I have a special word for something that is amazingly awesome.... Awesome-bo-pawesome!!! And Mr. Levine is definitely worthy of that word. Or is it the fact that the word is worthy of Mr Levine?

Either way, he is a truly genius, awesome man!

id love to have him impregnate my wife so i could raise a son of genius and quality.

Levine is genius . not a lot of game designers talk about modernization and human wishes and idealogys. Bioshock was great and talked about things that we saw in The Matrix before. he knows how to make fun and great games.

Definitely among the upper echelon of designers, along with guys like Will Wright, Jordan Mechner, Hideo Kojima, Fumito Ueda, etc.

I don't know, this IS the man who came up with Rapture and we know how that turned out...

    ...

    I kid, I kid.

Seriously, Levine is a pretty cool cat indeed!

Reading and watching those recent interviews he did for Bioshock Infinite definitely confirmed his genius and common sense for me. He knows exactly what made the IP great, why people responded to it, what artistic merit it has, and how everything should evolve if a sequel were to satisfy everyone. When it comes to dev talks, I'm often left wanting because they keep rehashing the same stuff. He can actually tell some interesting stuff about his game: the source material, inspiration, history. It's a heck of a lot more interesting than hearing: "yeah you've got plasmids and you can shoot people with guns and it's awesome"

He really is a very intelligent guy, its amazing to hear where he came from. To think that he could have ended up staying with that telemarketing job and been stuck there all his life is pretty crazy. I am sure he is amazingly happy that he went for his dream (even tho if i recall correctly he originally was interested in movies). I wish he would speak out more and make more appearances like some other designers (Cliffy B comes to mind) but he seems to be more of a low key type / soft spoken person. As an aspiring designer myself it is always amazing to here some of these highly respected people in the industry give their opinions on anything. Keep up the good work Mr. Levine!

There's no doubt he's awesome but it takes more than one person to make game so i'd also like to say everyone else at Irrational is equally awesome.

  13. Ditto to Rapture. You should meet some of the guys/girls I work with. Way too smart for this planet.

Irrational Games is fantastic studio. With games such as Freedom Force, System Shock 2, SWAT 4 and BioShock under their belt - you don't get as good as Irrational.

  17. After playing Bioshock Ken is my number one idealistic man in existence.

Hedio Kojima was my first. I feel in love with MGS2…my first game.

I always thought to my myself games could surpass movies as the main format for storytelling with the cinematic and such. After playing Bioshock that all changed and now I my view on video games is the perfect way to tell a story without having to take me out of the experience. Since Bioshock my whole perspective on interactive art has change to this what it’s all about, this what makes art come to live.

I'm with you guys. Kojima Productions and Irrational are two of the most visionary and artistic game developers in the industry today. Team Ico is another favorite of mine. Shadow of the Collossus was amazing. I also think that Tim Schafer doesn't get the respect he deserves from a lot of people. Brutal Legend was a great game, and it's a crying shame that it didn't get better reviews/ higher sales numbers.

I'm with the poster a little above. After watching the 40min Interview with Levine and his team talking about Bioshock Infinite I knew he was great. It should be apparent after playing Bioshock that he was, but back when I originally played it I didn't think about it too much. After recently replaying it again I realized how much of a masterpiece it truly is. I read some interviews and watched one with Ken Levine and the ideas he has are just superb. Just explaining why they are doing things a certain way, it makes me happy to think someone out there actually gets it. Hideo Kojima and Ken Levine are my idols in the gaming industry. They obviously work in different ways but the creative thinking that comes out of these genius minds will be the saving grace of the Video Game Industry. By that I mean games that have a deeper meaning than just shooting and killing people.

I'ts been a while since I seen a interview with Levine but from the 40min interview and what I read, the man is a genius and knows what he's doing.

Don't underestimate your team, Ken. They're the ones who produce your dreams into a virtual world.

Also, did you know that some scientists say that genius people may be crazy people?

Ken Levine would be awesome, if he designed a new cyberpunk FPP/RPG hybrid leaning more towards the RPG ;p

It would be hilarious if Ken went to PAX East and suddenly one person said: "LORD LEVINE IS THERE, WORSHIP HIM!".

By Jove! I'd say most people on this site would be hard-pressed not to agree with you, sport!

I would say that Levin isn't just a god because of Bioshock, but because of the world and community created around Bioshock. I've never played Freedom Force or the other games yet, so I can't vouch for those just yet. But few games have ever come to the same prestige that Bioshock has, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan, but because it's the truth.

In the midst of all of this, I just HAVE to ask... How and what the hell did you do to get where you are today, Mr. Levine??? Besides being the(as I proclaim)"Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris and Clint Eastwood, all rolled into one of Game Devlopers"??? I mean, for many years I always on the lookout for a game with a storyline that was just as enjoyable as the gameplay. That search ended...... When I played BioShock. And I have only you and the wonderful people at Irrational Games to thank. Thank You...

He is, and he's smart enough to surround himself with other smart and dedicated people. And he doesn't just take credit for everything. Or seem to favor one group of gamers more than the other. Very likable. He also is willing to admit when he makes mistakes and even called himself a pretentious twat as a joke. Few people would be willing to do so.

I concur with what I read while I won't fall into idolatry, the man's got a potent talent for bringing things original to life when other devs do things way too mainstream. Cheers ^^)/
