Thread: BioShock Infinite Collector's Edition - What do you want to see?

I know it's still very early days, but what is everyone hoping will be included in the Collector's Edition?

I'm hoping for lithographs, a soundtrack, a collector's tin and one of those Murder of Crows bottles that they included with the press pack. An art book would be lovely too.

    What does everyone else reckon?

I like everything you mentioned, though I m thinking something like Murder of Crows bottles could also be used in a viral campaign of some sort. I'd also go a step further than a collector's tin - I want some thing on par with GOW 3's Pandora's box, Master Chief's Halo Helmet, or Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Jack in the box , something grand representing Bioshock Infinite/Columbia which could just be for display or double as case/storage device. I'd like developer commentaries and behind the scenes dvd.

I also really like the Big Daddy figure from the Bioshock 1's Collector's editon but I would wager NECA will have a whole slew of figures ready for Bioshock Infinite's release.

A mini replica of something awesome from the game whether it be a building, some sort of gun, or tonic type thing.

Maybe an art book that's designed different than just your average run of the mill art book, like a tin cover, with embossed images.

An LP record would be phenomenal, I have two Bioshock LP's hanging on my wall, a third would be really nice.

How about an Alpha/Tin Man/Handyman/whatever the cyborg thing is called statue? Like the Bouncer Big Daddy statue that came with the original BioShock?

This is a little early, but I love art books from any game. Also Bioshock has been having some good soundtrack. I would like an item specific to infinite. An item that will make people ask "What is it?".

I would like to see: The biggest art book w/commentary on the planet. A graphic novel explaining the backstory and stories leading up to the start of Infinite. Dark Horse comics made one for Fallout New Vegas and I hope it's a trend that catches on. Oh...please make the gamecase normal size so it fits next to my other games!

I'm clamoring to get that Murder of Crows bottle. But I'm sure that is not going to make it in to anyone's hands that isn't in the press.

Artbooks are always good when done well ... look to the BS2 book for reference.

The lithos / prints are a bit tricky. Most of the images I've seen so far have a racist and hateful undertone. I think some of them are visually stunning, but I can't say I'd be proud to hang them on my wall like I was with the Rapture images.

If the story has a lot to do with the Chicago World's Fair (as I'm hoping it does) maybe a replica of the aquarium decoration from the trailer? Figures are always cool in my book, but make it something unique ... not something NECA will do better later in plastic.

I would love to see something like that as well.

I'm with you here - I think that it can be a painful reminder for some of us who (either historically or presently) were not considered welcome in this country. I also think that some people uncritically accept satire and deconstruction and see it literally - the whole idea of Rapture is such a takedown of Ayn Rand's pseudophilosophy, but because the world was so stunningly rendered I think a lot of people saw it as an endorsement. (Though to be honest, people who fall for Rand tend to have a hard time discerning fantasy from reality - my favorite argument of theirs is that the financial collapse of 2008 was due to too much regulation...)

I'm a sucker for anything that blurs the lines between fiction and reality, that's part of why I'm so into ARGs. So an art book and a soundtrack CD would be great, but what I really want to see in my Collector's Edition is a little piece of Columbia. I totally geeked out over the press release swag, so anything along those lines would be a great addition to the Collector's Edition of BioShock Infinite.

    Action Figures, Soundtrack, Posters, Artbook.

I want a lithograph and a soundtrack. Although i would have preferred to have a lithograph and soundtrack from BioShock 1

  13. #13

Soundtrack - knowing the music will be on par or will exceed what we heard in Bioshock 1

DVD - I always like those behind the scenes DVD that shows the development process.

    Art Book - Duh!

Unique unlockable something - not sure what they could do but could be easy if the game has MP

Post Cards - that highlight the unique and beautiful world of Columbia that IG has created

Golden ticket - would love to see IG do something truly unique like include 5 "golden tickets." The winners would get either really cool, one of the kind swag and/or a tour the IG studios and have lunch with Ken Levine and his team.

I would like a limited run Ken Levine to tell me bedtime stories of the wondrous world of Columbia. And Ken would occasionally feed me

    A Chicago World's Fair snowglobe

On a more serious note, I got the Bx1 collector's edition and really liked the "Behind the scenes" DVD. It just let me know about little details I hadn't heard about elsewhere, like the fact that they used a real orchestra to record the music, and didn't edit the sounds afterwards: they wanted it to sound human, because BioShock was a game about humanity, so they left in every little page-turn and fumble.

The CE soundtrack was also a good idea - I especially like the fact that they printed it to look like a mini LP - but it was actually just three tracks remixed by Moby, which was disappointing. A more extensive CE soundtrack would be very, very welcome.

I'd also really like some posters, though I completely agree with what you're saying about the racist elements. If somebody walks into my room and sees a "Crush the foreign hordes!" poster with malformed foreigners, it's not going to make a good impression. But I'm sure they could pick a poster-image which is less incendiary. And art book would be nice too.

As regards figures, I still have my BD figurine but wouldn't be too excited by a Handyman one. It'd be cool, I wouldn't complain, but I don't desperately want one.

Oh, and a tin case would be wonderful.

This is exactly how I feel. I want things that look like they're straight from the world of the game.

coffee table book, high-quality, satin finished, oversized poster(s), minature figurine collection, maybe a really cool rugged watch (http://www.fahad.com/pics/romain_jer...ic_watch_2.jpg)., mini frameable postcards, ......

Seeing that it's a bit early, I think our imaginations for an ultimate collector's edition is limited by the fact that only little has been released to the public so far.

