    Hello everyone,

This is a very important message concerning the Irrational Games forum. Please make sure you read this very carefully as this is applicable to All MEMBERS.

During the next couple of weeks, the Irrational Games forums will be joining the 2K forums and we want to make sure that this transition happens as smoothly as possible.

Here are some things we recommend you do to ensure your account has a seamless transition:

    - Verify that the email address you have on file is correct and valid. To do this, make sure you’re logged in to the IrrationalGames.com forums > My Account > Settings (under Basic Info) > Account Email

    - To those who have a registered account on the 2K forums, you’ll need to make sure both email addresses match on both Irrational Games forums and the 2K forums for a successful merge.

    - For usernames that exist in both forums, there will be an additional identifier added to the end of the username that belongs to the Irrational Games forum user.

So what does this mean for you?

Well, here’s a list of features you can look forward to after the merge:

    - A fully featured forum environment, meaning customizable posts, post previews, multi-quoting, editable posts, etc.

    - A more robust search tool.

    - Easier navigation.

    - Comprehensive personal settings.

    - Online status indicators

    …....and much more!

If you have any other questions or concerns regarding this migration, please post it below and we’ll try our best to address them.

    Thanks for your cooperation!

Ok so my first question would be: Will the badges we earned so far still be here?

Will the overall theme stay the same or will it take on the red and black theme of the 2K forums?

What type of additional identifier (randomized number, letter, or something else) ?

As far as my other questions -

What happens to the threads already on these forums?

What happens to private messages stored in the inboxs for user's here?

Will they merge duplicate threads? There are the same threads on both sites, same users.

Do the mods here become mods there?

What about all the cool stuff here? Like the blogs, an elite forum, or cliparts?

Also, why? This place is really nice, and I have a bad taste in my mouth for this merger. Please tell me someone at IG will post over there after the merger, and we will continue to see the kind of info I've become accustomed to at the official Irrational Games forum.

I also worry about some old posts getting deleted, since if that happens, it'll mean a lot of us would have to start some threads all over again, especially when there are some threads here that have been useful to us and for new users.

Speaking of old threads, I worry about 2K's 2-week rule applied here (as in, if anyone posts on a thread 2-weeks old, that thread gets closed off).

Yeah this place is great. V.dubious about the merger despite all the 'great new features'. If I'd wanted to join the 2K Forum I would have done it already.

I'm a moderator on both forums, and I can assure you that we won't do anything like that. Because of the much higher volume, 2K does take a slighter stronger stance on necro-posting than we do here. But I will make every effort to make the migration as painless as possible in terms of moderation. I'll keep things as similar as I can, including more leniency on necro-posting. Plus, felonious will still be moderating, and he won't suddenly change the way he moderates, either.

If we lose our badges, I won't mind too much. But I sincerely hope that we still get the Irrational Blogs in some form.

I will love no longer having to type BBCode to modify my messages.

I don't want to overstep my bounds, but I can tell you that I first learned about the merger from Ken himself. He knew I was a moderator on the 2K forums, and he suggested we merge the communities because splitting the fandom across two sites didn't make sense to him. If Ken supports the merger, I find that reassuring.

I have a 2k account for BS2, I'll just have to get that info in order. I thought IG bought themselves back from 2K?

    @warsmith

I don't think anybody knows exactly when things will be final due to the complexity of the operation. My best advice is to make your e-mails match up like Ratana suggested (if you have an account on both sites) now, just in case.

    @shocker22

I hadn't heard anything about that. It was my understanding that Take-Two Interactive still owns them. My personal guess is that BioShock was such a huge success, Irrational parlayed that clout into changing their name back and exercising a bit more creative control. But that's pure conjecture on my part.

  13. #13

Lot of other clutter from the other games on that site.

How well will the text formatting/block match up that conversion wont make alot of posts unreadable/trashed

2-week no post thread death ?? Kinda short in my opinion (some topics are rather slow in both of these forums)

When is this going to happen ???

I rather not reuse this name on 2k Games forum since the same name already exists there.

I created The Dukenator on 2K Games forums in July 2008.

This account here was created in 2010, but rarely used.

It's either shocker22 or Durandal. Pretty sure Durandan would not be happy.

Speaking as a Mod over at the 2K forums, as japester already mentioned, that's the "official" policy, but we're never that strict about it. As long as something meaningful is being added to the discussion we're typically ok with threads being "rebooted" even if they're past the "official" expiration date. It's really only when someone posts in an ancient thread with nothing more than a "me too" that gets it closed.

