Infinite's answer to Plasmids and Gene Tonics are Vigors and Nostrum, maintaining the offensive/defensive combat system that Bioshock 1&2 created.

I made this thread so people could input what Vigors or Nostrums they would like to see in Bioshock Infinite. Here are the already confirmed Vigours:

    Murder of Crows Vigor:

These send out a swarm of birds to attack your enemies. The obvious influence here is the Insect Swarm Plasmid - I'm guessing the crows will crowd around an enemy or group of enemies and peck them, enabling you to shoot at your own leisure.

    Electric Vigor:

This seems to be another updated version of a previous Plasmid (Electro Bold). I'm guessing there will be some sort of upgrade system involved here, and we already know that Elizabeth can send out a raincloud to allow you to electrocute many enemies at once.

    Telekinesis Vigor:

Confirmed, was also in the previous games (I'm surprsised that the three Vigours we saw were all akin to Plasmids in the previous games). I'm sure you'll be able to do new things with it, though. Elizabeth was able to bring up objects from her surroundings and bring them together into one big explosive metal ball - and hand it to DeWitt who was able to throw it with his telekinesis.

    What are your ideas?

    Concussive Blast Vigour:

Sends out powerful sound waves, knocking enemies off their feet. Has obvious implications in a city where a wrong move can send you plummiting down thousands of feet.

    Gymnastics Nostrum:

Enabled Booker to jump higher (good for those previously inaccessible areas) and to move faster.

I imagine we'll be seeing some sort of vigor that disguises us as a citizen of columbia or other form of hallucinagen given what we saw in the gameplay vids as it seems perception will be a big theme.

Like the Murder of Crow, with each different shape and angle of the bottles come with different magic/power it hold. For example: for a Concussive Blast vigour i imagine something exortic in nature like my discovery.

Well, i think we'll probably see some vigors based on old plasmid. I bet my ass that there is going to be an incinerator vigor, one that freezes, etc.

I do hope that they surprise us with lots of new ones, though. And i would really like an unstable teleporting vigor rofl

I think the shift vigor transforms objects into a previous or future version i.e. Singularity but a vigour.

I can only assume there will be more original powers and not just rehashes of old plasmids and tonics. There'd be no fun in that.

I have a feeling there WON'T be any Hypnotize or Enrage Vigor though, as the Handymen don't seem to be mindless drones that you can walk up to like the Big Daddies.

A smokescreen Vigor would be useful. It'd be interesting to see a plant-based one.

A radar Nostrum would be really handy.

@rcrab. I actually was thinking about the Hypnotize and the Enrage kind of power that will feature in the game earlier today to be honest. That's a No on those.

these two are i believes is matte black pieces, not like other where it's made of class, or have painted on them

On a personal side note: (i didn't meant to harm or disrespect IG or with an ill intended mentality coming on here from 2k forum causing troubles. I just thought that, since IG is still a part of 2k no matter how big or small. I would gratefully joined IG's forum discussion. It's been somewhat less traffic for quite sometime over there anyhow. But this doesn't mean i've abandon 2k and Rapture. Far from the truth really. I welcome BS:I with open arms and hopefully i can be a poster whenever i can on here. I know my place and all you have to do is say a word and i'm gone.)

    Thank-You.

Something they really NEED to create is a REVERSE GRAVITY Vigor! Just imagine it would work sort of like the Cyclone Trap from BioShock 1, instead this time, there is no roof..... enemies literally fall into the air and never come back down, though they might get squashed against higher floating buildings, if they are in the way. If they do, they just stick there, all bloody like flies on a windscreen.

The more you upgrade it, the more powerful it gets, for example eventually enabling you to shoot dozens of enemies to the skies at once! Think about it, this fits perfectly in the entire 'atmosphere' of Infinite!

  13. I hope there is some kind of upgrade to the rage plasmid, that when activated the enemie jumps out of the platform to their doom in the skies.

It has to be a must at this time, but I really want to see a fire vigor, but maybe this time some kind of flaming bird appears and attacks everyone in sight.

Bear in mind that no Vigor is likely to be a 'rehash' - the Electric Vigor was able to to be combined with a rainstorm, giving it new qualities (and I'm sure it can do new things); the Telekinesis Vigor could pick up weapons and fire them at their previous owners, and wield huge metal death objects created by Elizabeth; the Murder of Crows Vigor seems to send out a kind of 'storm' of crows that isn't just scripted to travel to an enemy and freeze them for a given amount of time, but whirls around a whole room and disrupts multiple enemies - it's more of a chaos causing Vigor.

I would be up for a fire based Vigor, for instance, because I'm sure there would be many new novel forms of it. And it is BIOSHOCK Infinite, after all

At this point the only characters that we know about are men and elizabeth, so I don't think it's worth to see 1 girl naked and see 1000 guys fighting against you without any clothes.

