We're still 7+ months out, and they just announced the release date. Details on the CE are going to take time.
YES!
FINALLY!

Already marked my calendar.
Hello all,
Be sure to take a look at Ken's Message for the latest on the release date...
http://irrationalgames.com/insider/a-message-from-ken-levine/
Although this does mean a better single player Bioshock experience. Hopefully.
Pretty bummed about the delay to February. At the same time I know it's because Ken and the team will do something even better.
And how did he know to move the release to my birthday? I guess I know what I'm asking for in 2013...
Besides Nintendo, Irrational Games is hands-down my favorite company in all of gaming. Their pedigree is second to none. When I think of the games they have contributed to the industry, and by extension the experiences those games have contributed to my life, I am filled with joy.
Anything I can do to be conducive to their overwhelming talent and ambition is a fair price to pay. I wish them nothing but good fortune.
I will still be there when the game launches, as I'm sure most of the people on this forum will be. There is a reason why I post here--it's the sense of community I feel each time I come back. And Irrational is undeniably a part of that community. They take every opportunity to meet and greet with us, give us the good and bad news first hand, etc.
I hope all of us can get behind Irrational Games today and let them know in the clearest terms that they have our full support.
All I can say about the news is Doh!
I can't hide my general disappointment as I consecutively find myself with no games that I want to play this fall... While I hope they took this decision to add further magnificence to an already good game as it is.
According to you was it delayed behind the lines to avoid competition with other triple AAA titles that would have had an impact on BSI's sales?
precipice66 said:All I can say about the news is Doh!
Precisely!
more production time = better game = better sales = more D'oh!
This sucks but at least they are making sure the game is perfect.
I just wish they hadn't announced it so long ago. The wait is really killing me.
And with all that wait, the payoff better be unbelievable because holy crap have I spent a lot of time looking forward to this thing.
Today "no plans" for multiplayer, then miraculously a few months further down the line "B:I has multiplayer". Mark those words.
well that's not good news.... but just to make sure no one argues with me, its not bad news either (since they are making it a better game)
2013........Seriously?
nothing personal guys but this better be because a lightning strike took out several computers and not because of that network specialist job post.
You have however made one decision nice and easy, I'll be buying it after release on the cheap not at release full price.
P.s. If your really doing multiplayer swallow your pride and copy a decent 4v4 co-op with tons of npc commons to populate the levels.
I'm going to assume when they gave us the first release date that was 5 months from now that they thought they were almost done now this change makes me wonder what they thought of that would make the game amazing and would take 4 more months to add to the game. honestly though i'm dissapointed by the longer wait but I adore the series so I can wait.
Hearing this news today is an utter, total bull-crap. I know i haven't been posting much in months. This news is not funny, not cool at all. If this delay due to adding in a MP then IG should just leave it all alone. Forget about the MP, altogether. Just no on the MP.
D'oh!

I doubt it was delayed to avoid other company's AAA titles, I could see it being pushed back if Pachter was right on GTA 5 - http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...tober-release/
Take2 wouldn't want two of its heavy hitters going at each other. If I.G felt Infinite could use the extra months would work out for all in the end.

Your in the running for the temper tantrum of the Month award! Pretty comical as well, commenting on how your no longer going to pay full price for what can only be better more polished game with more time under development followed by making requests if they put multiplayer in. Funny stuff!
pixelshock said:Today "no plans" for multiplayer, then miraculously a few months further down the line "B:I has multiplayer". Mark those words.
Was going to put a nail in the mulltiplayer coffin especially if nothing was announced at E3 but with this delay, wouldn't surprise me at all now.
W00T Tantrum of the month!!! Go me!
It is true however that I now have no plans on buying full price, this push back was just the last straw. The news bites and editorial guesswork really stink of the same push back Bioshock 2 suffered, and back then a lot of people were saying "can only be better more polished game with more time under development " just like you...........
The thing is BS2 wasn't better, more polished, or enjoying one iota more time under development. Matter of fact the main game is literally on rails, and MP has a broken lobby system and some of the worst PvP battle options considering the number of players now days.
I could respect IG and hold out hope but Bioshock Infinite's Trailers are all rather promo CG except a couple of seconds worth of "say what?" moments.
To be honest ill be fine if they added a multiplayer this 4 month delay shows that until now they probably been busy with the singleplayer. A multiplayer will just add more to do if its done right I just hope electro bolt wont be in the multiplayer.

