Modified Rules Round Robin (World group)

    Game Rules
Each player must settle in place. For the first 25 turns, each player will work only gold. After 25 turns (the turn you get your 100g settler) you play as normal. No Oxford. If something weird happens in the first 25 turns then restart. An example could be an AI walking in on your cap or camping one of your tiles.

    Tourney Info
6 participant round robin style. This group will be for non-USA time zone players only. Please see the other group for USA time zones. Play each player twice. Each civilization may only be used once. Top 2 players advance to a best of 5 final with a reset civilization selection. H2H record will determine ties. Otherwise, a 1 game playoff will determine who advances (playoff civilization selection counts towards final series). The winner of the USA group will face the winner of the World group to crown a final champion.

    Civ Selection
    Arabia
    England
    France
    Germany
India (restart if there are not 2 normal sea tiles)
    Mongolia
    Rome
    Russia
    Spain
    Zulu

    Can NOT play
    America – Overpowed.
    Chinese – Overpowed.
Aztec – They start with gold so they will get 100g faster which messes up everything.
Japan – Sea tiles provide growth which messes up everything.
Greece - Demo provides 50% trade.
Egypt - HGB and CoR would mess things up.

Doesn't Greece need to be disqualified too? They start with democracy => +50% gold and you cannot change governments during the first turn. So they would need to take a turn of anarchy which puts them at a one turn disadvantage.

  4. #4
After 2 turns greece can switch and the anarchy will put back on track?

The computer will take more barbs so maybe mongols not so good?

    Russia allowed or not?

Flash there will be more chance of taking an AI's second city though which will be at least two pop and give the trade bonus which is much better than a barb city. Sign me up for this baby though it sounds like my kinda game!! ;-)

Yes, you are right. They are listed under both allowed and not allowed though?
spain I guess is out as you start with a settler and can rush a galleon?

Maybe if I where a bit more familiar here I could get away with calling dukeblue a 'noob', but i'm not, so I won't

Put them both in and take egypt out. Gp issues plus colossus and hgb would be restart.

Spain seems a bit broken here. You can be out settling whales with no worries about your opponent stumbling on you or you can rush a quick warrior army and a galleon, find your opponent quickly and absolutely for sure win one of his two cities right off the bat, pin him in and then do basically whatever you want.

But I guess it's an experiment. Sounds interesting.

I think these rules will work good and want to mix it up. You're welcome to create your own tourney!

Oh but you would be so right Duke is a total noob......he wrote the book on noobiness, isnt it obvious...he thinks Egypt CoR is fair for his non-luck tourney...!!

I agree 100% with what you said which is why I originally had them off the list. But since I forgot about Egypt/Greece potential suckage I added them and Arabs. The goal is for nobody to have to push a button for 25 turns with each turn auto ending.

One thing that might balance it out is the lack of huts if Spain chooses a Galleon start. You pretty much have to tech HBR because your warriors will lose to barbs 1 to .5 after 20 turns. It would be hard to afford and galleon and horses.

We've had imbalences like this before in the 8 man tournies (Zulu vs Mongols anyone?) and its worked out OK. Granted, everyone seemed to save their Zulu, Arab, Aztec, Spain against me... :-/

There will still be luck... artifacts, civ choice, etc. But hopefully the games will be a bit more balanced with no walk ins and less AI rapage.

I agree imbalances are fine. For every game you have to play against Spain, you'll have a Spain against some weak civ game. Beat Spain once and you're ahead of the game.

Spain doesn't need to build horses. Just use galleon support. Plus you don't really need barbs as you already have 100 gold. I think the Mongols might be good for that reason. Like Liam pointed out, you'll be able to pick off a couple AI cities since there will be more of them around.

Also, I have never played like this before so might just become cannon fodder!

I guess u mean the ffa with India? Yes, bad city. Had a little settler walk and found nothing. Just settled there to get that close barb before anyone else got it. U got it and game over. It was actually over when I saw where my starting position was.

That US group will be like putty in our hands when our champion comes for them

"Second place" is first looser -> and I should know!!

As to that pesky Digital anomaly... maybe us ROTWers should have a grab at those king titles then - just to strip you of all respectability!

haha yea lets get in on this banter.... digital hardly defends all he does is take the title off grizz and sits on it.... my king title defences and wins number around 65, yes thats right 65 dont get me wrong digital is my toughest competitor at the moment and continues 2 impress me, but the guy needs a bit more than 11 or 12 king title defnces 2 be crowned an awesome king , that esteemed privlige at the moment is mine. as for the civ league...meh u yankees can have that for now so all in all the world players have really proven themselves vs the americans and im sure that positivity will continue, yaaa preyforme

oh snap pawkster, I have won against grizz but I have taken titles from denied, you and multi as well. Grizz is the only one not afraid to play me. Grizz has held and defended nearly as many times as I have. prey won one title from me and now has disappeared into the night to hold onto that title. we were supposed to play for it today but he didn't get on.

BTW, I have only been playing king titles for like a month and a half and I defend them as often as I am challenged unless a tournament match comes first or I am in the middle of a ranked game. people seem to be a bit hesitant to challenge me due to my ruthless tyrant ways. I have 15 king matches won or defended that's not bad in a month and a half. We got Grizz who has held number one in ranked in both h2h and ffa. multi and denied who have both been in the top 5 in ffa and duke who also won the world championship with some of the best competition around. you pond jumpers will get smoked by us yanks.

I never know who holds what so rarely challenge for any King titles. Itz & Multi are usually all over it anyway! I have a pretty good record against digital, something like 8-2 in the ten times we've played so he doesn't make me shiver too much. Even though this will ultimately end up with the best of the rest versus the best of the US I would love to see some kind f tournament where the world team are allies versus the US.

We could do with a representative from Africa/Asia. Me Prey & REM bring Europe to the table, Pawka & Scottie Oceana but nothing else!? Where's flash from? Rapid Eye Movement HAS to join this.
