Joystiq: Troy Baker is 'new' Nolan North

It's nice to see him getting the recognition. He's tougher to pick out than a Nolan North or a John DiMaggio, so I wasn't aware of just how many characters he'd voice prior to his involvement with BSI.

I like it that he confirms Stephen Russel was the first voice actor for Booker DeWitt. A lot of people thought Russel was the VA for Booker in the first gameplay trailer.

Thanks for posting this Japester, since Infinite is even gonna miss the E3 2012, the slightest article is almost as precious as a waterdrop in a desert.

As the old-school Thief fan, I got a big kick out of hearing Stephen Russell in the debut trailer. I definitely think Troy Baker is the voice of Booker hands down, but it was nice to hear a (literal) shout-out to the Looking Glass days, at least for a little bit.

It's great that Troy Baker is getting some recognition for the awesome work he does, but I'm a little off put by the theme of the article. Saying that Troy Baker is the "new" Nolan North implies that Nolan North has been shuffled off somewhere obscure, which is definitely untrue. I think Troy straight out says it in the article that that sort of thinking isn't really reflective of what's going on.

Good article on Troy Baker, got to meet him and chat for a bit at last year's NYCC. Really cool guy with a sense of humor who really plays games. Talked about his voices he did in Darksiders which I actually had just played, he had done some pretty good demonic voices and I told him looking forward to hearing him as Two Face. He joked pretty much same voice and then we talked about Heavy Rain and the atrocious "Jason" call. Extra cool points for not being just an actor who knows nothing about the medium he is working in.

9ice--While I hear what you're saying, I read quite a few joystiq (and gaming) articles, and read the comments, and I don't think that much thought is typically being put into either side. If they keep the spelling errors under 3 per article, joystiq is having a good day. LOL. People recognize Nolan as the "go to guy" who's in everything. The article is just using that recognizable hook to show that Troy is doing the same thing. If the article had simply talked about how much work Troy was getting, I guarantee every comment would have been a version of, "Yeah, like NOLAN NORTH! Duh!"

felonious--Speaking of NYCC, I had a funny little moment involving Troy that directly relates to this article. At one point, I was standing behind the autograph table, just generally keeping an eye on things (I got to watch everyone's purses at one point!). Anyway, the table next to us wasn't getting much traffic, so I started chatting with them. They were two voice actors from Pokemon. Very nice folks. A fellow with them was their sound engineer (I think--memory's a little fuzzy). Anyway, he asked me who I was with, so I told him about Ken, Courtnee, and Troy. And he says, "Who?!" I repeat the names, and he says, "Troy Baker?" Now keep in mind, Troy is about two feet away from us. The guy squeezes around me, claps Troy on the shoulder, and shouts a big, "HELLO!" Turns out they were old buddies from some former project. Thereby demonstrating that it truly is a small world...and Troy has apparently worked with most of it.

Great article, and great that most of you guys got to meet him. I was this close to meeting him and Tara Strong months ago in California, where I would have had my copy of Arkham City signed by them (since I had no other merch of BioShock Infinite at all, and B:AC was at least something both of them worked on). I was about to start my car, when I didn't hear the engine at all. Turns out the starter was close to worn out, that it didn't work until around 4:40 in the afternoon, which by then, I already missed the event. Needless to say, Baker would have been the 2nd voice actor of a BioShock-related game I met ( Yuri Lowenthal was the first I met last year, which he signed my copy of BS2, and told me that the Crawler originally was suppose to sound Appalachian, instead of just sounding insane).
