    Hello everyone,

We've since identified the issues that disrupted the originally planned migration and would like to announce that The Irrational Games Forum migration has been rescheduled to take place this coming Friday, May 11th 2012 at 1pm EST. Once again, the process will take approximately 6 hours (fingers crossed) and you will receive an email with further instructions upon completion. The Irrational Games forum will not be accessible during this time.

    Thanks for your patience.

Batten down the hatches! Furl the mainsail! This is not a drill!

As a reminder: If you are already registered on both sites, make sure you have registered the same e-mail on both accounts so they will sync up properly.

Where'd all our threads go? I see them counted for on the main page but the BI board only has 8 threads. Don't mean to be a party pooper, just thought it was a 'migration'.

For some inexplicable reason the BioShock Infinite sub-forum is defaulting to only show threads that have posts within the last day (plus anything that's sticky'd). If you click the drop down menu near the bottom of the page you can select the time frame of threads you want displayed.

I have arrived. However I must admit I like the original Irrational forums better. I was a member on the 2k boards from a long time back but it is so outdated. One of the reasons I was so active on the infinite forums was it was cleaner, easier and more fun than the old 2k. So please make sure the badges transfer over and they update this puppy.

I can already see my post count is way off, I was in the top 15 on the leaderboards before and now I am a junior member with only 7 posts? Come on that ain't cool.....

Alrighty. This is gonna take some getting used too, finding out where every thread and sub forum went.
    Some small on-first-glance feedback:
Although while I like that you tried to keep the IG forum theme going, it isn't very easy on the eye. Especially when you switch between these very bright IG sections and the dark BioShock sections a lot. The option to change the theme would be very good(if this doesn't already exist).

My worst nightmare has finally become true...

I can't believe they'd ditch such a beautiful and creative forum to make us come back to...this!

Not only does the 2k forum lack any sense of style or originality...it's also not nearly as legible or clean and got so convoluted with 13 year-olds that'd spam post after post for the sake of raising their pc....

I already miss the chill community and laid back moderating that let the few arguments that came about work themselves out in a mature fashion...

very disappointed in this decision, IG...

  16. I don't really like it but i'm sure ill get use to it.

While I do agree 2K isn't very stylish. I must say there aren't "thirteen year-olds" spamming for post count. I've lurked on the 2K forums for about the past three years and it's quiet and subtle. More so to the point you can't really miss the community as it followed you over. This is a good way to bring together all our related topics and to grow our communities. We can meet new friends and have fun together, so I don't see anything wrong with that.

This blows! 2K, you must enjoy taking beutiful things that Irrational has created and put your dirty little fingers in it and degrading it. ie. Bioshock 2! Why couldn't you just leave us alone? Why?

    1) Please keep the discussion respectful, and
    2) What makes you think 2K was the one who asked for this?

Pretty sure your I.G forum account has been absorbed by your 2k account if you kept the same email address which would explain your low post count. As far as the badges you can still check out the one's you earned on the Irrational games website, but here's just a guess that will be the extent of badges. Be happy your name is properly capitalized, something I'd give my post count up for!

Yeah buts its only been one weekend, I understand it takes some time getting used too and with the lack of Bioshock Infinite new media it would be easy to make less visits. Hopefully we can continue some good off topic and talk about video games coming out to keep busy. If anyone does indeed take a vacation from the forums, keep this place in the back of your head when some new announcement/footage of Infinite pops up.

I'm sorry, but this just seems lazy. Two tacked on Sub forums, no new overal forum design, and no achievements like on Irrational are carried over. I loved those

    So did I.
I loved the bioshockesque art and vibe they used and the promise of getting myself a moai was something to look for... ( ゚,_ゝ゚)

I understand the sentiment about the achievements, even though some were bugged and some promoted trollish behavior. They were something different and fun to get. That being said their meaningless just as the point system was. Trust me when I say I didn't get a lock of Ken's hair for having over 3000 points or a to scale statue of Elizabeth for getting over 20 badges. What I loved about I.G forums is hearing about stuff/games/ideas from others I wouldn't have known or heard about if I didn't go to the forums and that is something which can carry on over here.

