Thread: Bioshock Photoshoot for D*C 2011 was AMAZING!!!!!!

  1. #1

I am so relieved that I managed to make it to Dragon*Con this year, and that I chose a Bioshock cosplay. To be perfectly honest, my friend and I had no clue that they would be there, it was just pure, dumb luck because we thought: 'Aquarium? Rapture.' XD

Holy crap, it was so amazing. Didn't even get into the main part of the aquarium before we were pulled aside and asked to be in the shoot. It was myself as Jack Ryan, my friend as a Little Sister, and some guy we didn't know as a Splicer.

There were tons of other cosplayers there for a larger shoot at the end of the night, and it was all just so amazing. It definitely made it a Labor Day weekend that I'm never going to forget! Everyone's costumes were SO GOOD! I don't want to spoil anything since they haven't posted the pictures yet, but we were FLOORED by how much effort was put into everything. And the characters that were there... Well, it definitely gave us ideas for the next time we do a Bioshock cosplay.

I repeat: BEST LABOR DAY WEEKEND EVER.

Ashaleighmarie, I agree it was absolutely amazing. I was there as the Subject Delta and my wife was Eleanor. I was amazed at the turnout and I couldn't even see everyone. And don't feel bad about not seeing a lot of the aquarium, we made it through the tunnel and into the main room and that was about it, but still totally worth it.

Nice, glad to see more people who went coming by to talk about it, Welcome to the forums as well. Subject Delta that must have been a job and half to pull off!

An Aquarium is just an Aquarium unless its got gene altered maniacal Splicers running around it, then it becomes a good time!

I definitely agree! I got to the aquarium an hour later than I was planning to because of the shuttle line from the hotels and all that jazz (I ended up taking a taxi with Andrew Ryan, lolol -- it was amusing sitting in a taxi trying to explain to the driver why we had a golf club with us and why I was wearing a corset and bustle skirt going to the aquarium) - I was in sort of a foul and rushed mood because of the shuttle issues and being late and all (and also cause the shoes I was wearing were slightly obnoxious :B). I thought I had missed everyone!

But that mood quickly went away when I found out that the gathering was 10pm and I kept seeing splicers all over the aquarium. Everyone looked amazing and the IG staff (Kayla and Sarah, iirc!) who were there were absolutely wonderful and sweet and the photographer was very good with direction. It was just so much fun -- it seriously made my convention. XD

(tnscotsman, this is Tenel Ka from cosplay.com -- I loved how you would respond to people with just a giant thumbs up - it was great seeing you and your wife!)

@felonious - yeah I spent about 9-10 months working on Delta (not solid, but total). It had all the working lights and working drill. The tanks were used to store the batteries for everything and an iPod and speaker for the soundtrack. Various music, sounds, and quotes from the games. It worked out surprisingly well, considering that just days before the con I hated the whole thing. I had 6 fans inside to keep me cool, and well, they weren't enough.

@hexterah - AH-HA! I thought so! It was great getting pictures made with your Ryan. He was great. We did have walkie talkies for me to communicate to my wife, but we forgot them, my gloves, her braces, and other bits back at the hotel. So, I have to get a better comms system in the helmet beside a better cooling system. I couldn't really wear it around everywhere I wanted because of the size and the crowd, and by the time the crowd started going down, I started crashing. After everything was done, and we got back to the hotel, I got incredibly sick, and we ended up leaving the con Sunday afternoon. Still totally worth it thanks to this event.

Awww, yay! Good to see people that were there with us!

Yeah, felonious, it was really a surprise to get there and see Irrational Games doing a shoot. And us in our Bioshock costumes, lol. I'm so excited to see the pictures, I keep checking back every day, I guess I'm just impatient, hahaha.

tnscotsman, you and your wife had some absolutely amazing costumes. My friend and I were pretty much struck dumb when we first saw you two. We managed to get around a little bit, but for the most part we just hung out in the Ocean Voyager exhibit where that huge tank was because we were just so excited about everything that was happening. The adrenaline kept us up for hours after we left the aquarium.

hexterah, we ended up getting a taxi, too. There were seven of us in there, it was insane. I was so excited when I saw Andrew Ryan, I made sure to get a picture with him and the male version of Jack, it was just too perfect. It's funny how this shoot just dramatically improved everyone's convention, but come on, how often does one get an opportunity like this? I'm still floating around in a little bit of disbelief about the whole thing. More magical than Disney World, in my opinion.

    Thanks ashaleighmarie! Means a lot.

I have to ask, did you by any chance get any pictures of us? We came away with like 5 pictures from the whole con, and none of us. So now I am on the lovely cosplay picture hunt.

