Sorry, but i had to do this. Some players fail to understand easy little facts. The link between Rapture and Columbia. It's easy, there isn't one. Those two places are completly different cities. As i'm not the author, nor director of Bioshock series, i can only guess they are in the same universe.

But there is link betwen Bioshock and Infinite. Bio in the name means something biological, in this case, something in human body. Like biological experiments prehaps ? Modifying DNA with ADAM and EVE ? Shock in the name means something sudden. As i mentioned before im not director of the series so i can only guess, but it could stand for sudden biological progress, or sudden fall of man made Utopia.

Let's have look at Infinite, shall we. Many players are asking, why call it bioshock if ADAM and EVE are missing. But are they really ? What do you think Vigors are ? A simple Coca Cola drinks ? They are, again, a DNA modificators. But this time, they're not persistant.

The main thing about Bioshock series is man made Utopia which fails. Why is that ? Easy. Which is good for one, may not be good for others. Which is utopia for some, may be hell for others. I think Columbia will be suitable for this "utopian dream" as much as Rapture was.

And finally, don't take Bioshock as some brand for underwater creepy city. Take it as some set of rules. The place and time can change, but the rules still apply (genetic modifications, failed utopia, dramatic storyline etc.). For instance, look at Final Fantasy series, different world with each sequel, but world rules stays same.

Final verdict. Columbia may not be an underwater city, but again. do you really want another Bioshock from Rapture ? I say, let's see what Columbia has to offer first, then we can jump to conclusions.

Ive said alot of the same thing, questioning the departure from Science Fiction as the major aspect of the game (system shock and bioshock) and it becoming more magic oriented (tears and magic potions).

I will wait to see the whole story unfold when the game comes out -- as they may yet have extraterestrials involved or somesuch to avoid the game shifting to 'cuz' powered fantasy.

glad someone thinks similar to me on the whole "Rapture vs Columbia" debate. I would think this just commonsense but apparently people don't get that a setting shouldn't be a trademark of the game.

I am also happy to see the series move from Rapture onto Columbia. As for the link between the two games, the only reason anyone thinks that their is a link is because of that model of Rapture we see at the start of the Bioshock Infinite Debut Trailer.

Except its not a model of Rapture but rather of the 1893 World's Fair, just as it wasn't a Big Daddy but a diver holding a conch shell. Irrational was pulling a fast one which they discussed on an episode of Irrational Behavior -- http://irrationalgames.com/insider/i...sode-7-part-2/

I love the idea of Columbia, and I agree totally about what BioShock really means. But you have to admit they are completely different art styles. I personally love the art style of Rapture, the colors, the deco, the overall ambiance and feel are something that inspired me as an artist. It made me look at the ocean in a completely different way, instead of what I thought of it as kid (Little Mermaid and Spongebob) I thought of it as a dark, deadly, mysterious, yet beautiful unexplored world. Now, Columbia is amazing art as well, but we all have different tastes and that is the only reason I choose Rapture over Columbia. As you said, though, it's nice that they are changing it up, They did all they could with Rapture I suppose.

In Rapture it was largely dark so you couldnt see details alot of the time. Your brain fills in those details.

In bright Columbia you CAN see the details and your brain sees those caricatures and says 'looks a bit... alot off' and knows it dont look right.
