New tournament suggestion hit or ☺☺☺☺?

Thoughts on a "real" strategic" tournamet.
Just got a bright idea(or mybe bad one..). A 8-10 person tournament where u can choose to play whatever civ u want to.
All players play each other twice.

The twist here is that Top tier Zulu, America and China gives 1 point for a win. Middle tier gives 2 points for win, lower middle tier 3 points and bottom 4 points.

Who will dare to play bottom civs and who will safe it in with America? Discussion about the point of course.

Will it be a hit or ☺☺☺☺? opinions?

lay it down or a possible tournament for the future?

I like idea but shouldn't there be a tier between top one and middle 1? Commonly referred to as the "upper tier" which includes aztecs, arabs, and spanish?

That is correct. Mybe America and China 1 point, Zulu 1,5. Arab, Spain, Aztec 2 points and so on. The points has to be discussed to make it fair. Mybe France and Mongol 5 points?

Just throwing out a ball here.

What about wild card egypt? How would u decide how many points they're worth? Just base it on what wonder they get?

I like the idea. Maybe you put Egypt up there with Spain to make it more of a gamble.

You could even subtract 1 point for losing with China USA Zulu.

the only prob i see is its still a big chance what you are playing against. Its sweet that Russia and france get 5 points for a win, but thats irrelevant if they are facing America. Besides what if France meets France? It wouldnt be worth anything beaten the same poor civ with a poor civ right?

It seems the tourney would to much be in favor of the lucky ppl who get the right match ups.

I do like this idea and will be very much a fun one if it is modified some more as someone could simply go America the whole time regardless for safe measure. I think that throughout the tourney that using the power of the top tier can be used only a few times or on a reward basis for a sweep of a opponent and when there is a bottom vs bottom that those points equate to only 1 point as it is not like they defeated someone of high caliber.

I think everyone would just pick France every game. Espcially if there was a "gentlemens" agreement between the players.... which happens all the time in tournaments now.

Only give bonus points for beating an upper tier. Create 4 tiers.

Tier 1 only gets 1 point per win. Tier 2 gets 2 points for beating tier 1, otherwise it's 1 point. Tier 3 gets 3 points vs. tier 1, 2 points vs. tier 2, and on and on...

i like the idea of each civ having an assigned point value. augment that with each opponent having a multiplier to come up with the point toal for the game. france has a base value of 4. if they beat america its 4 x 2.0, if they beat greeks its 4 x 1.25 or whatever. with something like this proposed tourney we would have to play it to find out if it works or not. i am not a fan of gentlemans agreements. for something like this they should be excluded to get maximum strategic value.

Not sure if this is where I should post this, but here is an idea that I thought of a while ago.

Disclaimer: I am unable to particpate in tourneys (time), and have never tested it out against somebody.

    King of culture.

Objective is simple - win a cultural victory.

Most important rule is that you can not do anything that results in declaration of war against your opponent.
Note that spy activities are not war-triggering.

You can declare war against the AI.

For now, Rome would have to banned from this tourney. Don't know about USA or China.

What if you guys do a preliminary matchup of 8-16 players, 5-6 games each and based on the records each player is seeding 1-8 for ex. then split the players into two different divisions.

Two Best records are 1 seeds.
Two 2nd best are 2 seeds and so on and so forth.

Winner of their divisions go head to head. I dont know if you guys have tried that yet but it might be fun. Of course there would be restrictions on what civs could be used.

Winner is crowned best overall civ rev player.

    Many good suggestions here.

    What I think will work:

    4 tiers.
Americ, China and Zulu: 1 point for win. If they loose to other tier than top= minus 1 point
Spain, Arab,Aztec: 2 point if win against top tier. 1 point win over rest of civs
Egypt,Greeze,England, germany,Rome,India, japan: 1 point same tier and bottom tier, 2 points 2. tier and 3 points 1. tier
Mongol,Russia,France: 4 points win against top tier - 3 points 2.tier-2 points 3.tier and 1 point same tier.

    Looks fair to me.

Sounds good for a future tournament? will be many interesting civ choices her and a lot of fun I think.

Why only 4 tiers? Why group middle and lower middle tiers together? For simplicity's sake? Makes sense i guess but if u do that no one will probably want to use the lower middle civs (except tcseow'll probably still use egypt, i guess) since they get no more points from winning than the superior middle civs you've grouped them with. Unless i'm missing something.
