ISNT in the latest patch, it is in YOUR machine.

If you want help in solving it (and your issue is one of the few that HASNT been solved) Then make a thread.

Telling other people, who have EASILY FIXABLE ISSUES, to not pursue assistance, is not only unhelpful, it is selfish, and exposes what type of person you are being.

Do you want to continue being that person?

Then don't tell people that their hardware might be the problem (at least not now that we know what's causing most of the problems) and don't tell me that my PC is causing the BSOD, when I never had a single BSOD until this patch.
Patch is causing the crashes (and sometimes the BSOD to me) and Firaxis must offer a solution asap.
Rolling back to the patch that used to work is a good solution since this patch offers nothing that important to cause us all these troubles.

    Isn't it a fair request?

When the hardware might be the problem, ill TELL them that the hardware might be the problem.

The fact that you didnt have a BSOD prior, and do now is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT.

The patch is not the CAUSE of the crashes, your machine is, PERIOD.

What the patch MAY have done (and it may not have either) is expose the issue that your machine has, what the patch DIDNT do, is cause your machine to BSOD

PPS - The BSOD are your issue, not Firaxis'
Sorry, but the character "sloution" is not a solution, it's a workaround to THAT SPECIFIC ISSUE, that shouldn't be expected, unless Firaxis or the publisher printed in the box or manual or patch "create a new windows user without any special characters (and then proceed to list wich special characters won't work) to be able to save/load games prior playing".

The BSOD most of the time is a problem on users end, it is not a law, but formatting the pc or changing the system you are playing on, a lot of the time has better results and take less time than trying to fix it.

grdolph, what QuantumTarantino is trying to explain is that your issue is completely separate of the issue with the special characters in the path of saved files, and that BSODs are 99.9% of the times due to some faulty hardware or a low-level bug, usually in the drivers (as the various versions of Windows are by now fairly stable).

A new version of a game shouldn't be able to provoke BSODs. They may seem able to do so, but it's more that they reveal existing problems. For example, the new version could use up a lot of memory, and so some faulty memory module that was rarely used before is suddenly used regularly, and craches, provoking a BSOD. Or more simply, the new version use some new valid technics to access the video card, but the drivers of the video card are old or buggy, and these new calls provoke a BSOD.

My advice would be to write down exactly what type of error is described in the BSOD, and search for a solution over the internet. You may also want to update most of your drivers to a recent version.

I moved the folder, to no avail. You have to bear in mind that my Windows is in French, so there can be other "special" characters in the path than the profile name.

Besides, I would not want to be confrontational, but I don't understand why users who had no problem with the game for months now have to start making changes to how their system is set up because a patch seems to be making the game unplayable. I really hope that the problem will get fixed at the source.

This post was made last week. Did I miss something, or has this fix still not been released?

Out of curiosity, if you create a new login for windows that contains no special characters in the username, does this correct the problem for you? I'm not suggesting this as a permanent fix, I just want to see if this is your specific problem.

    Thanks!
I'm also having the issue of the game crashing whenever I load a game. New games work fine. But whenever I try to load one, it crashes to the desktop. In my case, I'm using a Japanese version of Windows. All file paths use "¥" instead of "/"

Does this mean I can never load a saved game?

Not until a fix comes out. Bigden already announced they are working on that, so I guess that won't take long.

Hey, I'm also experiencing problems whenever I try to load a saved game. The following error appears everytime after I click on Load Game:

I also tried out every solution you made here before. None of them worked for me. At last I reinstalled my whole OS and created a new Login (without any special characters). That didn't work either. Till today I couldn't finish at least one game. Please help me.
