Well I double checked the premier trailer for GTA 4 was shown in March and then it came out the next year in April after getting delayed from the Fall. I guess I could see it coming out next year, everyone I've heard talk about in the gaming media thinks it will be out this year but they have been wrong before. For it to be say Next May would be a year and half since the first footage is shown and Rockstar once they show footage of a game usually don't take that long to get a game to shelf.

The latest video was impressive! I am eagerly awaiting the May release! Just like Remedy said: Rockstar's logo icon on the boxart is a quality symbol. I will totally buy that game.

For those who missed the new video:

    http://www.gametrailers.com/video/de...payne-3/725833

I've never seen gameplay in a TPS so seemless.

    @felonious

Maybe you're right or maybe the patterns just aren't there anymore. For a 2013 release the wait may seem relatively long, but you also shouldn't forget that B:I was announced back in 2010 and is aiming for a release sometime this year. Wasn't Red Dead Redemption orginaly announced as a PS2 game? With a fall release seeming to be more and more plausible for B:I, I doubt Take Two Interactive would let the two go head to head this fall.

No Infinite is on my mind but this is the exception and not the normal really and when talking about specifically Rockstar - I'm talking not when they announce the game. I'm talking about from the time they show the first footage/trailers. Look at Max Payne that was announced quite sometime ago with a release tentatively aimed for last Fall. No video was shown though, then it gets pushed back and finally this past Fall is when they showed the first footage of the game, now with the release date pushed back again it will have come out 9 months or so after the first video has been seen.

Looking back at RDR first footage was shown on May 7 , 2009 - http://hexus.net/gaming/news/xbox-36...ad-redemption/ and was supposed to come out that Fall before being pushed back to the next May. Making it one year after that footage was seen. It's almost like Rockstar's M.O is show first footage, announce a release date about 6 months from then, 3 months later, delay the game 3-6 months and then come out within a year from first footage shown.

I just don't see it being far into 2013 if it slips that far. GTA could come out in any month and sell like hot cakes.

New trailer for Max Payne - Going after the Girl - http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/02/16...e-girl-trailer

I like the new trailer sets the game up, really like the music playing in the background.

Thank God they nail the accent of the Brazilian characters, and they actually speak Portuguese! thats a miracle, for some reason Hollywood usually thinks that we speak Spanish, or that we have a Spanish accent.

Not much has changed apart from Max's hair, but if not broken don't fix it. Either way, I can't wait!

It just keeps getting better and better. I really dig where they are going with seamless transition from gameplay to cutscene and vice versa. It's something fresh.

Played some Max Payne 3 at PAX East, the clip of the action I played was pretty intense, looking forward to May!

I hear the game is surprisingly brutal, what's your take on that? Did you by chance get to ask any of the R* people about the campaign length?

The action was intense, not sure if I'd say surprisingly brutal. I didn't ask any campaign length questions. I only played for a about 5 minutes, it was good what I played.

I probably didn't elaborate properly, what I was referring to was how punishing the game is, especially with free aim turned on. I'm really hoping for a 10+ hours campaign here and knowing how R* are always after giving every penny's worth, I don't think I'll be disappointed.

In that case, I can see people saying that, I died a few times during the demo. Now part of that maybe because they drop you in the middle of the ☺☺☺☺ and you have to learn the buttons quickly another was I took a PS3 version over Xbox because that was available first (used to the Xbox controller more), and another is this game will indeed be very difficult especially on the harder difficulties.

Glad to hear that. This should definitely lengthen my first playthrough by a few more hours. Did the PS3 version look as if it is on par with the XBOX360 version, or much like RDR and GTAIV, the game will suffer from the PS3 port syndrome?

The PS3 version looked fine, to really tell I think your going to need to see them side by side. I'm sure come release the media sites will break down any difference

Watched the GTTV special on Max Payne, great piece and looking forward more and more to this game - http://www.rockstargames.com/newswir...ow-online.html

Checked out the first online comic as well which was pretty good.

The more I'm seeing of this, the more it interests me. When I had heard James McCaffrey's voice again in the trailer, I thought to myself "this is definitely the Max Payne I remembered and loved."

I wonder if they'll include dream segments again. Even though many people didn't like them, they were some of my favorite parts in the first two games.

