Extending the turn limit

I've been playing the vanilla Civ V for a couple of weeks now. Try as I might, I cannot complete the spaceship before 2050 AD.

I've just looked in config.ini and found the maxturns variable is set to 0 for unlimited turns. However my games still end in 2050.

Previous Civ games (at least 1, 2, and 3) have enabled you to extend the turn limit to 2100 or further.

Can this be done, or fixed?
