This I never understood. Why is it that the US usually gets big title releases a few days early compared to the rest of the world(I am not complaining because if I can get it on the 19th that will be a Friday and I have a week off school after that so I can Bioshock(That's a verb now(ooh look, parentheses inside parentheses(Inception(BRRRRWWWN)))) ALL WEEK LONG)?

My guess is that it's the same reason games typically come out on a Tuesday in the US: sales tracking. Since sales numbers are so important (particularly in the first few weeks, when the bulk of the sales happen), they want to maximize the data by releasing on the first day of the data week. In the US, that's a Tuesday. I'm betting it's Friday overseas.

If a franchise is a juggernaut that doesn't need to justify it's numbers (think "Call of Duty"), they can release any day they want. They don't care if the first week's data is chopped in half.

I'm betting a mid-October release is going to inspire a whole lot of BSI Halloween costumes. LOL

Oh, and remember: October is the release date for all retailers except Gamestop. 'Cause, you know, they are certain it's coming out in August....

Wouldn't releasing it on Friday make more sense then. I mean Friday is usually when the weekend for most people starts and they have lots of free time, making it probably the most logical time to buy a game.

No. It's my understanding that the tracking data goes Tuesday to Tuesday. It's a holdover from music sales tracking. So if you release on a Friday, then your first week will only contain four days instead of a full seven. Again, this is only in the USA. And I could be completely mistaken.

    So my initial thoughts!

How about those retailer place holder dates ? Let this be lesson to all on that ..... End of story

It's month away from Borderlands 2 which was announced for my first week of vacation in the Fall !

October 16th falls during my 2nd week of vacation! YES no need to fake avian flu , though their goes any thought of going to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal that week!

As Japester said coming out in front of Halloween could make for a mad dash to get a costume of your favorite character!

Very pleased to finally know the date!

Oh well, I guess if sales data are THAT important. But then again, I wouldn't know, I am no economy expert.

Anyway overall it is actually a pretty good date for me anyway so

I've heard sometimes delayed international releases may also to be to give extra time for any last minute localization which may need to happen not sure how accurate that is.

Where did you hear Gamestop was certain is was coming out in August?

As for release dates, it's a mix of everything. Release dates are usually different in the U.S. and Europe for marketing purposes. Games released on different days allow for more media coverage. It isn't so much sales since almost all 3ds games are released on Sundays, the same day it released in China and Japan. Publishers that typically work from the U.S. or Europe give their country preferential treatment. And Publishers tend to be the red tape that holds everything back, or the ratings companies. Someone once asked me if it was because shipping to Europe takes longer. To make it worse, it was about a game on Steam -_-.

This is wonderful news, but I won't be satisfied until I can put money on the most expensive edition of this game.

Ha, i just was at gamestop and made sure i had preordered(it's been soo long now i forgot) anyway after i asked if they had the release date of oct 16th, she said aww, they moved it back again. I then educated her that her date was just a placeholder...figured she would have known that seeing how she's been there for years.

Well I checked my companies vacation schedule and that week is all booked up. I need a serious, fullproof excuse here. I'm not working that week and playing 2 hrs/night. No way. At least I got 8 months to figure it out. I am not above claiming jury duty or something.

  22. #22

Yeah if they would only announce what the limited collectors edition price and what comes with it!!!

This is such a long wait haha. Oh well, I was hoping to get it before the summer time. Guess its better than no release date at all.

Thumbed for appropriate use of "BRRRRWWWN"

Why do they call Wednesday 'hump day', if most people get it on the weekends?

Seriously, this is great news... I will struggle to maintain my composure and NOT start asking for Collector's Edition details...

but if anyone has a definitive break down of the CE details, please let me know!

I'm gonna wait until the details for the Collectors Edition come out, then immediately pay for it in full from Gamestop. But still, a October release date means BI will be on my 24-hour marathon list this year.

Great news (sigh..). It's about bloody time Irrational Games. Releasing in the month as Assassin's Creed III is bravo. Way to competing with Ubisoft and their biggest franchise there. However i do have faith in you after all in all sincere honesty.

I thought Bioshock Infinite would releases much sooner where there's no other titles duking it out, rather than in the same month as ACIII. Anyway, this day two major studios announces a release dates for their titles is just too cool.

I shall be getting both, Collector's Edition of course. Fantastic news!!!

Any information on a Collector's Edition? I bought the first 2 CE and I certainly want to make sure I get this one; regardless of the price on it.

That being said, I wanted to congratulate you guys on this. I am sure you wouldn't announce the release date unless you were sure of the game and how it is proceeding.

Thanks for everything you guys do for us. I work in the game industry and I am aware of how hard it can be trying to design a game to match a vision. The hours are long and the sacrifices great, but it is appreciated by all of us.

    Thanks again, Irrational.

Probably a few months away from hearing any details, I'd figure by the 3-4 month mark we would hear something about it. Until then you can talk about what you want or the CE in general in this thread - http://irrationalgames.com/community...ou-want-to-see
