Thread: 8 man tourney #4 (Revised Rules)

    Exclamation 8 man tourney #4 (Revised Rules)

    Standard rules of fair play established in other round robin tourneys apply, except for a few new changes.

    1.)There will be use of Oxford University but not for use of Bombers or Flight. If you choose to use it to stop EITC then it will be allowed but the fighters usage you get for it will be prohibited from you until the other player decides to initiate attack with fighters.
    2.) GW requests must be accepted up to a maximum of 3 times to stop abuse of this wonder.
    3.) No use of any glitches, cheating, etc that was definitely not intended. (Use your common sense)
    4.) Upgrading units must not be taken advantage of. (no defender rushing units while attacker units upgrade, no attacking upgrading units, no city collapsing with the upgraded unit, etc.) What I mean is do not do things that you you were not supposed to be able to do if there weren't a upgrade to a opponent's unit.
    5.)Each player will play 2 games against the other 7 members. All civs must be used once, with the exception of china and america.
    6.)Disputes about freezes or glitches in this tourney will be handled by myself through coin toss if there is no agreement to be made. In most cases I should be able to resolve the dispute by decision but if that is not the case then coin toss will be made.

    After the 14 games are completed the top 4 players will move on to the playoff rounds. The 1st and 4th seed, and the 2nd and 3rd seed will meet each other in best of 3 series. The winners of the two matches will then meet in a best of 5 for the championship. Civs used in the 1st playoff round will not be eligible in the final series. The higher seed in playoff matches will host the 1st, 3rd, and 5th games. Ties between the 1-4 seeds will be broken via head to head record. If ties can't be broken in this manner the higher seed will be determined by a h2h matchup (ffa if more than 2 are tied). All ties in which to lower seed does not make the playoff will be determined by h2h or ffa play. Participation is open to all board members, regardless of status in other tourney brackets. All I ask is that entrants make effort to complete matches asap. Any and all disputes will be mediated by the tourney host (me in this case).

    I like the rules change. I would play but I'm going on vacation. And then I plan on quitting all civ except for winning the civ league. Have to go out with a bang!

    you say that fighters can't be used until your opponent attacks with fighters. the more likely scenario is they attack with bombers. are they usable against bombers?

    on your upgrade abuse be very clear on the rushing a unit in the city. it will invariably happen. someone attacks your archer defended cap with a vet WA, and wins 4.5-5. they get an upgrade but you have a couple seconds to rush another archer. the defender is supposed to surrender the city in this case right, not rush the unit they have time to rush?

    gd question dan, its hard 2 get my head around that upgrade abuse because it also means the attacker has 2 wait while the defender upgrades?

    Oh yeah Dan, if someone chooses to attack with Bombers it is fine. I thought is was obvious that there would be a disadvantage if the guy who didn't build oxford brought bombers, that you were able to use your fighters then, if you have any by then. Building Oxford University is OK for any reason besides Bombers and Flight initiated combat purposes. The exception to build for flight is in the rules and reason I allow it is because for too long there have been players that hated the notion that EITC is allowed and I have seen it do some damaging things soooo early on. So allowing Oxford Fighters is for defense purposes only until the opponent attacks with aerial units themselves.

    First Game: Multi=Greeks and Maniac=Mongols

    It was kinda a fast game as I knew where Maniac was at 6 turns into the game. I get my 100g and see that his goal may be to take over the Zulu. He takes them over and I take a barb city of his. He takes it back with a disadvantage battle but my HA takes Kakaroam and I take the Japs 100g city when Maniac decides to quit.

    Second Game: Multi=Mongols and Maniac=French

    I knew the map right off bat and named a tile I was 100% would be one and then eventually get a friendly. I meet Maniac's warrior as he has settled next to the Russians with 50g from 2 friendlies. I settle and send a warrior past his warrior that decides to defend in my tree. Americas send me a caravan so I got gold to defend myself vs a French WA attack. He eventually gets one to me but I got bronze the same turn he attacks. Before that I take out the Russians in whom he were after but he made some mistakes that cost him. He brings another WA for Moscow but I rush a archer thanks to selling bronze to the Americans and move a warrior after Maniac exhausts his units to take his cap following turn.

    i take paris and he takes berlin and zimbabwe +angor for fundy but my legions carve maniac a new 1.

    french vs maniacs japanese win
    he gets 7cog i get 3 a.i caps plus fundy for a long drawn out win,
    by the way thats the last time you kick me out of a party punk, you gota big mouth so i give it right back.owned.