As for me, I'm looking forward to the merger. There's bound to be some growing pains on both sides, but it never really made sense to fragment the BioShock fan base by having two different forums for it. I'm hoping we can get back some of the thoughtful discussion that we haven't really seen since the launch of Bio 2.

@shocker, Irrational never left 2K and both are under Take Two Interactive - http://ir.take2games.com/phoenix.zht...862&highlight=

Irrational retook their name because, whenever they were mentioned by media they known as 2k Boston formerly Irrational Games.

Yeah that makes alot of sense, and I'm all for it in that regard. On the other hand, I think, in a way, Irrational will lose the unique identity that was recreated here. I just hope the level of fan service/features we get here will continue at 2K. My cup remains half full.

Now, I let my inner 12 year old out (forgive me). Making me a 2K insider would ease the pain of losing my favorite website on the net. Can't they just move them over here? Goodbye Irrational logo, IG.posts. We will miss you

So this is a BAD time to start a 'when will FOX News/CNN/that-other-news-network use "Bioshock: Infinite" in a discussion about the 2012 elections" betting pool? :s

    sad

cool... but i will say that if the ranking/points system at the IG forums isn't transitioned/carried over in some way... i'll be a tad bummed.... just a tad

Yeah, i really like the ranking system and badges even though they really don't mean a thing. However, in a small way it does give a little incentive to particapate in the forums, Guess it just appeals to the gamer in us all. Heck, i guess it's just good times!

While the badges and point system is fine and dandy, this clip says it all! Seriously IF we lose them no biggie, if anything right click and save the image of a few of your favorite achievements and use that as your avatar image in the new boards.

Though curiosity has me asking if their are any achievements that haven't been unlocked and if so what needed to be done to unlock them and what does the art work look like, seeing the artwork being most interested in. To a lesser extent curious about the remaining titles for points left to be discovered.

I see a few people posting reservations to this change, and I sorta have the same concerns..l I tried the 2K forums for a bit, and I found them lacking..l

It seems there are far more users on the 2K forums, and you end up with a greater 'noise to signal' ratio.... This forum has, in my very humble opinion, a nice familial thoughtful feel to it..

Now, the whole point of the forum is to get as many people talking about the game as possible, and having as few places on the net for those conversations helps focus the conversations I suppose... I get the reason for the change...

I just, really, don't know how active I will be on the 2k forums... When there are 8 pages of clutter like responses to a topic, I will likely stop reading before finding the next salient point in the conversation...

This all makes me sound snobbish, and elite.. But, point is, I will miss this place, and will be checking in at 2k games for all my Bioshock updates...

That's a valid concern on any forum, even this one though. I mean every time I saw another release date thead pop up with Gamestop's place holder I'd get a grey hair on my head.

I'll just say, the Irrational Games forum identity forged here will only be completely lost if the community here let that happen after the merge. Will it be altered of course, it will be - change isn't always easy but it can be good.

@everyone and no one in particular -- If you have been following Infinite or been an active member of I.G forums for quite some time -- your doing yourself a disservice to not giving the new forums a decent chance - say a month to see whether your like it or not and then make decision. It would be too bad to see fan's of Irrational Games and Bioshock disappear from the newly merged forums from a gut reaction and not at least testing the waters.

The 2K forum isn't nearly as active as this one and I am fearing that because of the merge users of this forum will simply stop coming and this community just straight up dies out.

So what does this mean for our threads? I'm assuming we'll lose our Elite board but does this mean we have to use the 2k off topic board now? Will all our boards be simply consolidated into a single "Bioshock Infinite" link?

From what I hear, this is still very much a work in progress. So the answers may not be out there yet. If I was to guess, I'd say they will try to save as many threads as possible and that an effort will be made to preserve or at least compromise on the forum structure. The three most popular sections (BSI General Discussion, BioShock General Discussion, and OT) could easily fit into the 2K structure without having to combine any of them.

From a purely aesthetic POV - Irrational looks much nicer than 2K which looks like just about every other forum on the web.

Despite being told otherwise, a lot of people on that site think BioShock Infinite is off-topic due to the existence of this forum. Which doesn't help.

Compared to the previous two BioShock releases, both sites are below what they should be. Encouraging all the fans to participate under one roof may be what we need to really ignite things once again.

If the conversation here is added to the conversation there, then we only have ourselves to blame if it seems dead.

Hey, I campaigned hard to take "No booger-eating," off the rules.

    And I stand by that.

The only real difference is that the Irrational users want to eat Ken's boogers instead of their own.

I don't know how to feel about that.....

Yeah but then we not only eat boogers, we eat pure genius in the form of booger. That's a completely different thing and totally not disgusting.
