Call of Duty Black Ops 2-Your thoughts?

Before I begin I want to say that I am not a absolute die hard fan of the COD franchise, in fact I only own 2 games MW3 and Black Ops, so if anyone rushes in and says "COD sucks." Please don't do that I'm only voicing my opinion.

Well last week Treyarch released a world premiere trailer of Black Ops 2, needless to say I was stunned, for once it looks like one of the COD developers actually made some great effort to bring a actual NEW Call of Duty game, rather then staying in the supposed modern age or going back a century in time to an old period of war.

Now it looks like we are heading 13 years into the future with mechs and unmanned fighter jets as well as having digitized maps on our wrists to map out the city to see where we need to go.

Also trying out some of the latest weapon technology(such as the handgun the random soldier was readying in a troop escort) so it seems we get a very new COD.

However Black Ops 1 in my opinion was terrible, not the campaign or zombies just multiplayer which is the "creamy center" of COD games. The multiplayer was unbalanced with the three OP guns, the Famas, AUG and AK-74u, every other assault rifle did low damage and a really slow fire rate, causing the game to be very slow paced.

The Ghost perk was over used, hit detection was awful and to much lag compensation.

So with that out of the way I must say after watching the trailer I have some hope of how Black Ops 2 may be the next COD that may actually stand against the original Modern Warfare game, especially with all sorts of new modes and improvements into zombies as well as bringing in one of the writers who wrote Batman Begins.

With my 2 cents out of the way, how do you think Black Ops 2 will be? What is your opinion on the COD franchise thus far?

I'm sure it will be a visual treat, and I'm sure it will deliver on what CoD fans want in another installment. Treyarch really did a great job with Black Ops, so I'm hoping they'll make the same impact on part 2 as they did with part 1.

The game is great, but the one major thing they need to fix to get the likes of me back on board: fix the damn online glitching. I just don't have time for that. My window for gaming isn't very large when I actually get one, I can't waste it being dropped so many times.

I am mostly interested in playing the game after one of my favorite composers Jack Wall announced he was scoring it. He just announced that two days ago after a mysterious departure from the Mass Effect series. So, now I'm pretty much guaranteed to pick up a copy.

I saw some jet footage in there, and some shiny lighting. Are they copying Battlefield 3? touche

TBH i expected this but not in this format. I expected a lunge into the future with laser guns, space station battles, etc with large scale threats in the form of gray matter or something. This looks to only be a bit of advancement but perhaps that still leaves them room for CoD 5 or whatever number.

You know, I'm going to keep an open mind. I like the idea of what would happen if our own advanced weapons were turned against us. I think there is a real world danger of becoming too reliant on machines. Not only do we risk losing control of them, but we risk losing people with the skill sets needed to fight in conventional warfare. Not to mention the fact that if we have a bunch of machines fighting for us, war loses its horror and just becomes a distant and accepted part of life (thank you Stealth ;p).

I play COD for the campaigns, put it on veteran and I have found them to be challenging and for the most part satisfying. The last COD I played was Black Ops and have yet and not sure if I will ever get to MW3. I really enjoyed the BLOPS campaign but a futuristic setting doesn't do too much for me. I'll reserve judgement till it comes out but won't be a day one purchase regardless too many other games to play which are both more innovative and fun.

They confirmed Zombies, so I'm buying it regardless of whether it's a clone of Battlefield (which I very highly doubt).

If what I heard about it is true (A light drizzle of RPG elements and free-roam.) Then I might possibly try this game out, following the release of Black Ops I haven't trusted/purchased CoD games so my loyalty for Activision dwindles. And also what Invander said... Zombies, Zombies everywhere.

After watching the trailer I think I can quite honestly say this is another COD game I will not be getting, I was actually considering it when I heard about a futuristic setting, something a little more scifi-ish would have just about had my sold, but no such luck.

Nothing, I like the idea of a futuristic setting, I just wish it looked a bit more scifi-ish.

Look, the thing about CoD is that it doesn't evolve. It's in creative limbo, but everyone still buys the new games because Activision always stops supporting its older titles and lets them get overrun by hacker-turds. On the whole, I bet that the singleplayer and multiplayer will be the same as the last several games, but with extra blinky lights added.

Zombies, though... this is a game mode that I truly love very much, and it's a bit separated from the rest of the series. They could have just as easily made this its own game, but then they would have made us expect too much quality... anyway, there is room for innovation here because people actually want and demand it, which is not the case for the rest of the game. If there are RPG elements to the game, they will almost certainly be Zombies-exclusive. This is a game mode that could really use some better player progression, because after you have Jugg and Pack-a-Punched guns, there's nothing else to do but run in circles like a moron.

Here's hoping that they put a little more effort into this game. The original BO campaign was very enjoyable, but I'm not so sure about this one...

Something that keeps breaking records and selling the way they do doesn't need to evolve, it's a cash cow. I've always quite enjoyed them, they do exactly what they're designed to do, the anti cod thing is just tedious and another bandwagon some gamers just like to jump on.

I tired of cod multiplayer after MW which was excellent imo, skipped blops and bought the last MW games for the campaigns & spec ops. I'll be skipping this one, setting doesn't interest me.

Agreed. Zombies was a very fun thing at first, but then once you got it down and can just run for hours and hours, it gets old and boring extremely fast. I also enjoyed the BO campaign quite a bit, mostly because of the setting/time period and the music. Don't know how I feel about this tho... If I want futuristic warfare I'm picking up the new Ghost Recon long before this

I really enjoyed the Cold War theme of the original, but BO2... the Cold War's been over for, what, thirty years? I liked the 60's theme of the original, but I'll still try the future campaign anyway. Multiplayer, I'll probably mess about in a little bit and then never play again, like I did in the original BO. Zombies are the reason I buy Treyarch's games. Zombies are why I pay for the DLC. Zombies are why I never bought MW3. So long as they pull off Zombies well, I'm happy.

My only thought about CoD: BO2 is that I hope the "death machine" a.k.a. mini gun makes it into the main MP weapons instead of just randomly popping up in a care package, and/or just being a kill streak option...either of those would suck for Black Ops 2 Mp

Uh... I can already hear the chorus of "OP!"s, and my voice is in it. Can you imagine that thing in close quarters? You could clear a room like no automatic shotgun ever could.

Exactly why it should be put in as a main weapon this time

This. Along with the campaign. I feel that Treyarch are far superior to Infinity Ward in terms of making an excellent storyline. I loved Black Ops' campaign, with its many twists, but nothing compares to that of Call of Duty 2: Big Red One.

CoD 2: BRO was the first old CoD game that I have played (and that was quite recently). I went back and bought some more from that era of the franchise since it was so good... man was I disappointed. BRO was awesome.

I agree. Big Red One was my first Call of Duty game and I loved it. The character development was crucial and had a strong storyline to boot, which is why the later entries aren't as good. Games like Modern Warfare focus too much on the action and violence instead of the emotional aspect of war.
