Game freezing

Greetings all. I am having issues with the game freezing at the same point every time. I have the game through steam and am running in Vista compatibility mode. My specs are:

Win 7 64 bit
Phenom II x4
HD 4850

The game will load fine, but when I get to the part where you first pick up the wrench and have to smash the rubble out of the way it freezes. My drivers are up to date and the game plays beautifully until I try smashing the rubble. Once I do that it freezes and I have to reset my computer.

I have restarted the game multiple times hoping to get past it, but to no avail.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE

I uninstalled the game and re-installed it to see if there was a problem with the original install. I am still getting the same freezing issue at the same place after re-installation.

I had rare and occasional PC freezing problems in BioShock 1 and 2.
Lowering the screen resolution, in the game options, totally solved this problem for me.

I played with the resolution & other graphics settings to no avail. However, it is running now. The only change I have made is that I am not using my 360 controller. It is working with my PS3 controller using MotionJoy though...
