cannot load save game (steam, windows 7)

basically whenever I click the load game button it gives me an error that says
    "Runtime Error!

    Program: ...common/sid meier's civilization V/civilizationV_DX11.EXE
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual war. Please contact the application's support team for more information"
then once I press OK I get the generic civilization V has stopped working thing. I have tried verifying the game cache it says one file has not been found and it will reacquire but that doesn't work. I also tried rebooting, re-installing my graphic drivers as I found a thread that said you should do that, I also found a thread that told you to go into the config file and make sure that it was set to save/load from the right place it was, and of course the old standby turning it off and on again.

Can you disable the "Steam in game community" and see if it helps?

Does this happen with one specific save or with all saves?

Like a save from turn 2 and a save from turn 250?

Donald, from his post, it happens when he clicks the load button, before any saves are accessible.

OP, can you disable (or enable) cloud saves and see if that helps?

ok I did a full uninstall reinstall and it still doesn't work, and quantum when I go to properties to disable cloud saves the option to disable it is faded out and I can't change it.

Maybe try posting your dxdiag to see if there is a component issue. Others have had an issue with underpowered systems that allow them to start and save a game but can't load later. Might also be interesting to see if turning your AV off makes a difference.

Can you post a Hijack This log, so we can see what software might be loading an overlay on your machine

I am sorry I did some googling around and cannot for the life of me figure out a Hijack This log is, there seems to be like multiple versions and stuff. And here is my Dxdiag, I am not sure how I should hide this as spoiler tags here don't compress the text so I guess I will just leave it long.

Hijack this, is a program, that will generate a logfile, showing running processes, and things set to run on startup on your PC.

A simple google search should bring you its location.

Whatever file you DID post, doesnt have any relevant information for us

The file above, was no part of a dxdiag, that is remotely helpful, i dont even recognize where it is located

For the DXDIAG, can you run it again, and post the top sections please

I'm having the same problem but receive an error whenever I try to create a new thread on this forum. (URL = http://forums.2kgames.com/newthread....stthread&f=86; error = "The requested URL was not found on this server.").

Pepperyfish, I've been able to work around this problem by switching Steam into offline mode--not just turning off the Steam Community functions. Obviously taking Steam offline has some important downsides, but at least it lets me play until there's a fix.

A lot of people have reported this problem here and at other forums, and I've compiled a list of all their suggested solutions... none of which worked for me. I've posted them in a Stack Exchange Gaming post in case some of them work for others.

I was able to work around this problem by running Steam in offline mode (Steam > Go Offline). That's a good work-around unless:

    • You play other Steam games that need to be online
    • You want to synchronize saved games between two or more computers
    • You want to be awarded Achievements

I was able to resolve the issue permanently by uninstalling both Civilization and Steam then reinstalling them. I'm surprised this fixed the problem since the crash happened immediately with a brand new Steam and Civilization installation on a brand new computer. But it did fix the problem.

Before uninstalling/reinstalling I tried a large list of other changes, including a complete uninstall and reinstall of my video card drivers. Maybe the fix was really because of some combination of those other changes plus the Steam/Civ reinstall.

It was - The cause of the crash is an overlay, that is conflicting.

You very likely unistalled, whatever was supplying that overlay
