Okay, one of the funnest things they did with BioShock 2 was their awesome, viral marketing. They created a website called "There's Something in the Sea". It was following the life of a man whose daughter was kidnapped and brought to Rapture to be turned into a new Little Sister.

Now, I was really hoping that they/you guys would make something like SitS (Something in the Sea) for BioShock Infinite. The most obvious choice for the name would be "There's Something in the Sky", of course. It could follow DeWitt's employer's search for Columbia and what-not.

    Just a suggestion.

I would love for there to be another SitS. I don't think Irrational will do i, but we do have a couple of years to spare.

How about it isn't the employer? Obviously, Columbia is hidden, so we could follow a man who spotted Columbia and his attempts to enter it.

That sounds like it could be pretty cool. Maybe a small viral marketing campaign that has nothing to do with the protagonist of the story, but some random guy trying to make his way to Columbia. I like it!

Hey Irrational, just a suggestion but if you want to do any sort of viral campaign/ARG for Infinite, call Elizabeth Tobey. SitS was by far the best ARG I've ever been a part of, and I'm sure she'd do something fantastic for Infinite.

Well up to now, some of the titles from 2K that are AAA have gotten nice viral marketing, and I'm expecting some kind of viral marketing from this game too.

It would be very good if done right.

Unfortunately, I missed most of SitS. I just never got around to following it. That's why this would be great! I wouldn't miss it for most anything.

but "something in the sky" wouldn't work because everyone knows about Columbia...

so if someone in the universe said "Theres something in the sky!"

everyone would say "yey! its Columbia you tard!"

so in the end the title won't work, but i back the idea 100%

I think they're just using the "Something in the Sky" title to reference SitS, so it wouldn't need to be called that. I think everyone just wants something along those lines to experience something they could participate in leading up to the release of BioShock Infinite.

Yes, I agree. I also wished I had known about SiTS.

I hope Irrational does something so we can do more than just theorize.

Exactly, Steph. Two years is a long time to wait, so it'd be cool to have something to follow so that time would seem to go by quicker for the game's release.

What makes you think it's hidden? What of the images shown makes you think that?

Levine said Columbia was made to show off America's power to the world. Why would they hide that?

The boys at irrational told that the columbia isnt like rapture, it isnt hidden under the sea, it isnt a secreat to the world, so that one wouldent work i think... But what they could do, is like this diary or something from an engineer or anything, that was helping building the columbia.

    back on topic:

i think a cool "sits" idea would be andrew ryan coming to columbia to find his " perfect" world. it would help Rapture fans to adjust to columbia...

I would love something similar to SitS. But i dont want a complete copy+paste site. They should come up with they're own unique viral marketing. They're creative enough to figure out something awesome.

It depends really who is in charge of it. Irrational may want to just focus on getting this thing made the best way possible - and they may let 2K just hire out marketing team or use their own to do this.

Like or hate Bioshock 2 - Liz and that team did a phenomenal job with Sits and the ARG for X-com that I'd be perfectly thrilled if Irrational asked them to do the same for Infinite.

But this time I'm sending letters.

Hey, everyone- just remember that the plot and everything I came up with- even the name- are just temporary place holders. IG could do whatever they want with this idea, should they choose to use it.

Anyone from the 2k forums knows my opinion that if there is any kind of viral marketing for this, 2k (being the overlords of marketing here, I presume) should get the SitS team to do it. But, if there isn't to be any then We'll just have to patiently wait for the game to come out.

    I'm with you Codex...

And I really hope there is something. I missed Sits like a few others but really appreciated the effort they put into that and X-com.

Frankly, so much of gaming is work for me and I try to keep my fan-boy in check...this is the only franchise I get excited about or keep merch for (though, i still have my Pip-boy and Lunchbox from Fallout.)...so it would be nice to keep that going with something a bit more involved.

Lawl, I couldn't handle any of the SitS puzzles. I picture one shaped like a blimp wouldn't be too cheery... >_>

I followed "Something in the Sea" from start to finish.

    Far better than reality tv.

Following Mark Meltzer's life was like peeping tom time travel. Hey, that gives me an idea.

That would be totally cool if they did something along those lines. SitS was awesome and had me running to my computer everyday to check the new hints and clues we got. I would totally be addicted to something like this all over again.

It should be noted that the URL for Somethinginthesky is taken.

    Somethingintheclouds.com is still available.

  35. It would be awesome.

But I don’t think IG is going to do it.

Maybe they’ll do something interactive within this forum community.

That'd be fun, and I'd be more than happy to participate in it. Plus, it could draw in more members.

    Nuuuu.

It's gotta happen. Hear our pleas, Irrational!

And some don't seem to keep in mind that an ARG for this would not take place at Columbia, most likely. SitS took place in New York (then a boat ), and it was about the quest for Rapture. This scenario could be easily mirrored for Columbia - if it was a secret...

If it's not a secret (apologies, but everyone seems to have a different opinion on that), probably better for it to take place AT Columbia.

I think that'd be a hard one to pull off, having a black protagonist in 1912 would be very limiting. Remember, this is WAY before the Civil Rights Movement.