Hold on you haven't won tantrum of the month yet, don't want you to get so excited you will wind up getting very upset when Golliday or someone else ends up winning it.
On to some flaws in your logic --
1- Stating Bioshock 2 wasn't better for its delay is a judgement you and pretty much any consumer is not even able to make. You have no idea the state of the game was in at its original release date as you didn't play it then. They could have improved the game drastically ten times over and you still could have thought it was a dumpster fire. The fact remains that with more time in development cycle or pretty much more time taken to create anything your left with a better product. That doesn't mean you will like it or like the changes they may have made in that time but unless you think a creator of anything would use extra time to put out an inferior version of their product than they already have - more time equals better more improved game.
2 - Irrational didn't have anything to do with Bioshock 2 as well, so not sure why that was brought up. Their last project got delayed though, I heard many thought that one came about pretty good - http://pc.ign.com/articles/769/769197p1.html . Game's get delayed like Gears of War 3, Mass Effect 3 (Have heard has the best ending ever!), and even next week's release of Max Payne 3.
3 - Calling IG's trailers CG promo makes me question what your watching or if you know what your watching. The gameplay demos have just been that GAME PLAY using the in game engine, not using cutscenes. Their are scripted parts conveying story and the rest is what to expect when your playing the game. You have seen more action of Bioshock Infinite than all the media BLOPs2, AC3, Halo 4, and could throw a few others in there combined.
You and the rest of the people throwing fits that the game is delayed saying you have cancelled or are buying the game cheap with this being your reason is the this month's reminder of why I am glad I'm not like you people. In April, I had the Retake Mass Effect loser brigade to look too, this month I have you guys. For June, I'm sure something announced at E3 will have a bunch of you in a raging furor.
Hey look at that, even 'Auntie' took notice!
Although, I have a funny feeling this is their first article about BS:I ! The BBC: their with de trends. Yo..
REALLY?! Nobody "i believe" has mentioned the fact that not much more than a month and a half ago I, and awhole bunch of other Bioshock marks were given the news we had been yearning for for quite some time.(i'm not using the word "yearning" loosely) I'm sorry, but this news sucks. I fully understand that quality is paramount. If you can't do it right, don't do it at all. But what was anticapation and exitement before the the 1st release date, which relatively, was the other day, has turned into a cumbersome let down i can compare to chasing a mirage in the desert. They obviously knew that it was gonna be tight, why risk teasing your fans and admirers if they weren't completely sure when this thing was goona be in the can. The final release date is what it is. It won't be done until it's done...cool, whatever. But you can't tell me that when everybody came to work one morning and the whiteboard read..."SURPRIZE GUYS, we're not even close!" I think this was a case of ignorance truly being bliss. At least nobody got dissappointed before the Oct date was given. This forum was brimming with exitement and anticapation.A happy place if you will. Now it's just a sad, dark , hopeless abyss of pain, misery and dissallusion.(Ok, the last sentence was purely comedy) Despite all off the happy faces put on, deep down, we're all at least a little dissapointed. Yeah, i'm looking toward to the game, but at the same time i've just had to addopt the the whole "whatever" mantality about this situation because it's just too far away now to invest anymore of my interest and attention. Just feels like the old horse and carrot effect. Anyway, that's my whine. Godspeed, Ken Levine!
I don't mind when games get pushed back because they need more development time. Imo its better to release the game the devs want to make rather than have to cut features or god forbid, release an unpolished game.
However... If this delay is to add some form of online MP then I have to say, that I wouldn't be very happy about that.
In fact, (and bare in mind that I'm a huge IG fan because of games like SS2 and BS1, i'm usually the person singing IG praises, so I don't say this lightly), but that news would probably be enough to put me off buying this game completely.
As someone who really enjoys the single player experience and wants it to be all it can be, I don't need, want or care for any MP aspect in BSI, because once you start down that road there is no coming back, I'd rather just pre-preemptively jump ship early before it gets to the point that I am unhappy with the direction the games have gone.
I'm referring to this article about the delay btw, in which they speculate based on IG's hiring, that they might be doing an EA ME3 style delay.
http://www.officialplaystationmagazi...causing-delay/
If the delay is to make the single player better, then I'm in full support, if its for some kind of online MP component, which I wont even be able to use due to poor internet connection and various other reasons, one of them being I just don't enjoy MP, then I think I'll go look for my SP fix elsewhere, though that is becoming difficult considering how few developers are carrying the SP torch these days..
Anyway I have said my piece and I hope it didn't come across too critical because I know how it can sometimes. Hopefully its nothing more than a silly unfounded fear, one that I can feel a bit embarrassed about come 2013 when I see that the extra development time has been used fruitfully to make the game I want to play bigger and better..

Why so glum chum. Think about it. They said they would only do multiplayer if they thought of something creative and original and completely bioshock. As creative as they are, almost everything had been done at some point. Most of the other stuff would be boring. And from what was shown in the gameplay demo it looks amazing already and that was a while ago. Even if they have multiplayer the singleplayer will still be a great experience. Kind of like mass effect 3 the singleplayer was almost amazing except for some bits (or bit). I'm all for singleplayer improvement such as adding new vigors maybe or polishing it so well you can see your face on it.
Alright, time to make myself incredibly unpopular:
I'll start off by saying that I do believe Mr Levine when he says he wants to add polish to the game BUT, I don't believe that the delay is completely without a business-oriented motivation. Why do I say this? Because Arkane has just announced an October 9th release date for Dishonored. I'll admit that there is something of a chicken and the egg argument to be made against my statement (the announcement from Arkane came AFTER Irrational put back the release date) but there have been rumours for a few days now and I have to wonder if there was a bit of industry insider knowledge at work here.