Some of the reviews are starting to hit, pretty positive. Out of the three I've seen the Gametrailers is most critical on the game.

Not reading any reviews until after i've finished the campaign, too many dont understand the concept of spoilers would be interested to know from anyone who actually has the game how much of Remedy's style has been retained by Rockstar, or is it a complete over haul?

    Not that impressed so far....

My 360 version arrived today, it looks and sounds great, very cinematic (think I spent more time watching than playing in the first 30ish minutes) very high production values as you would expect from Rockstar.

It still feels a little like Max Payne, it's dark, gritty and VERY bleak early on, bullet time works well and is brutal.

Don't like some of the design decisions, the comic strip cuts have gone and replaced by cinematics and occasional words flashing on screen, just doesn't work IMO, not sure what effect they were aiming for, is just odd...

The controls are very clunky, took me a long time to get comfortable with them. The difficulty is hard to say the least, on normal it's very tough, dread to think what the other three are like but it is nice to play a game without regen health!

the cover system doesn't really work (its actually almost pointless) enemies are tough & very accurate and some times you're dumped into a situation that is just completely unbalanced, they will try and flank you & the AI is quite impressive but you're often very outnumbered and have to rely on a bad cover system instead of bullet time, again it's just odd....

Not sure what to make of it, looks pretty but some dodgy mechanics and design, think I should have rented

I'm enjoying the game quite a bit, got up Chapter 6 on Hard difficulty, some areas have been a challenge but nothing too crazy yet. Dig the story and the different approach of telling it. Hope to find some time to at least try out the multiplayer this weekend.

  27. #67
I'm also liking the game so far, just got to disc2. The multiplayer is a lot more fun than I expected tho, probably because it's so different from everything else out there. I've only played a few hours, and still trying to get used to everything and set my loadouts, but its great. Definitely the most difficult shooter out there to just pick up and play, takes time to adjust and get used to everything. Should be able to get more into it this weekend, but so far so good

I'm hearing some bad reviews, but the game still looks sweet. I was planning on waiting to get it on PC, but I've just moved my Xbox to somewhere where I can reach it more easily. I may just get it on the 360 and avoid the wait.

360 version looks great, would imagine its going to look stunning on PC, does get better on the second disc but still not enjoying it that much, it is a good shooter but not a patch on the originals, bullet time just doesn't gel with the gameplay and design IMO.

Just a quick question, what is the framerate like on the 360? I went back and played some Red Dead earlier and I couldn't get past it...

It's fine, though I don't remember RDR being bad, the ps3 version suffered more but both versions were capped quite low iirc.

Overall MP 3 is not a bad game but apart from a couple of chapters it never really grabbed me, production is outstanding but for me it seemed that's where all the effort went, great job on the story but it's not exactly uplifting

I guess I've just been spoiled by PC, then. I'll probably get a fairly low framerate for MP3 anyway, given my processor's tendency to choke on some games (mainly those that don't allow for multicore rendering).

Max Payne has always been pretty dark, but I prefer it to the typical military shooters we've gotten so many of lately (nothing against them). I always enjoy a cinematic game, but gameplay is the core of the experience. Even if it is not as good as the original games, I doubt they could have botched it too badly. I'll be sure to grab my copy off Steam at the end of the month.

Finished it last night, tbh I thought it dragged on a bit and was glad when it was over, started a new game on a higher difficulty which is what I do with most games but only got 30 mins in and had enough, not being able to skip the long cutscenes didn't help....

Very good game from a tech pov but not sure Rockstar was a good choice, it oozes style and production but never really clicked for me, they normally pack a world so full of choices the story gets lost but in MP3 the story overwhelms the gameplay, it is just not balanced. It's enjoyable but frustrating in equal measure not helped by clunky controls, another bad cover system and enemies with amazing accuracy which knock off great chunks of health before you can blink.

Not bad but disappointing it didn't match up to the style and gameplay of the original.

So I just finished Max Payne 3, and I will start off by saying I don't think I will be playing any other game which features the Brazilian favelas as a level. Between MP3 and Modern Warfare 2 I've had my share of this in my opinion crappy level design. Not particularly interesting levels at all but I guess being able to have an enemy pop out of the creature closet from some upper level shanty house is hard to pass up. Played it on hard until the last gun fight of the favela level and was like meh switched it too easy. I'm sooo glad I did so, as the game still took some time to get through even after the switch and would have hated myself for trying to slog through it on hard.