Anyway, how about a T-shirt printed with anything Columbian?

A collection of posters and an artbook signed by Ken and most of the artists.

    This sounds like a $200 collector's edition...

Which we're starting to see more of, so I wouldn't rule it out.

As far as action figures go, I'm almost completely certain NECA will be releasing a range of figures in conjunction with the game. The BioShock 2 figures have been a roaring success - they would be crazy not to. I quite like acquiring the various BioShock action figures; I'd rather have some kind of prop replica with a Collector's Edition.

$200 sounds reasonable, as long as I don't get a Helmet, or cheap goggles!!! So far the BS collectors editions have been amazing. They put time and thought into it. We are not afraid to pay a large some of money for a collectors edition, just make it worth our money. with such a hard economy right now paying extra $ for a collectors is sometimes hard, especially when there is one for almost every good game coming out. But if it comes down to a games with cards with enemies on it or a collectors eddition with casino cards poker chips and art book, which do you think that I would rather have. (comparing fable 3 to fallout New Vegas, for those who arn't in the know) Make us feel that what you are offering is worth it,

I think $200 collector's editions are a bit much. I bought the Bioshock 2 CE and that was just under $100 and that was bordering on a bit much, honestly. I like nice, well-made simple things - the Andrew Ryan figurine they gave out at PAX East would be a great example of this.

@assassinsnyper You can't really compare the Fable III and Fallout: New Vegas Collector's Editions seeing as Fallout is a good bit more expensive. The trade-off with Fable III is that you're getting more exclusive DLC that will probably stay exclusive if the last game was anything to go by.

@undeniably The kicker with the price for the BioShock 2 Collector's Edition is that it's £24.99 on play.com now. >.< http://tinyurl.com/ydwrma8

It's bizarre that where one has rokceted in value, the other has drastically dropped. It could still climb up in price yet, I suppose. I managed to acquire one before they really soared in price.

In retrospect I wish I had... I remember when it came out they went for about $120 on ebay... still a bit much, really.

They simply made too many Bioshock 2 special editions and the game didn't sell as many copies period of what they expected it would. Bioshock 1 was a new IP and very limited in production. I also got mine right at launch but I am sucker for limited editions. Its like COD prestige edition/Halo 3 helmet, those limited edition dropped pretty quickly in price. Mass Effect 1's limited edition I was able to get a 100 bucks off ebay and that wasn't even sealed when I sold it. One can get good deals on limited editions after the fact, you also risk missing the boat and paying through the roof.

I agree, at this point it's a little bit early to speculate outside of just generic "artbook, soundtrack CD, figurine, or prop replica" ideas. I will say the things I DON'T want to see are:

-anything wearable (T-shirts, hats, etc.) you have to then worry about sizing on top of everything else and if the sizing is different from the usual and something is too big or too small you're hosed. Aside from that, anything you wear is going to wear out. As much as I love my Splicer's Unite BioShock 2 T-Shirt I have an internal battle every time I go to put it on because I know that each time I wear it and wash it, even if I'm extremely careful, I'm shortening it's life.

-DLC that's going to be released to the general public a month or so later anyway. If I pay the extra money to buy a special edition, I want something that sets it apart from the standard edition. Yeah, I know, it's elitist, and I should be happy other people are getting the privilege, but it's not 'Special' if everyone has it.

-Stickers, Posters, Postcards, etc. This one's a tricky one because I have a lot more exceptions to this rule than the other ones. If I'm going to drop extra money on a package I want something more substantial than glorified scraps of paper, HOWEVER, if these things are done right than they can be worth it. If it's a high quality lithograph, it's worth it, if it's a Walmart variety poster, not worth it at all. It also helps if it crosses over the line into prop replica territory, for example, the Bio 2 Special Edition came with three posters that were not only high quality lithographs, but also replicas of posters found in game. Basically, if you're going to include anything like this it has to be of the highest quality and have substantial "nerd value" (or "collector's value" if you prefer).

Just about anything else, I'm ok with. I do say that I want the package to be roughly $100 at the most. You could make the coolest Collector's Edition ever, but if it's much more than $100 I won't be able to justify it and I'll just depress myself that I'm passing up all the cool stuff.

Yes... plus most of the stuff they put in these things are made in China and super cheap to manufacture.

I want the packaging to look those giant blimp-like balloons... As for the content... I'd want an artbook for sure with some written commentary to go with it... The full score for the game... Some sort of standalone comic or novel.

And maybe a copy of System Shock 2 to show Irrational's roots? =D

(I know EA has the license ).

Yeah - they gave away five of them at PAX East back in March. The photo is from the announcement for the giveaway, I don't have one.

The artbook would be most important... Then ofcours the box/art. The Bioshock 1 box was kinda booring in my opinion, the second one with the butterfly made of handprints... Wow, i just love that box sitting on my shelf!

Maybe they'll do a poll or something to see exactly what people in the forums would like to see. After all, it's people like us that are going to be purchasing it.

Also, yeah, artbooks, figurines, and the like.

Didn't the do a poll regarding the content of the Bio 1 Limited Edition? That's what I've heard, but I wasn't a member of the community back then (hell, I didn't even know what BioShock really was).

I couldn't honestly tell you. I know that quite a few companies do it now. Lionhead did it to see what merchandise fans wanted to coincide with the release of Fable III, so it doesn't pertain exlcusively to Collector's Editions. Wouldn't that have been on the 2K Forums anyway?

Yeah, but I meant the online community in general I didn't really start actively participating in a forum until i started following SitS.
