It seems a safe bet that we're going to be able to mod in extra religions (would seem a bit of an own goal on Firaxis's part if we couldn't), so... what religions do people plan to add in, or want to see added in?

Would only seem logical to include the Rastafari movement, what with Haile Selassie being in the game too. And possibly the associated, ahem, resources (plantations).
I'll be adding religions to a fantasy mod, and I don't want them to be "blank slate" as in vanilla. So the first thing I'll be looking for when I get the expansion is whether or how well we can control beliefs by xml/lua (e.g., giving free beliefs or restricting beliefs by religion). I suppose others will want to do this with non-fantasy (historical) religions as well.
From what I understand, tying beliefs to religions would be contrary to the design philosophy... but I suppose some people will disagree with the whole design philosophy.
Edit: Obviously for a fantasy mod, a lot would change, so a different design philosophy makes sense. For the game as designed, though, it seems that the possibility of founding Buddhism as a bloodthirsty warrior religion is entirely intentional.
Yeah, I have no disagreement with Civ5 design philosophy. In fact, I think it is very sound. However, I have a different design philosophy for my mod.
"This mod adds a new religion, Pastafarianism, to the game. Pastafarians are believers in the Flying Spaghetti Monster."
Oh dear!
