Did Gamestop reveal the box art (or was it a mock-up)?

I almost hate bringing this up, considering how many times I've had to tell people to ignore Gamestop's fictional release dates. But I noticed something odd. For the first time, I saw a shot of BSI where it didn't look like a bland mock-up. It had the logo with Booker in the foreground, brandishing a large pistol, and Elizabeth just behind him to the right. Looked real nice. Since I didn't recall seeing that particular artwork anywhere else, I thought it might be legit.

It's part of a "hot games of E3" promotion, but the weirdness continues---they pulled the image from the online ad. I can't find it anywhere. They've replaced it with the bland placeholder. It's still in the print ad in stores. I couldn't find a shot online--maybe someone else has a copy?

I wouldn't be surprised if someone found the shot I'm talking about and informed me that it was a photoshop from six months ago or something. LOL

EDIT: Here we go. I went out and grabbed the print ad. Not the best photo, but...

Looks vaguely familiar, but I just don't know.

I've seen that, too. On the one hand, that could be a possibility, but on the other, some gaming magazines do have some exclusive art that has yet to appear on here, like there was one in a video game magazine (I think it was a Playstation or XBox magazine) that has Booker about to shoot at Songbird.

Nope, the one Japester is describing was similar to that pose, but it was more of a closeup, shaded, and it looked more like the original concept art that revealed Booker's face. If anything, you can still see it on one of those display boxes that Gamestop has (that is, if they didn't replace those with ones with just the title).

I hope someone can point to the original, because I just can't put my finger on it. The blimp in the background is what strikes me as most familiar. Not so much the two characters.

It's still odd that they put it on their site and then pulled this particular image.

The background with the blimp strikes me as familiar to, and I think you saw that here:

    http://irrationalgames.com/insider/a...om-ken-levine/

As for Booker and Elizabeth, I'm certain that I've never seen this cover before, with such a close up on Booker.Maybe this could be the cover after all....I would prefer with only the logo and the background, but this is nice too.

That's a definite possibility, vsharres. It's similar, but definitely a different image since the blimp is placed much higher on the cover.

It's hard to separate all the Booker/Liz images out there, since this sort of pose is very popular. I will say that if it's a placeholder made by anyone but Irrational, they did a stupendous job. This is the first one I've seen that strikes me as believable.

I'm waiting for someone with encyclopedic knowledge to step in and settle this. I wonder where felonious is?

It's very similar positioning to the "Wanted!" poster from Pax Prime last year... However the art and the posing is completely different. It would be interesting to see if it is the actual box art though.

I must note that if it is the box art, I'm thoroughly disliking the constant portrayal of Elizabeth as a damsel in distress when it was mentioned a lot early in development (I've really been keeping my nose clean of press releases, so if I'm out of date on this soz) that she wasn't weak and didn't need protecting all the time. But I'll keep my extended grumbles to myself, hold my mechanical horses and wait to play the game to make a full judgement on that. Box art is just box art, after all.

I think everyone wants that Saturday Evening Post mockup to be the cover, but it is just fan-art (incredibly awesome fan-art from an industry pro), so probably for legal reasons using it would be a little tricky. As to the image japester posted, I would say it's possible that the image is a mockup that Gamestop cooked up in it's marketing department, so they would have something new to get people's attention.

I agree with the concerns about Elizabeth's poses on the art we've seen, she does look a bit to damsel-in-distress-y, but at the same time I have no idea how you could show off Elizabeth's abilities without totally confusing someone who doesn't already know about what she can do.

LOL. It's not like Elizabeth is curled up at Booker's feet, Frazetta-style.

In this particular instance, she's merely standing behind Booker, looking slightly surprised. Which fits with her sheltered existence. If something is dangerous enough to warrant a gun aimed at it, it probably puzzles her at the very least (I doubt she was threatened all that often with Songbird around). If she were fainting or in total shock, I might see it. In the second following this image, it's easy to visualize her stepping around Booker and leveling the bad guy with her powers. She doesn't look nearly as concerned as Booker, after all.

I supposed you could show them always standing side-by-side, or put her in front, but it makes more sense to highlight the character that the player will be "driving".

Probably not the final box art as it's a bit early but perhaps it's going to be something along those lines. I looked back at Max Payne's box art and that was finalized and released 2 months before release. Wanted to echo Vsharres, the logo and background like the limited edition one from the first Bioshock would be great even if its just for the limited edition Bioshock Infinite.

That looks as if it is permanent, but i really couldn't tell you... did anyone notice that Booker has the same scar as Ezio (on his lip) from assassins creed?
    anyway, looks awesome to me!
edit: wait did you guys say that the blimp in the background looked familiar? this is probably why....

