Rules:
Best of 5
Challenger picks a tier(1st 2 games come from this tier) and puts one of his King titles on the line
Apex King picks a tier(last 3 games come from this tier)
The 5th game is a footsoldiers match(so all the king titles are covered)
You can only challenge for this title once a day(per king)(in other words if you lose it you have to wait a day to challenge)

Well the Apex King is the King of Kings. In the wild the apex predator has no natural predators, only prey to hunt. I think thats a fitting title for the King of Kings.

Here are the rules as mawpawk and I decided when we played the first one. It is a best of 5. We wanted it to cover a wide array of civs since this is supposed to be the most prestigous King title but we knew if each game was from a different tier it would turn into mirror matches. Ex(Russia from Bottom, Germ from middle, and America from top would almost always be picked). So we decided this.

You can only challenge for this title if you are a current King, as the Apex King is the King of Kings.

Well Im the first Apex King.

Defeated maw 3-0.

First my French walked all over his Russians....he took tripoli late but I had taken mongols early and then 5 pop greece mid game. I had two GA's so I left my cities with only one pikeman in each...except my cap of course....and flipped his LA and HA after they took 2 respective cities...he dropped a few turns later with my 2 fundy KA's and HA outside his cap

Second my Russia take his mongols. I find SoC early which decided the game. Spain was south of me so I was to use the GS on HBR and the GE for gold but I realized i could get 100g and HBR via tech in 2 turns so I saved the GS. Instead of going for spain I came at him once I started seeing barbs turn to mongol cities.

Third my Indians play his English. Long story short he settled right where I had walked away from and I already had money so my HA took his cap quick.

GG's mawpawk.....Grizz is the first Apex King.....you got that.....the Grizzley Bear is the Apex Predator at the moment....bring the challenges.....(or is it the Tiger.....both are Apex predators in their respective environments)

Multi challenged me to the title.......I beat him down and am still the Apex King.......Im at the top of the food chain......6-0 as the top predator so far....multi put his hated title up on the line to challenge....but since I swept him and the games were all so quick Ive decided to allow him to keep the title and be one of my Kings.....to demote Multi to a simple steward of the throne just wasnt in the cards tonight....Although Ill still take the addition of 2 to my overall talley Jack since I earned it

Hey, I'm cool with the 2 points on the leaderboard (helps differentiate this title as a little more special). Was never sure about the whole gaining an extra king title without actually playing it out? But maybe there should be consequences for having the gall to challenge for the Apex - You put a title on the line, if you lose, that title becomes Vacant?

I was against it at first, mawpaw and Itz liked the idea, before we started last night I brought it up and Packrat and Multi both liked the idea. I did too being the current king of course. If I had earned it I would have taken it probably per the agreement but since I swept him in about 20 turns combined over 3 games I didnt feel as though I earned taking his king title so I called it like that. Multi is still under the impression he lost it

New Apex King am I!

First Game: Multi= Romans and Blades= Germans
He takes out Arabs, nuff said...

Second game: Multi= Indians and Blades= Indians
He takes out some civ and I walk around picking up 25g. I settle not far from him next to a barb but with no sea. I attack barb and get galley to galley drop his captured capital. He makes effort to try and regain it but it fails and I take his cap.

Third game: Multi= American and Blades= Chinese
He walks around till he settles for Arabs to take his capital.

4th game: Multi= Zulu and Blades=America
Truly a fun game and one that shows that if America goes to 5 tech... It is possible to still beat them, enough resources. I settler walk to pick up friendly. I see three barbs by 3800 bc with 2 warriors out. I take one barb to get Alphabet,, another for a spy and another for a spy. I then take out Kyoto. I meet blades with his militia wandering in my area. He then takes out egyptians(Oracle) so I knew I was in for trouble. Thebes was like at a choke point kinda to the rest of the land. Blades gets his 100g but I don't. I have a vet HA and 2 vet WA's. I get a boat from another barb for a galley and put the force on the boat. I swing past Egypt to his 100g city convienyly located between his cap and Thebes. I take it out while then defending a Infil HA from blades. From

there things was set up when I got SoC. It gave me a GS and a pop guy. I GS math and I pop 2 cities even without my 100g since I now spot AoC. I get irrigation and doing good in culture and tech but can't flip Thebes when I get my next gp due to walls being around it... Let me had got Thebes and there'd been no match. Blades is doing bad with two two pop caps working on science. He eventually gets to republic but he had to strategize much differently due to me having catupults and ability to overun. I got 2 vet CA's but both on opposite ends of Blades territory. I get my galleon and about to start a relentless attack when my man Blades gets a GB from the Chinese. He gb'd GW and I felt in trouble but I had enough science to get engineering within 5 or 6 turns but that gives any American at 5 tech and republic to do their thing. Long story short there were battles of CA'S but I'm stronger with attacks and had a bit of battle luck... I take the Apex King title.