    Did things a bit different and kicked it off with Packrat instead of saving it for the end this time.......

    Gm1 Packrat Mongols vs Blades French....I walked off a peninsula but managed to find two frinedlys on the way. I take out 2 pop Russia as well. Packrat did one better and found the English for monarchy, he just happened to have a barb next to dye....nice....So I find Germany with my HA and begin attacking.....anyways I thought I was playing pretty well until Packrat turned his mongol advantage into 2 vet KA's at 1200BC to crush me....got it at 4 tecs the stinkin varmit and apparently abused germany via trades and threats for some decent cash. GG packrat....nice crushing

    Gm2 Blades Mongs vs Packrats French

    Ok so I find pop 3 china at 3500 with 35 gold(friendly + tile). I always have trouble taking them out, anyways, I was quite proud of myself. I rush a unit and let the chinese warrior walk toward my cap(by introducing myself). I then rush a second warrior and attack with the chinese injuring the warrior. I take my second warrior and walk beside the chinese waririor next to the open cap. Turn ends and the chinese warrior heals like always instead of moving into the city and I get a walkin. Nice......I love that trick....I get a HA out and find packrat shortly after not having much gold he calls it.....GG

    How did you make the Chinese warrior leave the cap? They never move their only warrior out?!

    I gather by "introducing yourself". But whenever you introduce yourself to the AI, they leave their warrior in the cap or move them back immediately if it is out. The exceptions are Germans and Arabs. They do weird stuff frequently with their warrior and move it out even though yours is right next to the cap.

    I meant to say by not introducing myself....where they were there was only one logical way for the warrior to walk

    Just played 2 against maniac

    Gm1 Maniac Azec vs Blades Russia

    Man I took an ai and the next turn he shows up outside my cap with WA. I have a unit in my cap from hammers and move the one from the ai next to it. Next turn i run out before he can attack and have two warriors next to my cap, he taes it before i rush another in my ai cap and when he taes my cap he steals 3 gold which is enough to prevent me from rushing. Next turn I rush the warrior and form the warmy just as he attacks so he loses the 3-3 and I take him out a few turns later. GG, whoever won the 50-50 had it.

    Gm2 Maniac English vs Blades Japan

    Well I know I pissed him off because I was on a hill outside rome and sacrificed a spy to lure his HA in range so I could attac with my HA off the hill. He has faster start though taking china around turn 5 and getting his hundred gold fast. He then flips my 3 city. I had found SoC and used the GE to get 100g and he flipped my city with the GA in it. Used it to double settle because I had just found AW for GW. Anyways GW gives me the time to expand plus I end up taking spain pretty late. Rome had a AA so i couldnt take them after killing maniacs horses but I stole a GL from them so i didnt care. Never got to use it as after I destroyed a KA and 2LAs taking my city back he withdrew. GGs

    Yeah it did seem you played it right... Why if I was in that situation... I'd be too scared of losing my AI cap to prevent my cap from being taken? When I'm in that situation again I'll post how I dealt with it, probably the same way you did.

    Lemme fined' out multi started this tourney and disappeared.....Got one in with x...quite enjoyable.

    Gm1 Da X France vs Blades Greece

    So I had a horribly slow start as did he. Neither of us got our 100g till 1200BC or so but we both kicked into gear well. He starts on a long peninsula but practices slick tactics to take China eventually. He also find GP and expands quite nicely in ancient, I assume settling most in Midevil then popping a GH on them as well. i had taken the tec lead at this point though pretty good. I got my 100g a good 10 turns after him but I did it by finding 7CoG. I also had made a beeline for thebes taking them with CoR out around 1200BC finally. So he is french I rushed to walls and got the bonus in thebes. I saw him flip a USA city and was thankful to this. Anyways I used my first GP on Sam Castle and sent fundy knights after him shortly after his plan went bad. That was all she wrote. GG X! 1-0 Blades

    Nah man, I had to get together with family and meet my brothers new girlfriend. I was about 70 miles away from home and really having some fun that Id regret I didn't go.

