What are You Playing in June/July?

My first monthly WAYP post since migration...

This month, I have been spending some quality time in Arkham City, what with the new DLC having dropped.

Also, thanks to a Steam sale, I discovered Dungeons of Dredmore last night. Holy cow! I've never really experienced a hardcore roguelike, but this is a nice modern take on the genre. Definitely will spend more time in this dungeon crawler.

Want to play Max Payne 3... One of these days.

    So what's everyone else playing?

Been playing Max Payne 3. It's not as good as it looks. Some parts are enjoyable, but as a whole it's somewhat disappointing.

Also, LIMBO. Been limping my way through. Have some big plans for Minecraft, so I'll probably work on those later.

    What month is it?

I've been playing Company of Heroes Tales of Valor, Rome: Total War, Civilization V, My cat (She's like a video game and an animal, got good ratings from IGN), Tetris, and Anything that catches my fancy.

    It's June, Pacha.

Also, I've moved this to Video Games and Tech, Rye. It's just the better place for it

I'm playing a buttload of Borderlands. My friend and I have dedicated us to finish it before the new game comes out. Towards the end of the month I will be playing a buttload of Spec Ops. In between there will be some Oblivion and Skyrim. Yeah. So...

My Minecraft plans are going nicely. I've got this cool two-story house. It's got two bedrooms, a bathroom (just 'cause), a basement and one big living area for the rest of my stuff. I did break through to a cave midway through building the basement. Not a huge problem (just plugged the hole with cobble) but that means my house is close to some hostile mobs. Could cause trouble one day.

Most definitely will be Max Payne 3 and if i'm in a good mood i'm thinking about picking up one or two dlc map packs when it comes out. Lollipop Chainsaw comes Tuesday, lol. Yea i know, Lollipop Chainsaw. It got zombies, a school girl in cheer-leader outfit, and a chainsaw. Kinda interesting so i'll give it a go.

Suda51 game sales would have most other studios closing in a heartbeat, Shadows of the damned sales were terrible but it was crazy and great fun, LC looks just as mad, the marketing campaign has been very funny

I think that's the point in LC. Absolutely fun to play game where almost anyone can pick it up and play right away. Leaving their worries behind for some hours of some zombies annihilation with a chainsaw. I think we all have a little fetish when it comes to cheer-leaders. From High School to Colleges to Sporting. You see it movies and TV like American Beauty, or watching the latest episode of Making the Dallas Cowboys Cheer Leaders squad.

So, to Lollipop Chainsaw; where every zombies you sliced and diced. Like High School, you hardly learned much but man; it sure is load of fun.

LIMBO. Why, LIMBO? Why are you doing this to me? Progress was good until about three days ago, and now I'm stuck in the same room. There has to be something I'm not seeing...

I've been play Garry's Mod, mostly Trouble in Terrorist town, but I dabble in Sandbox. Also, I'm planning on finally getting back to Skyrim, wrapping up Sniper Elite V2, Max Payne 3, and Arkham City, then i'm gonna try to find a good game on Steam.

Indie games are out to get me. LIMBO has my brain fried and Super Meat Boy is pushing my hand-eye coordination to its limit.

LIMBO: Stuck in a room with an elevator and a box. There's a crane with a rope that you can just barely not reach, and you need the box to reach it. The box can't be put there, though, because of a see-saw that pushes the box into a corner when you try to push it across. I need something heavy on the other half, or maybe there's another way around. I don't know either way.

Super Meat Boy: Omega, you are the WORST. LEVEL. EVER. /comicbookguy

Borrowed it from a friend Who is really into RPG's and as with most games like it I got about 20 mins in and switched it off, just find them very boring.

Hopping between a bunch of games that came out within the past year or so, since there isn't anything new lately. Halo: Reach is what I've been most surprised with; I'm having fun with the multiplayer again. Still, it probably won't last long. Other ones as of late for me include Rec Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, Arkham City, and Red Dead Redemption.

Man, I have to find a new game.

I miss Red Dead Redemption. I still own it, it still works, but it's on a console. I've been so spoiled by my PC that I can hardly play them anymore...

    I don't like RPG's, so no.

    I don't want to cheat.

EDIT: Did it anyway. I can't believe I had to go to Tobuscus for help with a puzzle... IT WAS SO OBVIOUS!

