Amazing. Brilliant. Beautiful. Weird. Jaw-Dropping.
@laforzadimente - that whole 'to the left' thing was great. With all the chaos raging around you, a little heads up will be a very useful thing.
Nice to see places where the skyrail is anchored to the city. Also liked the massive chains connecting some sections of Columbia.
Also how creepy does songbird sound?
And I thought it was very interesting that Elizabeth did not seem to be resurrecting that dead horse from Columbia rather unsuccessfully trying to bring through several other, different horses to replace it.
No I enjoyed the demo, but it was definitely presented in a terrible way. I thought being patient would reward me with the 12 minute demo, not 4 minutes of the demo, commercial break, chit chat, blah blah blah.
I think I just hate GameTrailers, there website lags horribly on my comp and Geoff annoys the crap out of me.
But yeah like I said, great demo.
She was trying to save it, but began intersecting with other universes altering which animal it was. Just showing both the ability of her power to and her currents limits of it. I wonder how often she provides advice to you and if that was just a more staged moment. I hope we are allowed to intervene in all the areas where the Vox were abusing people. I also thought the game looked sharp considering the streaming quality and we have to remember we have over six months left of the game being worked on. You can easily improve certain technical aspects in that length of time, right? I loved the vibrant colors of the world. As long as the PC get a CE and higher specs I just have to get it to get the best Columbia possible.
I found that little lullaby sang by Elizabeth to the horse a rather poignant moment among many other, however, the authenticity resonated in the words " Hush, little baby, don't say a word. Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird" makes me believe there's a deeper hidden meaning beyond the surface of her words in that she sees a resemblance between the mockingbird and the humanoid Songbird that captures it's essence, and the reason why Songbird pertains to this is this (straight from wikipedia):
"Mockingbirds are best known for the habit of some species mimicking the songs of other birds and the sounds of insects and amphibians, often loudly and in rapid succession."
"Mockingbirds are also very protective of their families."
"Mockingbirds are extremely bright with intelligence equal to ravens, crows and magpies"

Yes! Elizabeth calling out points of attack like that really make the game that much more immersive. Great to see when not using Tears, Elizabeth is not cowering in a corner.

Yeah..especially when they mention at the beginning that it would be a "Full uninterrupted" demo.

Geoff Keighley's a tool...he can be very unprofessional and his general knowledge about the gaming world is questionable. GTTV rubs me the wrong way too....they always seem more interested in whoring out their company name than showing off great games.
But I digress. I'm glad the teasing is over and the demo is finally out there.
You might have something there, Pixel. Interesting thought, either way.
Purdon- Actually that's something I was thinking about-the whole Vox Populi and Founder thing. Thus far this seems like a result of hate producing hate to an extreme, in part. The Vox Populi didn't even exist in Columbia until the Founders showed their belief in (almost definitely nationalist), American Exceptionalism(yeah, nationalist)/Manifest Destiny (and maybe Imperialism/Expansionism?). If the Founders are anything like the increasingly popular politics of the early 20th century, they won't be remotely likable or nice. Even my family couldn't live in their world, since even the ones that are Christian aren't Protestant.
But yeah, it's made pretty clear with this demo that the Vox Populi have gone *way* too far, by the time you get there. If one didn't already know from all the other information we've been given.
As for Elizabeth's relationship with the Songbird, I've actually been seeing it kind of like an abusive boyfriend, except for the fact that I kind of view Songbird's affections as a more fatherly one. I could be wrong, of course, but from the little I've seen and know, I would expect that. Especially since he's taken care of her since she was five.(Though there are plenty of relationships that have gone from parental to more sexual/romantic)
knives said:Am I the only one who wasn't impressed at all with the demo? I was initially worried that all the teaser trailers would ruin the impact for me when I finally saw it...and I was right.
No grips about the actual content (other than Elizabeth constantly respawning). I just thought the way they went about presenting it was very poor.
Yup just you. Anyway I was really impressed with the demo I mean I know their not doing with the game, but so far so good its going damn well. I like the Songbird and the fact that they kept the eyes changing from color to color. Honestly I have no real complaints so far. I enjoyed the demo and hopefully they release another one soon.
I've watched the demo at least a dozen times, and I still can't get over how well the dialogue flows between the two stars.
Seriously knives?!?!?!
You were not impressed by those stunning 15 minutes?
Presentation is to blamed on GTTV and their sh!tty process of hacking up a cohesive sequence cut up between even sh!ttier advertisements.
It's on youtube now in it's uncut entirety:

*** For those that haven't watched it, spoilers below***
I've only watched it once as it came on pretty late my time. It's been mentioned before but one of the really great things that I saw was the amount of variability in the game (multiple paths).
For instance, you can go this way or that way. You can 'choose' whether or not to stop the put down the horse or stop the execution.
If Booker (the player) decided to allow the execution, would that whole scene not have occurred, as the VP wouldn't have really been aware of his presence? Had Booker stopped the guy from shooting off the flare, would the zeppelin not have shown up and backup wouldn't have arrived.
Felonious mentioned it in this thread (that some pompus jerk startedbut it does seem there are some limits as to what Booker can carry. I'm thinking of Booker & Elizabeth (who, like 'Bradjelina' will have the moniker, 'Bookabeth' ) in the shop when Songbird is looking for them at the beginning of the demo.
All in all, I can't wait to get home and watch it 100 more times on my DVR!

LOL. For the record, Irrational Games won't put anything in an official press release that spoils the game.
These are all just informational appetizers. Juicy, juicy appetizers!
@japsester me wants more juicy appetizers plz...

Small thought, Booker collects money from the cash register I wonder what you will beable to buy with it?
Aside from all you've seen, you can see Elizabeth struggling against one member of the Vox Populi when passing where she is in the sky line.

Ammo
Weapons
Vigors
Tonics
Supplies (maybe something similar to eve hypos)
Same stuff you can buy in Bioshock I assume
Hopefully the vendor machines will be just as funny/creep as the crazy clown one (welcome to the circus of values!), and the funny mexican one (no dinero? No ammo!)
Gave the game alot of character.

Wouldn't see the point in actually buying weapons if I can only hold two and can easily find them on the abundance of dead enemies and "Take Arms" barells and there seems to be a lack of scarity of ammo with the weapons being picked up seem to be well loaded unless ammo is in your inventory and not "part of the gun", probably is but just a thought.
Did anybody else notice that when Booker made that enormous fall from the zeppelin to the Sky-lines when the fight ended, the screen got really dark? I wonder if there might be some sort of black-out limit to making such extreme jumps...either that or it could just be aesthetic as I'm sure even eith Columbian superpowers, any man would feel a twinge of fainting when making such an incredible fall.
Just noticed this for the first time:
Note the threshold that Booker walks through to meet Elizabeth kneeling behind the horse. The Latin phrase "ALIS VOLAT PROPRIIS" is cast into the ground meaning "she flies on her own wings" which I assume refers to Columbia or perhaps time. More on the phrase adapted as the motto by Oregon can be found here
And here's a clip of Elizabeth kicking a Vox in the balls!!
@boltonhawser
I noticed that as well from the G's he pulled. Not sure about a limit though, it seemed the option for that rail all the way at the bottom was sense while still on the Zeppelin. Doubt it would be there if it would kill you / knock you out.
I think the game Looks awesome and I cannot wait to play it.

Not so much that there wouldn't be an option to do it and survive. But more like if I made several huge jumps like that in rapid succession if that would have any effect.

*Applause* Phenomenal catch with Elizabeth defending herself aptly from the Vox thug. Though Ken has mentioned this prior, we will never need be overly concerned for Elizabeth during combat. Despite her youthful or naive view of things, she's not the atypical "damsel in distress." Though see needs Booker to escape Columbia due to the machinations of the Founders and the Vox, and her escape further impeded by Songbird, she's not helpless. That, for female Heroines, is always refreshing to see.

