    New Patch broke my game

I got the new patch today and tried loading my last game just to find out it switched my civ around and fricked eveything up, tried staring a new game and it would't let me go past the first turn or anything. THANKS 2k now I can't play the game at all, jerks.

Its not 2k's fault. Civ5 people should have tested the update first. But yeah I have the same problem. I really hope yall have a way to fix it because I miss playing this game

Rename, in case you have to restore it,

    C:\Users\<Your User Name>\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5

    to

    C:\Users\<Your User Name>\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5_Backup

Then start a new game. There is no getting around the "new game" part. For the hang-ups on launch hopefully renaming the above folder will make Civ V start with default values for you.

If Civ V is still crashing, reinstall DirectX (Download that file, run it, it will ask where to extract the files, choose somewhere, go there, run Setup.exe - .exe might not be shown). And also reinstall the Visual C++ 2008 runtime and after that go to Windows Update to get any extra security patches for it.

You put out a new patch you tell everyone the problem is with their computer. I did not change my computer you changed MY game that I bought and paid for and have been playing unimpeded for over a year. Tired of you people blaming my computer for your screw up.

Depends on your OS but go to windows help and type dxdiag (direct x diagnostic tool), In win 7 it gives you the link to create it. Create a text file and c&p into 3 posts here.

Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and press R. Then in the Run Dialog that appears type "dxdiag" without the quotes and press enter.

From that, under the "System" tab post the "Operating System" - all of what it says, post the "Processor", post the "Memory", Post the "DirectX Version."

Under the "Display" tab post the Device "Name", the Drivers "Version", and the Drivers "Date."

Under the "Sound" tab (repeat for all if more than one) post the "Name" and the Drivers "Date."

That is everything that is important.

hi i bought this game few days ago to play with my friend so i have played internet private games only. i am having almost the same issue but i can play the saved game\a new game normally. the big problem is when i load a saved game: it has a different civ... for example i started a game as babylon, played, saved and then when i loaded the game i had the denmark instead !!! on the preview of the saved game, before loading, it was ok showing my stats as babylon.looks like the problem comes when the saved game loads up. i would like to know if this is atleast an already known issue and if there is a fix or something coming up.
the game is not playable like this, i think you can't complete a full game in a row even if you are a real nerd, anyways i got a life and i can't complete a full game without saving and this issue makes the game worthless for me.

    Orchidd,

The driver date on your sound card is about 3 years old. If you can find something newer for that it would probably be a good idea. The display driver is slightly out of date but not bad. All your hardware is well above minimum.

With the patch yesterday saved games from before have problems and 2K did advise us of that (albeit a bit late). Start a new game and likely will be ok but there are other issues for some with the patch (you can see in other threads). Don't think you have any system issues.

    hi headkase,
thanks for the reply, are you a 2k employee?
anyway i usually keep the best drivers which work better for me and i honestly i don't care about audio card usually but still i run games like diablo3 (release15th may 2012), sc2, crysis2, league of legends, dota2, battlefield3 and some others without any problem... and this happened after the update.

    edit:

For those that are getting the "I can't end my first turn" bug, could you please try something for me, and let me know if it corrects your problem?

    1. Open up your config.ini (My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V/)
    2. Look for the following line: EnableGameCoreThreading = 1
    3. Change it to: EnableGameCoreThreading = 0

    Thanks, and let me know.

No I am not a 2K employee - I did moderate on this forum but that was a volunteer position and I eventually stepped down. Now I'm just a regular poster again so I don't bite my tongue as often.. There are enough posts with issues that I'm thinking it's a "developing story." I'd wait and see and just keep checking the forums for an eventual solution.

In your case, and so far, you case alone, the computer IS the issue

I changed EnableGameCoreThreading to 0 and in Single Player the game played like it ought to, waiting on a buddy of mine to try Multi. Setting it back to 1 brought back my initial problem; starting a new game- couldn't select the units or end the turn and several times wouldn't go back to the main menu or close the program.
    Hope it helps.

THIS SEEMS TO HAVE FIXED IT. I'm being tentative because I haven't played yet, just started a game to see if I can interact with units/the UI now, and i can. Will be back in an hour or so, if I can remember, to post good things. Will definitely be back if it doesn't work

Check your settings. There is a checkbox to enable it, and you may have it enabled.
