Most memorable classic moments...
Anyone care to share their most memorable XCOM moments?
bought APOC on Steam a couple years ago.. started a game and did my initial 'setting up' process - firing/hiring.. selling stuff I don't use, buying more of what I need, etc.
Was watching the cityscape waiting for all my new hires/equipment to arrive so I could start attacking the Cult of Sirius and watched a flying cop start shooting at someone. The cop's missed shots hit my base and destroyed about a 3rd of it - which is something I'd NEVER seen when I played APOC previously (to be fair, I never played it a lot).
I go into my base screen and any rooms in the bottom 2 rows are just gone.
I then realize all my soldiers are missing to - dead in the rubble I guess.
My shortest ever XCOM game.. about an hour and 15 minutes in game time.. LOL
One of my personal favorites was in my first attempt at a six man game. I'd lost everyone except one rifleman, but I could tell from turn length that there was probably only one alien left. Still, I had my last guy start beating it back to the ranger. Turns a corner and not ten tiles away is the last sectoid. I have that guy open up with auto laser fire and don't kill it. It opens up and misses my guy, next turn I waste it for the win.
There was also that time I stunned a Chryssadid with a stun rod.
First encounter with Ethereals introduced me to their exclusive Blaster-Launcher - i still remember the squeeky sound of catastrophic damages to this day! Only to realize where it actually came from -- all the way from inside a crashed UFO and through the roof. Three scouts were a bit too close, waypoints, paths... guess what went into research as soon as i parked the SkyRanger with two survivors only. Creepy desert map as well, IIRC.
During an assault on a landed UFO a soldier storms through the door and sees a sectoid with his back to him. He takes the shot and misses. Out of TUs he is unable to step back out of the room and is f*cked. But, he has one friend close by. He runs to the door but can't shoot the sectiod because his buddy is blocking the way. He does the only thing he can do... stun his friend and hide behind the door. Next turn he storms the room and sees two sectoids standing one tile away from his stunned friend. The sectoids have wasted their TUs in running around in panic and surprise. He takes two snap shots and kills the two sectoids. While the rest of the team sweeps the map the soldier guards his unconsious friend.
When I saw the two sectoids one tile away from the stunned soldier I could see their shocked faces (in my mind). Both thinking what the h*ll happened here?? Also, if the first soldier was succesful with his attack and he would have killed the sectoid he would have been out of TUs when sectoid number two stepped from behind the wall. Missing and being stunned by his friend really saved his life.....
Running into a room with my stun rod guy and he runs out of TUs...Inside the room is the last alien who has panicked....AWKWARD!
My supersoldier in a power suit gets nailed by a mutton blaster bomb. Everything around him is leveled.............. Yet somehow he survives.