Hey guys, while you wait for the page to go up with all the pics, if you haven't seen already you can posts pics you have in our Cosplay thread here - http://irrationalgames.com/community...cosplay-thread and you can also talk how you put it together or perhaps give some tips in this thread here - http://irrationalgames.com/community...oshock-cosplay

@tnscotsman - sounds like you really went all out and worth all the work man, saw the pic in the Cosplay thread, looks really well done. I bet the Pro shots for the costumes are going to turn out great!

I think between the both of us we only have a couple of you, but I'll see what I can find and post them, however many there are, in the cosplay thread that felonius was nice enough to link for us.

umm....yeah...I'm kind of looking forward to seeing these. This was definitely the highest point of Dragon*Con this year. Even if I did get deathly sick once we got back...stupid con crud.

Yeah, I added you on facebook and you saw the photos I got from the event. I am still trying to find out who that girl in the bunny mask and dress was though.

Hey, ashaleighmarie, I was the guy that photographed with you! What a great time! I also had no idea Irrational was going to be there. I had worn my Splicer costume all day and almost changed out of it before going to the Aquarium! Holy crap, would I have been ticked! This was my first Dragon*Con, and the impromptu Bioshock love-in was by far the highlight of the weekend.

Thanks so much Irrational for photographing us at D*C and for the awesome swag I can't wait to see the official photos.

Just so you know my love of BioShock ~ I had a Blanche de Glace cosplay planned for the shoot, which included my wedding dress, ripped to shreds and covered in blood ;D Unfortunately, I spent too much time on another costume and didn't have time to destroy my dress.

It was nice to meet everyone. I hope we can all reunite at D*C 2012 for an Infinite cosplay gathering.

I just wanted to jump in and say thanks again for doing that photo shoot at the aquarium. Our 6 year old who was a Little Sister that night just had a blast! She has been talking about it non stop and can't wait to wear the costume again next year!

I saw you all come into the main viewing room and thought she was just awesome and a perfect little sister. I'm glad she had a blast. Her picture with Delta is one of my favorites.

I'll make a deal with you. If next year she still wants to wear the little sister costume, I'll bring Delta back and she can lead Mr. Bubbles around Dragon*Con.

tnscotsman, She would absolutely love that! She's still running around in that dress on the weekends when she's playing 'dress up.' We live here in ATL so we will be there again next year. I can't wait to see everyone again next year!

Hey, emidirano, do you have a good pic of your daughter (little sister) with Delta. I would like a copy.

Great costumes once again everyone. A wide variety on the characters represented! I still really like to see a Cohen with the makeup and everything and a Simon Wales preaching Lamb's word!

The video of the Mr.Bubbles song was indeed awesome and a bit creepy all at the same time!

No I haven't seen that photo, great shot though. Cohen looks really well done, though hard to see totally since he is on the ground. Jack with winter frost plasmid on one hand, an audio diary hanging down, taking the picture is really well done as well. Thanks for posting it up!

Thought I'd bump this to ask if anyone here was headed to D*C again this year and going back to the aquarium! I'd love to meet up with others for BioShock photos again! We had Andrew and Jasmine costumes last year but this year we might be there as Andrew and Tenenbaum since I've been wanting to bring that back out of storage, haha!

Anyone planning on D*C this year?

I'll be back at D*C this year. I'm not sure if Delta will be coming with me. Last year that drill caused some damage to my right arm and I don't know if I have the strength to carry it around again. If I have time, I might make up another Bioshock costume instead.

Still I'd love to meet up again. I'm going to be there Wednesday night through. I'll be solo Wednesday, Thursday, and most of the day Friday. My wife can't get off her work until Friday. So, I'm going to need someone to hang out with

I will be back again this year! We live in Atlanta so we are always at Dragon Con. My little sister, who was the 6 year old Little Sister at the photo shoot will be back again in costume. She is already begging me to get her a new dress and can't wait to sing the Mr. Bubbles song again lol. I think her sister (the total tomboy) was jealous of all the attention last year because she told me that she wants to be a Little sister this year too...she even wants to wear the dress! Yeah...it's going to be fun!

I live around 20 minutes away from the convention, so it is a high possibility that i will be there this year as Booker Dewitt....

I'm pleased to announce that a new and improved Subject Delta will be coming back to Dragon*Con this year. I've been working on a more accurately scaled helmet and drill and am liking the results so far. I'll be wandering around Friday evening protecting Eleanor and another Little Sister, and we'll all be at the Aquarium on Saturday night. I'm getting really psyched up for this year.
