In the end, will you have aquired enough Adam to upgrade all your weapons?

Weather you harvest the little sisters, or you save them, by the end of the game will you have collected enough adam to upgrade all your weapons completley? What I don't want is being able to upgrade all your weapons completley with the exception that you can't mod your revolver at all simply because there isn't enough Adam in the game to do it. So do you think that the game will supply you with enough Adam or items/parts to successfully upgrade all your weapons completley?

I'd think so, but I'm not quite sure what you are getting at

lets say you find a spare part in a droor of a desk. you take it to the U-Invent station because you are going to use it to upgrade your shotgun. There is only one of these spare parts in the game, and you find out you can either use it to mod your shotgun or your revolver. I know this game is about choice, but I don't like the thought of choosing what gun to mod, sacrificing the other gun from not being modded.

Countless (well, maybe not countless) games have made you chose what to upgrade. Usually, you can just toss all of the upgrades towards a single weapon so it is really good, and then just not use the other available weapon at all unless a specific situation warrants.

I don't care much if this happens in this game, but I would like to see the ability to get every genetic mutation available.

If you search, I would expect you would be able to find all of the plasmids and gene tonics, but I would imagine that there would be choices that need to be made about modding your weapons. I immensely dislike games that let you "upgrade" your items, or character, or whatever, yet by the end of the game, no matter what your choices were, you always end up with the same skills/weapons/abilities, it just makes your choices seem unimportant. One way it could be done is that without massive searching for upgrades, you cannot fully upgrade everything, but if you search every single nook and cranny, you can fully upgrade everything
And btw, I really like how it seems the look of your weapons slowly evolve from a neat, albeit old and used, look, but can end up looking like something straight out of steampunk fiction, best example is the revolver

No, you upgrade your weapons with mods/upgrades you find around Rapture, and you can also buy them from the kiosks. You don't need Adam to upgrade your weapons.

Well, upgrading takes more strategy than simply taking off mods and then putting them on another weapon whenever you wish, you have to make concious choices in the game. I don't know if the U-Invent places use Adam, though, I think they use Rapture Dollars though. Adam is used specifically for character growth (health, eve, plasmids, etc.).

What I'm wondering is if you will be able to have a mod for a weapon, than switch to a different mod for that same weapon without having to go to one of those kiosks. And by the end of the game, do you think you will only have enough resources to completley modify say about 2 weapons to it's maximum?

I think you may have to go to the U-Invent kiosks to upgrade your weapon, but you only add on to the weapon, you don't take mods off that would allow you to just put it on another weapon. This was taken from the IGN Preview, it's an X360 BioShock Achievement, "At our session's end, we checked out some of the Achievements built into the game. You get some for hacking a turret, hacking a security bot, fully upgrading weapons," it sounds like you can upgrade more than 2 weapons in that context, if the most weapons you could upgrade were 2, I'm sure the achievement would say, "Upgrade 2 weapons of your choice," or something similar.

they might have an individual achievement for each weapon though, making you go through the game a few times to get all of them.

so if there is like 5 variations of a certain weapon, you don't think we will be able to cycle through each one of them in real time to choose the gun and it's specific mod we want to play with.

  13. #13
why not just play the game once to find out, then play it again modding everything else?

What does this mean? You can only hold one weapon of a certain type at a time, meaning, you can't hold multiple pistols or grenade launchers, only one, and you add onto these weapons accordingly; However you can put any mod onto any weapon you wish. The mods will be upgrades, once you put them on, you can't take them off.

are you sure you can't take the mod off? I was under the impression that if you had a mod on the shotgun that made it so you didn't have to reload after every shot, that you could take it off, and add like a mod that gives you stronger rounds. or just take the mod of completley and just go down to the bare bones of the shotgun. has it been confirmed that you can't take a mod off?

If you look at the context of the preview: "You'll also find (or buy) various mechanical spare parts you can use to upgrade any of your weapons (or your camera). Deciding which of your items to upgrade will be part of the game's strategy," meaning that you'll have to consider which guns you want to upgrade. It wouldn't take any strategy to be able to mod your gun and decide a few minutes later that you want to place the mod on another weapon. If you have a mod on your shotgun to reload after every shot, it will stay on for the rest of the game, but you could also add onto all of that, the ability to make your rounds stronger, so now you can both reload faster and have stronger gun power. I don't see the reason to make your guns worse than they are (to make the shotgun naked again, per say).

That would be good to be able to upgrade all the weapons at the end of the game. What about if you reload the game could you keep all the upgraded weapons or do they go away?

  20. Hey The-Bulldozer what's up with you and posting all of your comments in bold? Just wondering.

And what do you mean "reload?" If you were to load from a previously saved game, your progress would start from whever it was when you saved it, so unless you had upgraded weapons when you saved, you won't have them anymore.

no, eve is in the syringes. and i think what he means, is that when you start a new game after you finish the previous game that you've been playing, that you get to keep all your hard-earned upgraded weapons so you get to start the game off with them.

like dead rising. you keep your level but start the whole game over

Heh, never thought of that before! Sounds like a neat idea, although I think it'd be a bit too easy... maybe bump up the difficulty level a notch to balance it out.

Is there going to be an SDK for BioShock? I'd love to see some of these ideas implemented if the devs aren't actually doing them (can you imagine a Garry's Mod for BioShock? That would be amazing...)

An emphatic no to the original post in this thread.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that Bioshock is a game of choice. Having enough parts and Adam to upgrade everything to full is not choice, its simply a management of resources over time, hardly anything resembling choice to those who can see through such a thinly veiled attempt at fooling the player into believing their choices are making a difference or maintaining the challenge.

The player should not become an accumulated tank at game end, as that stinks of the smell of a generic boss battle that can only be solved one way, by brute force. Brute force via certain weapon combinations should be an option, but one that I hope the developers focus less on or create more difficulties to achieve.

so weapon mods build on each other. Once you upgrade them at the U-Invent stations with the parts you find, that's it. You can never take that mod off, and you can only add mods from there on out.

    yes, no?
if yes, close topic, if no, i need more explaining lol.

Ah, it's definitely possible you don't find all the upgrades and mods possible, but you can probably find a good amount whatever path you choose, and if you continue to explore, you'll be rewarded with more!

Like some have already said earlier, it's probably going to take you several playthroughs to experience all of the upgrades so that each time you replay, it's gonna give you even more paths to take and make it a whole new experience.
