error joining multiplayer session

Trying to play a private internet multiplayer game with my friend. When either of us attempt to join or accept the invite of the other's hosted game, we get the message "error joining multiplayer session".

We read about others having the same problems, and have tried all of the suggestions that have been made (ICS, firewalls, etc.). But still can not get it to work.

Does anyone have any idea why this isn't working? I can't believe that this could be so impossibly difficult!

Well I haven't always had this problem. It probably arose from however Steam fixed the problem that came from their May 15th update. That's just a guess, though.

I also have this problem, and it just started today.
My friend and I have been playing this whole week and today suddenly it doesn't work anymore, we get the error joining multiplayer session message.

any fixes?

Yeah, I've been playing a bunch of multiplayer games with my roommate and some other friends this week after they bought the game last weekend when it was on sale, and all of a sudden today I'm getting this error message whenever I try to join a game, and they get it when they try to join my games. Hopefully this will be fixed soon!