I too felt the game dragged on a bit too long and the whole "harvesting plot angle" I just didn't think was necessary but rather thrown in there to make another level or two. I liked the first part of the game, then thought the middle wasn't that great, and it picks back up in the end. Overall I still liked the game -- the story cut-scenes, Max's dialog, music, and the game looks great. I tried multiplayer for a bit, I just can't get into multiplayer shooters anymore - don't care if you have different objectives per match, it's the same crap over and over again. Part of me wants to go back to replay the first two Max Paynes, perhaps when I have more spare time will do so.

3 of my favorite Max Payne lines -
"I had a hole in my second favorite drinking arm"
"Haven't you figured out, I don't speak your ☺☺☺☺ing language!"
"I've killed more cops than cholesterol"

Really didn't like the early levels, the docks and boat chase was by the best part of the game.

The favelas was just over done, it looked amazing but i really couldn't believe how long that whole section was, agree about the sub plot, just when you thought it couldn't get any more grim.

Okay, after over 12 hours of downloading, I've got Max Payne 3 on my computer.

It performs well, pushing my computer to its limits but not dangerously so. I've got it running at Very High on most settings, and plain High on the rest. Don't have any framerates to post yet, but I'll get those later.

The game itself, though... it doesn't feel like Max Payne to me. Before, I could charge through the levels and take brief breaks from the action to down some painkillers. Here, I have to shoot the enemies about a dozen damn times to kill them and Bullet Time isn't a viable option because the mouse sensitivity is reduced so badly you can hardly aim, and there are hardly any damned painkillers in sight so you have to go out of your way to preserve health. They also changed the control scheme ever so slightly from the original two, which is causing me much frustration. They can be modified, but I haven't tinkered with them yet.

The cutscenes are well-made, but too frequent and too long. The intro and first cutscene, I didn't mind. They introduced the plot, which is necessary. When you are forced to watch a cutscene like that every ten seconds, though, it goes from entertaining to irritating. I get the feeling that they put so many in purely for avoiding loading screens. They wanted to make the game feel like a movie, and inadvertently turned it into one in the process.

I've played very little of the game so far (I'm in the nightclub), but at this point I am not impressed. I have heard good things about the multiplayer, so I'll give that a look in a minute, but I'm really hoping that's not the game's strong point. I haven't said anything that any of you didn't already know, but I honestly didn't think it would be this bad.

Stick with it til you get past the nightclub, it gets a lot better.

Don't know many who actually really liked it and is one of the games that will divide opinions, I liked some of it but can't say I actually enjoyed playing it much.

I've put down about two hours in MP3's multiplayer. At first I had trouble finding games, which is a bit odd given that the game is only a week old and that it was published by someone as big as Rockstar. Eventually I found some games, and I was actually pretty decent at first. Later on I began to struggle and I couldn't help but notice that I was running into the same people over and over. There are some problems with hackers, but I've only run into one guy who made me raise an eyebrow so far.

I did begin to experience some issues with performance later on. I have a 75hz monitor, so the game locks the framerate there. Most of the time that was where the framerate stuck, but at times it would go as low as 40, which is still not bad. What is bad, however, is how the game likes to completely freeze up for seconds at a time during combat. While I was playing, Rockstar put out a PC update that apparently reduces this for some video cards, but they didn't say which ones specifically. I may be covered- I don't know.

I should probably mention that the multiplayer spawns are HORRIBLE. I mean, GOD AWFUL. At least half of the time, I am spawning into the enemy's gunsights. It's unbearable.

While spawns weren't affected by the update, Rockstar have increased mouse sensitivity and added the option to remove mouse acceleration, currently in the form of a console command. So, it would seem that my PC-centric criticisms have been addressed, but only time will tell whether the fixes work or not. Either later tonight or tomorrow I'm going to hammer at the campaign for a while, so maybe I'll post my thoughts then.

I personally felt that the multiplayer was pretty bland and was I only able to play about three hours of it until I got tired of it and quit for good. Maybe you'll like it more than I did but that was my experience with it.
