I haven't been on the forums in a long time so this could have been posted before but have you guys seen this island that this guy is trying to build? He is building this island in the ocean almost like an oil rig and it will completely void of any countries rules or regulations. It is being built to be a haven for libertarians. It seems a lot like the guy is trying to build a floating Rapture. What do you guys think?

Nice find tuccake! Seems similar to the idea posted in this thread -- http://irrationalgames.com/community...rapture-plans.

I'd like to see it happen, would be interesting to say the least.

There have been initiatives like this for decades, and countless diagrams, concept pieces and proof of concepts, but it seems like there aren't enough people willing to fork over the time/effort and funds to really get one of these off the ground. There is Sealand of course though- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Sealand. All in all it's a really cool concept, and I'd love to see it get off the ground, so to speak. Nice find.

Cool. As to tuccake's link: I'm not sure whether an enclosed space full of people with easy access to weapons is such a good thing. Though the Venus project concepts are awesome.

Damn It. I was going to post the same thing yesterday when I saw it but never got a round to it. As soon as I read the part where it said fewer weapon regulations and no laws. I was like damn someone's been playing BioShock.

Cool find! If I were a millionaire with scientific studies, I would definitely go there.

Not for researching unethical stuff, but for the tranquility of the place... I hope that there is tranquility there!

Living in Boston, I saw this appear in he Metro while riding the T to work: http://inhabitat.com/underwater-skys...t-city-at-sea/

it made me think of Rapture. I think I was making my way through the "Brass Balls" achievement at the time, hence the reason it caught my eye.

I was very intrigued by this concept. However, you have to wonder who could be funding this? I cant even comprehend what a project like this would cost. And despite my over active imagination, I would like to be a resident. How amazing would that be?

I was a bit late finding this story but I find it very interesting.

How can a small floating country support an army?

If they do dot have an army, what would stop someone who does have an army from stealing it?

Who pays the police, fire brigade, and street cleaners?

If people live in the same place with no social structure is it still considered a civilization?

The idea with the islands was that there would be multiple islands each owned by a separate company. For instance Apple could own one island and Microsoft another. The company's decided the laws of the land, they would then compete for residents, if you prefer the laws of Apple then you could live there, if the laws change and Microsoft looks better then you can move there. There wouldn't be anarchy or disorder as the company would hire a security force.