Just the thought of being a "private dick" for the rest of my life is kinda disheartening, i was kinda thinking about broadening my horizons and becoming a "public dick". Oh well, maybe in a different life.

felonious pretty much posted what I was thinking, too.

No disrespect to anyone who enjoyed the artwork or the badges, but that's not why I come to a forum, either. I value good info, meeting similarly-minded fans, and a user-friendly interface. On the balance of things, I found that both sites had great fans. The info was better on IG because we had direct access to IG staffers on rare occasions, but the interface was far better on 2K (edits didn't totally screw up formatting, no need to manually type out all code, etc). As long as we still get updates from IG and the odd answer from them on questions, I see the change as a win-win, despite the minor bumps and organizational issues that resulted from the migration.

I stand by my point that this theme is a total eye sore when browsing the darker parts of the forums at the same time.

Having customizable themes would be nice. Even if there was just an option to have the Irrational or 2K Games themes apply to all of the forums that would be better than the slightly jarring contrast shift. I'll pass this idea along to the Admins.

Agreed. Will take some time getting use to. I liked the IG forum look and feel. Plus, I am having trouble finding the sub-forums.

    Ridiculously short timeouts.....

    High Contrast Color Schemes.....

IG nudging BS:I closer into 2K Publisher......

See you later......much much later.......say six months to a year after release for a better dollar vs publisher value.

I would like to say that the merger was likely just the start. things evolve and change, and for the most part what I have noticed is that some people are unhappy about any change.

I think getting the accounts to merge was likely a technical hassle and they wanted to sort that out before the style, badges, and other fine tuning. I have no idea if some or any of these will change, but I guess the point is that it is fairly new and we should give it some time.

For my thoughts, I was on both 2k, and Irrational and was very happy with both forums.

Sorry If I'm being a bit dim, but why did they get rid of the Forum and leave the rest of the site intact? They'd already gone to the expense of having it all designed and created, and they obviously had a bit of a time merging it into the 2k forum so wouldn't it have been a lot easier to just leave well enough alone. WTF?

Well it's been awhile and it still blows, my post count is now 8 WTF! I posted more than 8 things in one thread alone, seriously disappointed here and with the delay this has become a serious downer.

Oh so here's a good idea, change it back! Or don't fix what isn't broken. Take your pick.

I suppose it depends on your definition of "well enough". Maintaining a forum is a lot of work. And it was my understanding that the IG forum was a custom build, which is why it took a relatively long time to iron out bugs (some of which we never licked, like edits messing up the formatting of posts). I assume by "the rest of the site" you mean the blogs? I'm no software guru, but I assume those are much smaller and therefore easier to take care of. I do know they ran on a separate system from the forums.

Maybe Irrational didn't want to split the fan community between two forums dedicated to the same game? Or maybe they are hunkering down for a big crunch and didn't want to spend resources providing a resource that already existed on another site? Or maybe they figured the forum software being used by 2K would provide a better experience for their fans? I honestly don't know for sure.

I'm amazed the merge worked at all, from a technical standpoint. From the moderation side of things, I can say that the databases don't appear to have meshed 100%, so it's made my job tougher, too. But I look at it this way: Irrational could have said, "We love you all. The forum has been great. But we're shutting down. Please continue over at 2K." It's happened before. But they went through all this trouble to save as much as they could. I'm a glass-half-full guy in this instance.

That is it exactly, at its core Irrational was a Wordpress site, which is made for blogging. So the transition to blogging was a lot more straightforward. Adding a forum to a Wordpress site is not quite as simple, they could have gotten a generic forum plug in; however, instead decided to custom program a forum which was a different beast indeed.

I am not saying that was the main decision element here, but it does make perfect sense. I still stand by the "give it time" mentality. I know it may not be ideal for everyone, but I am sure it was not a decision made out of haste.

I appreciate the white BackGround color as opposed to the black on the 2k portion of the forum. That is hard on the eyes. I second...wait, I third... (heck, just agree) with the others, that this forum isnt nearly as swanky as the beloved Irrational forum, but its about the members, right?