It's still an electric power, or telekinetic power. There might be new, added effects and bonuses stemming from the use of new technology, but in the end it's still just stuff we've already seen with a slight twist. I want new, totally original powers.

I'm not worried that there will be to many plasmids that are the same, or mostly the same, as ones in previous BioShock games. From what I read in Gameinformer it sounds like these abilities won't have to be scaled to each other as much. They don't all have to be something constantly useable. There could be some really cool powerful bad ass abilities. I think the ones that have appeared are staples of the series, and I think it would feel like something was missing if they weren't there.

My only concern is how you get the vigors and nostrums. I mean the game doesn't come out till 2012, but they haven't said if you find them around town, after killing enemies, at shops, or all of the above. I'm not worried, but I hope it won't be hard to find the best of the best.

I think like previous Bioshock titles. Where the syringes play a pivotal role. I see the same for BS:I, only this time Booker relies more heavily on elixirs and potions in a bottles like MoC. Yes while the game won't come out until 2012. There's no mentioned of how booker finding them around town and so forth.

I'm guessing here, booker is a man who gets things done. Maybe he just into the whole mysterious Columbia thing..or maybe just luck? lol

A steam vigor would be cool and it would be useful in so many ways a) you could use it as cover to fight under and as you use it you can see perfectly fine or even with increased accuracy. b) it damages your enemies slightly as there flesh has been burned they respond slower and slowly take damage. 3) use it operate non-working machinery and some sort of adaption of it could turn it into a new mini game to replace that of other bioshock games. d) most importantly it would look very very cool

Entange Vigor: Uses nearby plantlife to hold foes in place for a few seconds at their feet. When combined with Elizabeth, it could just completely entangle their bodies and crush enemies. Note: Only usable when plants are nearby.

That could be pretty cool. I guess it'd just make the person targeted go into the Matrix? It'd be like casting Slow spells in an RPG.

I'd like to see these vigors:

Thorns: Wraps up a small area in rose vines, trapping anyone there in tangles of thorns and keeping them in place.

Brainwash: Pretty obvious, but it makes someone your permanent helper, until they die or you focus on someone else.

Rictus of Pain: Creates cuts over a person's skin constantly, doing damage over time as they bleed out.

Nightmare: Turns a target insane with fear over the user, making them run away or worse.

There's only one nostrum I'd be curious about, though:

Night Vision: Allows the weilder to see better in the dark. Of course, dependant on day/night cycle in Columbia.

The way Vigors were described to me, it seems like you'll drink a bottle of, say, Murder of Crows, then be able to use it a limited number of times, maybe 3 per bottle or so. More common vigors could then be made weaker, or with more uses per bottle, whereas stronger effects can be limited to one use per bottle, and be mildly rare. This would remove EVE from the equasion and add an element of strategy to collecting and saving certain vigors.

Love the collecting and saving element to the vigors! Makes for interesting strategic options.

Oh, and I loved your idea about Rictus of Pain, levyathyn!

I think it'd be cool, also, if you could make someone else (a target) exxtremely magnetic. It would be quite fun, depending on what was near them at the time. ^_^

    Thanks, Sante.

I think that the majority of the plasmids in the first game were extremely tangible, nothing too intangible or farfetched. The only plasmids that were out of place in my opinion were the cyclone trap and decoy plasmids. Yet these were designed as tactic-changers. So I think we can put vigors into only three categories: Offensive (MoC, pyrokinetic, electrobolt) then we have tactician (enrage, insane, traps, befriend) and finally we have the tools (telekinesis, electrobolt). It seems odd to me for them to have a paralyze vigor if electro can stun them for three seconds. It also seems that they didn't really have that many defensive plasmids in one due to the non-requirement. Two was more defensive. But anything plant-based seems too ridiculous to me 1) Killer plants aren't cool and 2) where are the plants? I could hardly see them using roses to kill people.

@levyathyn: You're rictus of pain seems cool but odd that it would cause danger and stun them. I doubt we'll see many combinations of the three different traits outside of tele and electro which could never be properly defined in the first place.

I want to fly! When it wears off, try to drink it while falling. Have diffent levels with longer duration. "Yeah, I can make it to the hotel roof....D'oh! " *smacks side of building, hangs for a minute, plunges to death*

A "feather fall" nostrum would be nice.

And i'd like to see more non offensive / defensive vigors like a "see through walls" vigor.

Sleight of hand - a nostrum that shortens reload times, great for when your surrounded or caught off guard.

seasoned skyrailer - a nostrum that allows you to adjust your speed slightly when using the skyrail network, great for frequent skyrail users.

Reflective shield - a Vigor that allows you to briefly deflect bullets, will not work against heavy ballistics such as artillery shells. Great when facing a large force of gun-toting columbians.

dead-eye - a nostrum that allows for increased zoom capability on any weapons with a zoom option. great for long-distance fighters.