    MultiPlayaBeast vs Da Xcutionerz

    Game 1: Multi=Japanese and X=Greeks

    I start on some garbage peninsula but my settler walking showed me two barbs so I settle at 3800 bc. X thinks he on a island but by the time he figures he is he deals with being on it because he spots 7cog. He grabs it and I'm a bit nervous but I feel that this gives me opportunity to rule on the mailand. I tech hbr and have my 100g soon too, so I aim for 4pop China. Take them out relatively easy at 2400bc and then take out some more barbs. I encounter X galley at a barb but I win a button battle so now we have bad blood, lol. I spot the Arabs and take them real easy even though it was past 1900 bc, guess they got no barbs plus never met anyone. I get fundy but never switch... I decide to expand instead. Meanwhile X is preparing to take out the Zulu and he has taken my currency caravan so I'm pretty heated. I send my march HA to kill his HA, kill it but lose trying to take out the Zulu so I retreat. From there the game was smooth sailing and I was doing pretty good in tech(16 tech by 200bc) and making 35g per turn. I had 9 cities and two cities were near double dye.

    I decided to never attack X for the rest of the game and aim for a space victory. X felt he could come back with and even flipped my production city. I teched every tech in the game except industrialization because I told X I would leave it for him as we'll as LCOA. He tried to take two gp from the Zulu the whole game in which succeeded sometime down the road and he obliterated about 4 cities the Zulu made. Other than that he played catchup and never launched an attack as I had the offense and defense easily to defeat him. I was making 2322 science a turn, built Oxford, made a nuke and of course used my LW to secure the win with a space flight victory.

    Second game: Multi=Russians and X=Mongols

    I spot friendly from local map and pass up two barbs to settle next to Japs and take them out at 3300 bc. A barb tells me where SoC is at but I don't pick up because I don't think X would ever get to it in time for what I was planning. We meet but I decide not to attack him because he Mongols and I was doing pretty well irregardless for the drama. I spot English and take them out at 2300 bc with a HA. I got monarchy now and my second city was settled next to dye so I was doing it big in tech. Made a city out of London to settle next to dye and get irrigation with 5 cities. I switched to morachy earlier and got my gp which was a GS. I pick up SoC and it gives me two GA. (Second time I ever got that) I flip two of X barb cities and X quits.

    I played one vs Packrat but I didn't get the win the way I wanted. My Egyptians vs Packrat's English. I settle next to 3 desert, two trees and a fish. I got Hgb and got a friendly that gave me hbr. I get a horse out and take out barbs meanwhile meeting civs. I take out the French after getting my 100g and Packrat struggling to get his 100 cause he got blocked in by a barb. I got two veteran HA's out and making guap famo. I pick up a friendly that gives me currency for the free market. Another friendly then show me 7cog but before I can get to it, Packrat disappears.

    Packrats internet isn't on top of things so he won't be online playing games that mean something. I got such a excellent start Packrat conceded in giving me the victory. With all that I had going on it would be dang near impossible for him get but we all make mistakes.

    Got one in vs Mawpawk.

    I was the English and Mawpawk was English too. I settle next to. Dye and two trees but one plain. My first barb give 50g and I'm getting hbr in 2 turns. Get my 100g and form a HA to harass the Mongols. But when I get the Pawpawk is getting his HA together and it kills mine. Now meanwhile during all this I spot AoC plus 4 tiles away SoC. I wait to get my first gp and it is a great leader. I then get SoC and it gives me two GA'S which I use to convert the two caps he took and from there I thought it was over as Mawpawk stillnever got his 100g.

    I then start to build a barracks and head straight for Knights. Mawpawk is expanding a bit but I got the edge in offense since his HA died at my cap. Then I get knights and build a KA but when I do, he then converts the city. He now gots the barrack city but never really pester but that may have cost him the game. I brought the KA towards his other city and nver took it.

    Now it is just us two teching and such but from ther I started to put pressure and messing with him to slow down any expansion he wanted to do. End case my pressure succeed.

    that was a gd game and kinda weirdly balanced apart from yor better battles! still a gd match nonetheless, i always feel safer when i have a great leader
