    [Suggestion] Non-Silly Looking Ski Infantry

Not sure how hard or easy this would be for the art and coding people, but I sorta wish that Denmark's Ski infantry didn't look so silly skiing through farmlands and deserts. It would be pretty cool if, when not on snow, tundra or hills, the ski infantry looked like they had their skis on their backs (and moved and fought like regular riflemen, ie reusing the same animations) and when they landed on a snow, tundra or hill square, they blinked to the unit we see currently. I'm not asking for any fancy animations of them taking off their skis or anything...just a quick blink-change.

To my mind, all it would take is the a change in the model and the scripting for the transition based on terrain type. The animations (the hardest part to modify, one would think) would remain the same (alternating between ski animations and rifleman animations).

Anyway I know this is the last priority that a dev would care about, but man does it look silly when they ski through inappropriate terrain.

I don't blame you. Little things like that can ruin the immersion of the game but if the game shines in other areas then I am willing to over look it.

Made me laugh every time. I personally love the way it is now because it's so damn goofy. i sometimes turn off strategic view with Denmark just to watch this silly unit.

I loved watching my Ski Infantry slalom through marshes, until my save data got messed up by the update, but I like the idea of the skis on their backs; I wonder if that's an easy update that can be made.

    BONK!

For those who still don't understand this game, Civ is not about deep immersion or painstaking realism. This is a game where the Mongols can win the game by building a spaceship and flying off to Alpha Centauri--that is, if they don't get nuked by Ghandi first.

You think those ski infantry look silly, wait 'til you've had a good dose of Carthage's elephants sitting atop mountains that are clearly not built to scale.

+1 for this post and for Ghandi's orgasmic, euphoric love for nukes and fat elephants on top of snow covered peaks

    Yay for Carthage!
I'm still a bit shaken up after having several nuclear wars with Gandhi.

Uh.....for me it is. And for tons of others too. That's why they removed the "trying to win the same way as me" diplomatic hit: breaks immersion.

I'm also an immersion fan. It doesn't need everything to be to scale. Archers shooting across large bodies of water doesn't break immersion - it's just how the game models it. The game showing that it knows it's a game breaks immersion, though.
