Will Bioshock Infinite work with Realtek motherboard sound?

The Realtek sound issues with Bioshock 2 were never fixed.

I want to be excited for Bioshock Infinite, but if it's based on the same engine, I can't, because the sound will probably be broken on my system.

This thread is your opportunity to reassure me.

Dude they haven't even announced minimum or recommended specs yet, so I wouldn't hold your breath on this one.

I have to agree, there will be some time before all the technical details are sorted out.

I feel your pain, Zombra. I had a devil of a time getting BS2's sounds to work properly, even after purchasing two different sound boards. Tech support stuck with me, but we just couldn't lick it.

If it's any consolation, BioShock (which was made by Irrational) worked fine with my vanilla Realtek. Since BS2 was made by 2K Marin, using a modified version of the engine used in the first game, there is no reason to suspect this will be a problem that carries forward. Plus, we have yet another new engine this time around (Unreal 3), so it's like starting with a clean slate.

Cool! That's really all I needed to hear. Now I can be excited again, thanks

Glad to be of service. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I couldn't get the basic sound to work, much less the enhanced stuff in BS2.

It simply can't be stressed enough that any extrapolation about BSI should start with BioShock. Nothing against BS2 or the great folks at 2K Marin (and I mean that, they truly are cool folks), but you might as well be talking about an entirely different franchise. Technically and artistically, it was a different beast. Whatever Irrational has planned for BSI, it starts where BioShock left off...