I was at my local GameStop today, and one of those novelty size game boxes caught my eyes, baring that same artwork: http://imgur.com/a/tPlGf Do we know if the artwork was official or not? I could guess it was their own remake, but initial search didn't find anything.

dude, it almost looks too official to not be real....

  15. A lot of gamestops pre-order cover art boxes are not the official cover art for the game. 80% of the time they're just something put together to help UP the pre-orders.

although that is correct, ive never seen one that looks this official, nor have i seen one that detailed either. usually they just take a picture thats already been released and stick it on the box.

It's probably unofficial - I mean, why would they create a high definition remake of it that only GameStop receives it? But I suppose it still looks pretty awesome. It is strange they don't use this art for the online store - I'd have liked a version without ugly phone camera effects on it.

There are some websites that you can download new cover art and those people put A LOT of effort and custom work into their downloadable cover art. Of course you pay for this fan made cover art, which is why they put a lot of work into them.

This is the one I have been seeing at stores and around the internet to serve as a pre-order box art image. Also, from what I was told, is the official art. But, to me looks like it would be an unfinished version of the official cover art. It looks like the city should be under the logo with the clouds in the background. Thats what I see when I look at the image below.

  19. also, after looking at the cover art from the OP. I would agree with you in the sense that it's concept art and was put on a Xbox 360 Cover Art Template. The finished cover wouldn't look like that. It would be cleaner.

i almost think that a plain looking cover might look better than one that has such a detailed Booker and Elizabeth on it. really, the coolest looking cover would be the picture of Booker and Elizabeth in front of the wanted posters. that would look good.

Whether it be legit or not, I actually like that rendition of the leaked? cover of the game. For one with his scars and bruises, I can easily picture Booker's past like he had it rough as a Pinkerton. On the contrary the first piece of art while being artsy and all still makes him more of an adventurer than anything. Just my two cents as it's been a while since I came here since the horrid transmigration ^^"

  22. I feel that would not flow with the two previous covers imo. I actually really like the one that I posted as it's not too much overkill on the cover and fits with the Bioshock 1 & 2 cover art, imo. But, everyone is always going to prefer what they like lol

but wait, didnt the first bioshock cover and the bioshock 2 cover both have a big daddy and a little sister on it? if anything, the second ones cover was extremely complex.

Yup to be honest as a reminder of past bioshock cover iterations, I wouldn't mind seeing a close up of an arm holding a gun while facing a glorious Handy Man (with mustaches of course!) ^^

Yes, but they were not on a wanted poster. They were both standing in Rapture. Which is why I stated that a "wanted poster" would not flow. It would give the feel of an old western shootout game. imo.

Bioshock 2's cover looks cleaner than the first one. The second one does have a nice metallic press throughout the slip cover, which I ALWAYS enjoy on the slip covers.

Well, Columbia does have sort of a western theme about it (the bowler hats, western vests, patriotic buildings) so the wanted posters are pretty accurate. a metallic slip cover would be very awesome for Bioshock: infinite. I just got the new Amazing SpiderMan game and it has a cool metallic slip cover. it really makes you almost want to display the game

  28. Yeah, it def. gives the slip cover art more depth and nice look. It relates well to the game.

This one would be much better, It would make one wonder "hmm, I wonder what this game is about, I must look at the back". I think this cover increases the chances of consumers picking it up than a picture of Booker and elizabeth and a big pistol pointed at your face, some people may say, "not another shooter".

That's why they'd need to show the Skyhook in one of his hand so they see this is not your average run of the mill fps.

this would make sense for a new game. But, when its a sequel, it's not going to matter. Because 98% chance the person buying the sequel has played the previous version of the game.

Mock-up. Based on facts true in my head.

If they dont know what it (skyhook) is (remember when you saw your first big daddy on the box).....

Would need to be an action shot of it in use

In all honesty, its most likely stock. I work at Gamestop, and we always just get random box art that is almost never the final product. We get the box art as it's released, and it was probably just a place-holder. I've seen about 4 different versions of Borderlands 2, Fifa 13, Dishonored, etc. While I have no idea where they come from, they're probably just created by corporate or approved by the developer/publisher. Also, hi everyone! I've been gone for awhile, but now I'm back!

Found out that tomorrow, IG will be revealing the official box art for the game. Already, they posted 3 teaser images on their Facebook page:

From the looks of it, it seems like it'll be something similar, but different, from the Gamestop cover above.

Nice! I've seen a few new images that would make fine covers. Looking forward to seeing what they ultimately went with.