Agreed. I mean, as we have seen we already have a multitude of tasks at hand in such a largescale battle. That means it would be nearly impossible to keep track of Elizabeth's health, either that or if Irraional decided to make her liability, they could never be so creative as to make that enormous conflict that befell our eyes during the demo.
I just finished played the first Gears of War and I am really appreciative of having a good sidekick like Elizabeth because Dom and your other buddies, even though they didn't always decide if you failed the level or not, were horrible. They loved to be out in the open, constantly got killed and if they served any purpose, it was to take some bullets for me while I moved (maybe killing one or two Locusts if I was lucky).
Now I don't know if Elizabeth's interactions with the Vox are scripted or not but from what I've seen she's a much better sidekick than any I've seen in videogames before. She can fight in a totally different area while you go to another and if she's with you, she'll help you by bringing in something from the Tears, not just to absorb half the bullets being shot at me. I don't need to watch her health or heal her and she looks like she can fight a good number of the opposition while I'm away unlike the typical buddy/escort mission where they might kill one or two while you're blasting a couple dozen.

I would imagine that there would be actual street vendors, or perhaps even stores that hadn't been looted yet.
Also, maybe an EVE replacement would be something similar to a Vigor, except that it boosts the amount of times you can use the ones you already have.
Example: Bucking Bronco appears to be usable up to 12 times. Maybe after using it 11 of those times, you can take this EVE replacement to refill the amount to 12.
Could be helpful in fights.
Another thing. There appears to be a Resistance (the ps3 game) health system earlier as an improvement over regen, and that's exactly what it appears to have. The health bar is in three sections, and regen only restores the one your health is in when the damage stops.
There appears to be not only a two weapon limit, but a two plasmid limit. That essentially frees up the d-pad completely. I wonder what it'll be used for if anything, it could be to communicate with Liz. Having that always there could be great.
So I actually downloaded a nasty trojan (comhost.exe and a couple of backdoors) by clicking the link. Thankfully I was able to boot into safe mode and get rid of them but yeah just a heads up.
But anyway Songbird is funny.
Here is a link to the full 15 min demo in HD free from any interruption:
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3...nfinite/717145
Haha..Songbird's gasping during the first encounter reminds me of this..
Just went through the comments and realized... there has been no mention as to the absence of the handyman (handymen).
Can we assume he's/they are strictly associated with 'The Founders' ?
Thank you for the link.
Early on when the couple trespass the Vox district, a Vox member tauntingly says to Booker "What are you looking at Kemo Sabe?" and "Kemo Sabe" translates to friend/ faithful friend in Native American. This, plus the Vox faction adopting the traits of Native Americans all force me to question Daisy's background.

Totally called it.
Dammit, I said that Elizabeth was fighting one enemy there first. Anyway... It doesn't matter.

Congratulations, Irrational, you created a believable character!
As it's being said before, Booker gets the job done, no matter what, if he has to be a total jerk about it, he will be.
Although I did sense a good relationship between both Booker and Elizabeth. I wouldn't also say that he's a jerk.
EDIT: By the way, PS3 gameplay in the PS Blog, I don't think this is just with the buttons Photoshopped, since some parts are actually different from the original one showed in GTTV.

Ops..just found a typo in my OP, my bad. Booker's character development is inevitable. Cheers for the link.
@baltonhawser totally deserve some credit.
Even though I don't have and do not plan to own a PS3, I went ahead and watched the 15 minute presentation for it anyway. And I think I said in the other post that I thought I heard Native American and maybe African in there. Having others highlight their use of war paint, war yells, and language only provides further proof eh?
I couldn't help but notice that both of Songbird's lenses are fractured, is this Booker's deed?
@durandan I really think that we connected the dots, I mean she has to at least tie-in to a Native American lineage in a form or another, right?

I notice some subtle changes in the dialogue between the PS blog footage and the other version per say of footage, gameplay seems exact.
