Part of me wants sales to slump although that will only put the final nail in the DS coffin, but having played the demo & watched some more gameplay footage as a huge fan of 1 & 2 I think the series is dead now anyway

DS3 is fine on its own and as a co-op game. I'm doing solo my first time around and its a painful one. My second will be co-op and I have a feeling it was always meant for that. I don't think this game is bad; it's just not a "dead space" game. I view it as a new way of telling the rest of Isaac’s story. There are some good changes, but I hate the Weapons Crafting. I'm not buying anything, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised as to why my weapons will suck the whole game. You don't need to buy the bots, I found some and they’re fine and adorable.

Can't say much about the story yet. I think they weren’t sure how to make a game for dead space fans and new people. There’s a lot of stuff happening and it’s feels discombobulated. It’s one of those games where you want to know what happens, even if you have to go through a bunch of crap.

Sales down approx 26% on DS2

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...percent-on-DS2

Aliens CM is a steaming pile of **** from what I've been reading so will probably pick this up now, got quite a lot to trade in and there's nothing good on the horizon until the new Bioshock.

edit: picked it up yesterday and played through the first few chapters and it's ok but a shadow of its former self

plays as i thought it would, a rather generic TPS that has traded in scares and atoms for movie like production (which I normally enjoy) but instead of being slow, lumbering and very tense it just feels like you're plodding through the world, there are some nice touches but you can tell it has been steered in another direction, and if the initial sales are anything to go by that was misguided.

I personally enjoyed this game, but I didn't feel it was as good as the second game or really the first as well. It's not a bad game by any means, but I think they made a major mistake by not having the usual hallucinations/marker plain screwing around with Isaac moments of the first two games. Ironically this is something that coop improves, because in some situations in coop and particuarly the coop specific missions Carver sees some really random stuff. Watching your coop friend doing random things to stuff you can't see (or hear) yourself is actually pretty unnerving to be honest.

It's pretty much got to the point where Dead Space does need to go somewhere else, like a new protagonist, to really move forward now. I am unsure if I will be buying the first DLC that they are releasing or not right now. I think once I am done playing coop I might be Dead Space'd out for a while.

    1, then 2, then 3

you can get 1+2 cheap, plus kmart has lowered DS3 to 40 bucks now.

    Also don't forget Peng!

    peegas,
DS1 is still generally regarded as the best of the trilogy, certainly the most pure in terms of Survival Horror. For me, it's one of the must play games of this generation.
DS2 is a solid sequel, in some ways a step forward with more varied gameplay and bigger set pieces but in other ways a couple of steps back ie some cheap deaths and frustation that wasn't in the first game plus it lost some of the tension and atmosphere of the first game due to faster pacing and more action packed gameplay.
DS3 is the most divisive of the three as you can see from the previous comments on this thread! One things for sure it's certainly the one thats the most Action and the least Survival Horror in style.

Finally, as Durandal said you can get DS1 and DS2 cheap now so if you're planning on buying all 3 i'd say buy them first and by the time you've finished them DS3 will probably have come down in price.

Definitely start with DS1 which is by far the best in the series, got it cheap on PC last year and still play it often, turn lights off and sound up.

DS2 is also very good, 3 is ok but it's more action than survival horror and suffers from things being fixed that weren't broken in the first place.

I actually played through Dead Space 1 very recently and it's fantastic to see how well that game holds up even in the light of DS2/DS3. It still looks visually great, has a pretty cool storyline and is really creepy. Definitely no need to skip any game. If possible, I recommend playing Dead Space, Dead Space Extraction (takes place between Dead Space and Dead Space 2), Dead Space Ignition (though might want to look up a couple of videos of this, but it does unlock some stuff in Dead Space 2), Dead Space 2 and then Dead Space 3. I personally think these are all quality games, but the first and second main game (DS and DS2) are by far the best IMO.

Not normally one for EA bashing but this sums up the mess they made of DS3

Sad way for a superb series to end.

Edit, never mind story was false, game was still poor

Awakened DLC (heard it's good) not posting any reviews cuz of spoilage.

I'm going to start playing it on Friday, I'll report back.

Awakened DLC was good. Should have been in main game as reviews are saying. Also the ending of the DLC would have been a better ending than the main Dead Space 3 story. More to come apparently.

I have to say that the DLC was pretty good overall and I liked how they bought back Isaac going nuts. There are some really great moments in there and I wish the whole game had been designed like it.

Is it just me or was Issac more interesting in the first game when he didn't speak at all?

No I disagree with that. I think that giving him a personality in the second game was the best decision they could have made. I thought he became a much better character in 2 than he was in the first game.

It's all down to personal opinion and I guess giving him a voice in the second game was a logical progression (and not the disaster it could have been) but I still fell that the fact that Issac was mute and a bit of an enigma in DS1 added to the mystery and suspense and seemed to make the terror more personal for the player. It just seemed right for that particular game and was a refreshing change in an era of wise cracking game heros.

I agree, though it was a logical progression to flesh out the character the first game is far more atmospheric & creepy with him mute, but as the series has gone on the things that made the first game so good have been stripped out, a trend that is all too common