Started The Witcher 2 early June, but I didn't like it, so I quit about 10 hours in. Since then I've been enjoying Zack & Wiki whilst having my gaming time severely reduced due to the European Championship. Next game for me will probably be Catherine, althougt From Dust on sale is very tempting.

Now that I've gotten BF3 updated, the fatal errors that I was getting have gone away. This has allowed me to actually play the game, and it's been fun. Finished in the top 3 players on a 64-player server (despite being hilariously far under their ranks). People are a lot better about teamplay on the PC. There isn't much communication going on due to the bizarre friends-only voice chat, but if you die you're probably going to get revived, and if you run out of ammo, you'll actually probably get some. This might just be because there are more players, I don't know.

I heard it was an awful PC port, so unless you're getting it for console I'd do a little research before buying.

I'm still playing through Opposing Force for the first time. Decay was PS2-exclusive, right?

Huh... I'm a little wary of emulators and the like. If I were to buy the normal Half-Life on PS2, to your knowledge, would it contain Decay as well?

Since there's not a whole lot of games coming out this year that I plan on purchasing, I'm spending most of my gaming time playing catch up.

Right now I've just started Dead Space and I'm quite enjoying it so far. I've always said that Alien is a franchise that really deserves better games than it's gotten, and while this may not feature Face Huggers and Chest Bursters, it's clear that the team at Visceral Games spent some time watching Ridley Scott's first stab at the science fiction genre while making this game.

I just finished Borderlands. What? Interplanetary Ninja Assassin?

Oh well, new one comes out later this year. Maybe it will make more sense.

I'm still mourning over the loss of my massive pile of diamonds. I can't even look at Minecraft anymore.

Aside from that, I've been trying to finish Max Payne 3 (mainly because it was $60). Yeeahh... already bored with it. It just isn't the same as the originals. I almost feel like it would have been better without Euphoria, as it makes movement in cramped areas pretty awkward and that's a very bad thing to have in a series of games that prides itself on free-flowing movement and action (that's also indoors a lot of the time).

It also didn't feel too noir to me. I guess the (cut)scenes in his apartment and in New York were, sure, but the rest of it is all Max saying "I hate these rich people" in as many ways as he possibly can while outside under a sunny blue sky or while inside some exquisitely-designed luxury club full of smiling faces. It made him feel less like a man with a troubled life and more like a bitter asswipe. I felt that the setting took a lot away from the atmosphere that the game really should have had, and Rockstar clearly was more focused on making "memorable", scripted scenes of unabridged gore and violence than staying true to the series' roots.

I got sick of the "realistic" gore when a stray round hit Fabiana Branco square in the forehead, and the game decided to pause on a frame of her head kicking back, blood and brains everywhere, and text in the corner of the screen telling me that I'd failed. It just feels kind of psychotic, emphasizing a woman's death with that much detail. Why they felt the need to throw in all of those HD entry and exit wounds, all the squirting blood and exposed bone is a mystery to me. Can't think of any other games that have felt the need to go into that kind of detail. Maybe it's worse for me, playing the game on higher settings than most people, but I can't stand it.

TL;DR: Max's inner monologue should have focused more on himself, and I personally think that the series should and could have stayed in New York. There were also some technical changes that Rockstar could have made to make the game more playable, but they instead opted for visuals (no matter how hard to watch they may be at times). /spontaneous review

Got a free iPad game called Zombie Gunship last week and it's taking up far too much of my time

It's basically plays like the modern warfare spectre gunship mission but taking out zombies while trying to help civilians reach a bunker, very simple but so addictive

I've been playing some Battlefield: Heroes today. That's an okay game, been playing it for years. I'm thinking of buying Garry's Mod and trying to do some TF2 machinima, but I don't have any specific ideas in mind and it looks incredibly complicated. So, I may or may not do that. I dunno.

I'll probably go play TF2 or something now.

I've been playing some Team Fortress 2 (and playing the ARG related to said game). After Steam gets finished downloading the update, I'll be playing a lot of TF2's new play modes.

I was just there... took an hour to download the update when it usually takes just over a minute (it actually isn't much bigger than most updates) and the Steam servers are real screwy right now. I could hardly log in and the item servers are confused. Couldn't even change my loadout.

I made an attempt to play the new mode but the game immediately told me it couldn't find any servers and the first Attack/Defense server I got into was laggy as hell. You'd probably be better off waiting.

EDIT: Derp. Turns out my ISP was having problems. New map + new goggles = me laughing for an hour.
