I posted about this in the CE Thread waaaay back on the old IG forums, but I still think one of the best in-box tchotchke's ever was the manual for the Crimson Skies flight simulator, which was written as a magazine called Air Action Weekly. Everything about it played up the 30's pulp-era feel, especially because the thing was actually printed on pulp paper. Now Crimson Skies didn't have a CE, but it was my favorite example of having something literally in the box that started telling you the game's story before you even started playing the game.

I agree with watchman about a map of Columbia presented as something like the map to Disney World or Great Adventure. Having a map could be cool because it can serve to foreshadow locations in the game before the player has the chance to experience them in gameplay, which is a nice way of unobtrusive storytelling.

    --------------

I forgot to check if Ferris wheels even existed by the specified time of the exposition, but lo and behold :

"The original Ferris Wheel was designed and constructed by George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. as a landmark for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago."

Though the idea apparently goes back to the 17th century...

An Exposition map showing all the things that once were part of Columbia sounds good. They could make tickets for some of the attractions and some simple souvenirs. A small flag and a medal I think were things they had back then.

Might also be interesting to have the Map show places that no longer exist - map would be for the exposition in '93 (19 years earlier), and places like Comstocks House would have been called something else and would have had some other function.

Of couse this is all probably a pipe dream (a visual map instead of a text brochure of attractions) because the game company doesnt really know what the other parts of the city was or how large it really was supposed to be, or be able to show an overall plan that makes sense (just as we never really saw any clear plan of Rapture).

    -------------

Is there any mention of really how big Columbia is supposed to be (ie- population). A 'show city' which it was supposed to be originally can be faked (potemkin village - mostly false fronts with little behind them, actors 'going thru he motions'... ) without all the people a real city requires (though example from disneyland underground of how many people you never see in a similar situation).

Big enough for 'social action' as in the plot when you effectively have a small village's population and you can see the cities limited extent (was hard enough in Rapture to be a 'self-sufficient city' and most of it never seen/out of sight).

Another reason they wouldnt want a realistic map of any kind....

I can afford it. But, I wouldn't pay $200 for a video game. The only way I might is if it came with 2 Custom Bioshock Controllers and maybe a Bioshock 32GB Flash Stick. It would have to make sense to me. Just having some lithographs, extra discs and a "figure" wouldn't make it worth spending $200 to me.

Considering it doesn't come out until February. I am sure the announcement will be closer to December, if not January. Usually the discussion on what the Collectors Edition should include does't happen until the game is 100% completed and is being copied to ship.

Sheet Music of 'Float Columbia Float' (reuse music from 'Rise Rapture Rise' - but lets see how creative they can be to supply 12 verses)

A little display model of one of those security zeppelins would be a nice addition.

Wings/propellers/gun turrets... might not be too small to have enuf detail (which isnt a big deal as somewhat bigger is actually easier for them to make as long as it doesnt grow to be the size of a loaf of bread)

    1) An actual sky-hook.
    2) Encyclopedia which includes everything about Columbia, its history and the people/things in it.
    3) An art booklet.
    4) A Murder of Crows bottle.

I think that a 12" or so song bird statue would go quite nicely next to my Alduin (Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim) and Marcus (Gears of War 3) statues. I think it might be a little too late to put that in to production but would still be cool if it happened.
