Civilization V Crashes when playing through an HDMI
Hey all, first post.
I know the title is kinda weird, but the whole situation is pretty confusing to me as well.
Civilization V works great on my laptop. I can play on Ultra, haven't run into any graphics problems or anything else that makes me believe there is something wrong with my laptop.
However, I often like to hook my laptop up to my Samsung HDTV to take over the world/shoot people on a big screen, and I've never had a problem until now. If I try to plug my laptop in mid-game, Civilization just crashes on the spot. And if I already have my laptop hooked up to my tv and I go into Steam and select "play Civilization V" it goes into a black screen, waits a few seconds, and then comes up with a "Civilization V has stopped working" notification.
At first I thought it was an issue with my tv, so I tried hooking it up to one of my friends computer monitors, and it did the same thing.
I looked through the common problems section of this forum and I couldn't find anything to help.
Obviously, this isn't a huge deal, and I still love the game, but it would be great if I could get some help with this.

This is an issue with the notebook in question - Can you post a DXDIAG, and ill see if i know of any "Known" issues on it
-
Awesome, thanks so much for the reply! I am trying to upload my dxdiag, but I am not seeing an "attach folder" icon.
And if I try to paste the entire dxdiag here, the webpage crashes. Clearly, technology has not been on my side lately
-
Split it into multiple smaller sections if you need to

SIDE NOTE:
I found the issue. Either my internet browser, this forum, or my computer is trying to link all of my directories as websites. So like with D:blahblahblah it is trying to make that into a website, which is why it keeps putting me on a page that says 404 not found.
That's my guess anyways.
-
I believe that machine has a graphics platform codenamed Optimus - this platform is very unstable, and does unpredictable things.
Can you try disabling the intro video before launching Civ5 with HDMI hooked up, and see if the issue persists
-
That did it! Thank you so much, you were a huge help.
