Multiplayer umpossible after latest steam client patch

Yesterday we were 2 friends unable to play more than a few turns at best before getting disconnected. We solved it by playing with a third friend as the host. Today his steam client also updated, and now none of us can get to play with eachother.

Anyone know when Valve will fix this?

Are you sure this is the problem? If it is, Steam needs to fix this asap!

Yes, it is without a doubt the problem. I have tested this with 2 friends, and we could not load ANY saved multiplayer game whatsoever with the May-15 steam client update. We reverted to a previous version of the steam client* and it worked again.

I am very surprised that there are so few mentions of this problem.

(*we found a PC which had steam installed and not updated since March)

I have tested this problem many times now. We start a game and by turn 20 someone disconnects. When we try to reload it doesn't work. We've tried changing hosts loading a different turn all result in the same outcome. I represent a multi-player group of 700 people and we are all experiencing the same problem. Even a duel with 2 people wont work. It all started after the may 15th update to steam. This is very frustrating i hope as a community we can put enough pressure on them to fix it. With the new expansion looming they better do something quick.

I put in a support ticket with 2k about the problem and I advise you guys to do the same. Hopefully this will make them aware of the problem and get it fixed!

Yep, same problem here. Have been unable to play any new or saved internet MP games, they disconnect after the first turn. Will post a support ticket.

It's been 3 days now and I'm still unable to get friends to successfully join our MP game. I've submitted a support ticket as well and I've tested the game on a rig with a pre-May 15th steam version (it worked by the way).

    Hey guys,

The dev team is currently looking in to this. I'll let you know as soon as we have some info.

Having same issue here.. Steam wanted to update when we started and mostly we couldn't start a game at all.. If we managed, one of us hung up on next turn first time. Reinstalled both steam and Civilization V in hopes of it being a patch issue we then wouldn't hit. Actually managed to start a marathon game and play 145 turns in it, but then next turn hung up and one of us disconnected from game. Loading the game again was then hopeless. The one not hosting always lost contact. Really hope you find the issue.

Usually, when a patch doesn't work I'll play the game without the latest patch, but using steam it is so hopeless. We're screwed everytime a patch comes out with a bug. You should really make sure it is possible to play without upgrading to latest patch. (And it being possible to downgrade or reinstall older version). This isn't the first time I haven't been able to play Civ V due to issues of forced patch.

That is good to hear Greg, I'm getting the same reports from the league players, this is really having a major impact on MP games they are virtually impossible to finish now.

I believe that the whole issue was a steam one and that there has not been any change in Civ V -- so the version number has not changed. But, yes, it does appear that the issue has been fixed and games are being played again because they can, once again. be taken to a conclusion.

I still can not get it to work. U guys say there came some kind of fix one week ago? I still have the steam from may the 18. and can not load any multiplayer games.

Where can this "fix" be found?

According to the Steam mods the final patch came out on the 19th May.

It does seem that many people are reporting that it worked, but not for others. Hard to tell if the issues is peoples locations or Civ regional variations etc.....