Thats against the rules the apex king title can only be challenged for once a day...you cant challenge right back for it....since it happened already i say go with it, but fo future reference that is not allowed. Mawpawk actually helped me come up with this rule so he must have just been feeling nice. Anyways well done multi

I put my lower middle tier on the line

i quickly went 2-0 under my choice but he turned it around making it 2-2 under his top tier choice but I won the foot soldiers taking out spain for nav in the button race. he took the cap but i got the tech and it a battle with no horses galleons rule. i took back madrid and he conceded GGs

Good job man, I really wanted to keep this and take your title, a great way to earn some titles when winning a defense. I thought I could come back from a 2-0 deficit and I figured that since I haven't lost with my Americans in since the civ league against Deni3d that I'd pull through, perhaps I should have kept my Zulu for the footsoldiers... they should rule that against any civ.

I'm still not entirely clear how this should be working. Ok, multi challenged twice in one day, allowed for now as Mawpawk agreed to it, but strictly speaking, Multi wasn't even a king for the second challenge when he won it back. He only has 1 title at the moment - should that have been awarded to mawpwak?

For now, I've recorded each win as 2 points and nothing more.

I had the King of Hated title to put on the line to face back for the Apex. It is only awarded to the King of Apex if you lose trying to challenge for the Apex. I nver lost challenging except to Blades but he was a gracious king and let me do it. When I get the title again I will be gracious to the challenger if I successfully defend only once or case by case scenario.

Ahh...OK, so did you get one of Mawpawks titles

Multi took the apex title from mawpawk. The way it works whoever wins the competition gets a title. If the challenger wins he gets the apex title. If you defend the title you get the title the challenger puts up and obviously keep the apex title

Righto, I get it now. Only the defender of the Apex gets the extra title. Apex holder does not have to put an extra title on the line as they are not the one challenging.

I agree but I don't... The king of apex takes everything and it is a honor to face the king of kings so I now I think about it... King of Apex should take the title put up to face him/her. Oh and Blades I like how you keeping up with the winners of this title.

im ready, i would like 2 say that the beating i gave denied felt good , also during our german mirror match i teched iron working with only 1 elite army and lost it but managed 2 shine thru as the peoples champ and pull the win after he had taken all a.is out, 1 day the student maybe able 2 teach... but not 2day

his china beat my USA. he got CoL from a hut. I didn't take enough risks vs such a godly start and he killed my units when i turned up..

his mongols killed my french - he got tripoli.. he had acess to the other ai and it saved his bacon. I also messed up loosing my KT taking his city for religion - should have sacrificed a warrior or something instead

his aztec killed my spanish by being better on the button race when our HA met. nothing I could do besides getting faster thumbs

in the first two mentioned games there was probably an option to skip in steal a tech then retreat and try to win. probably would still have lost the usa game - but it might have been my best chance. might have won the french one.

anyway good games. not great map position in all three but enoguh to get a decent start that I thought would be ok each time heh

My americans with KT take out spain for nav and flip london from pawks chinese for the win.

My Russians (having, I think, an early advantage) get into a tech race with his Mongols and lose. Badly.

My aztecs with very little gold lose to his spanish.

My indians win by the skin of their teeth in a very battle intense game against his Germans. Great game this one. Defended like my life depended on it.

Pawk retains this and takes the bottom tier title in a spectacularly uneventful decider.

His Japanese with gold galley drop my Greeks in about 9 turns. I knew he was close with a galley, just nothing I could really do about it. Well played masta pawk.

Probably a fair result considering that India/Germany game denied you a chance to kill my galleon by auto moving the fleet. But that really was the best tactical workout I've had in ages defending wave after wave of legion assaults - 3 hammers per tree and 7 cities, damn that was tough.
