    Which Civilization game is best?

I'm considering purchasing a laptop computer. If i do, i will be getting at least one of the pc civ games. Which one do y'all recommend? Which one is most similar to civ rev and/or easiest to play? Which one has best mp mode?

Civ 2 was really great, but I disagree with Scottie. Civ IV with both expansions was the best in my opinion and/or the one I've most played.

Civ V is good too and there'll be an expansion coming in june (19 or something). I've played far less of the V than any other civ.

There is none like civ rev, the easiest would be the 1st one and maybe the 5th.

I'll guess for the mp is the 5th all the way because most player have gone to it eventually but I'm sure there is still a lot of mp activities on the 4th, because lots of hardcore fan didn't like the 5th, because it wasn't enough like civ IV.

I've decided to go with "Civ 4 the complete edition". Just bought it brand new on ebay for like $12. Seemed like a great deal. Now i just have to start shopping for a good laptop computer to play it on. I could play on my PC but something's wrong with volume.

I was mostly answering the 2nd to last question. anything past civ 2 is more complicated than civ rev i think.

There is a 75% sale on Civ V. A big bargain for the interested. They put this price to sale there expansion better!

12$ for this game is a really good deal. I didn't thought I've played much, but 306 hours in the bank...

You can even try it for free for the week-end.

As is typical, as everyone so far has mentioned 2 & 4, I saw a copy of Civ III in a charity shop the other day. What's it like?

I'm excited to buy it when I have my new computer. I haven't owned a computer in about 7 years, so I haven't yet had a chance to play any PC games. But this fall I'm looking forward to Civ V, even though it seems that players are disappointed with it. And I hope the Civ V forum players will respond to noobie questions as well as they have here in the Civ Rev forum.

Does anyone who's played the PC versions believe that their skills carried over to Civ Rev? Or are the other games so different that those skills don't really translate?

    For me no.
I used to play those games(civ 2 & 3) for fun. In civ 2 you build your roads with your settler for free , so I did that and built lots of bulidings lol. I used to like playing the long game.
I think Mote used to play Civ 4 online if I can remember him saying that a few years ago, maybe Civ 4 would be closer to Civ Rev in online gameplay im just guessing.

If it's at a good price buy it. Civ 3 is okay the graphics are alot better than Civ 2, but I liked the gameplay better in Civ 2.

Ahhhhhh..... Thanks for the info. I was hoping when I start up Civ V this fall that it would help if and when Civ Rev 2 ever comes out, but maybe it would just teach me bad habits! haha! But then again, it really does seem like playing any strat game would be good practise for the brain.

There is more agressive player in the Civ V part of the forum, still, there is lots of friendly one that are always helping other people. There is some detailed guide to help as well. Mad is a big contributor there as he was here one day.

There is always lots of disapointment when a new sequel is launched. It's normal as there is big expectations. There is more people posting to complaint then there is posting good thing about the game because the last group are playing the game. The expansion will bring more contents to the game.

I think yes in fact. I was killing the game on deity after 1 or 2 days of playing. I was far from the optimal strategy that have come up after a few years of playing, but I knew that expansion and science were a good way to beat the AI. Aggressivity is better against human than against ai...

I was legendary at civ II. I wasnt really on line but I was probably the fastest in the world at the standard WWII scenario with all the civs (especially the neutrals - go the neutrals!), and pretty competitive (but not quite the fastest) at OCC. I was decent at multiplayer, but im sure the top players would have beaten me.
At Civ I I was also pretty good. after that i didnt get so much into them.

That's great to hear. I can't believe you were killing deity so quickly!! Though I do remember players saying that a few years ago. I was stunned at the time because it took me at least a couple of months to really become comfortable at the level. Even the earlier levels were challenging for me. But now I can understand how some of you guys were so good so quickly: partly, of course, due to smarts; and partly because of your previous experience. Otherwise someone would have to be a GENIUS to beat deity within just two days!!

Looking forward to this fall when I can finally play Civ 5. Even if there are people who complain, I'm sure it's still fun.

Civ 2 is a great game, a lot more time consuming and in my opinion way more addicting. I never played past civ 3 and that game was ok I guess, no civ 2. A lot of people enjoyed Alpha Centauri the most. I would check out Alpha Centauri and Civ 2, pretty solid titles. GOG.com I think has a really great deal on Alpha Centauri at the moment.

    It wasn't adressed at you

I think it's more a different learning curves starting higher on the y-axis than geniosity.
