Thread: Demo Impressions.

    Demo Impressions.

    Pros:

    • Interesting setting, with interesting characters.
    • Game's has very interesting encounters that actually questions the player morality.
    • Potential for a good story.
    • Intel is not just a meaningless count for a a trophy/achievement and helps flash the world and story out.
    • Simple command system yet leave room for enough experimentation.
    • Nice sand effect.
    • Very smooth controls.
    • Secondary fire on some weapons are interesting.
    • Synching sniper shoots with your team mates is quite fun.
    • Enemies are not bullet sponges.
    • Some combat scenarios can get interesting with you flanking enemies.
    • Cool soundtrack. Can't beat Hendrix's Stars Spangled Banner right in the main menu.

    Cons:

    • Combat is not very challenging.
    • Enemies either camp or come right at you. No real challenge in the AI department.
    • Another game with annoying "Run at you-Melee only" enemy type who just won't come down when you melee them.
    • Very linear combat path.
    • No option to ask for suppressing fire.
    • Team mates depended on you to revive them.
    • Runs the risk at to become another military Gears clone.
    • ☺☺☺☺s, ☺☺☺☺s, and mother☺☺☺☺ery galore but I understand it fades as the game goes along.
    • Usual console issues so expect much screen tear, jaggies, and some muddy texture here and there.

    Final Thought:

This demo suffers from the same problem most games do in which their PR revolves mostly on story and not gameplay. Mass Effect 2, 3, and Bioshock come to mind as demos who do not convey very well what the game is about. So far the game seems like it'll be a cool but for $30-$40. Doesn't give you the impression it justifies the full $60 price tag. Still no PC demo so these impression are based off of the PS3 demo version.

You can some of get suppressing fire. Hold down R2 (PS3) and highlight the enemy and your teammate(s) will target that particular enemy. Unless that's not what you are talking about.

And what difficulty did you choose? Was it 'Walk on the beach'?

Using the target enemy control is the only suppressing option though It's not really designed to work that way, it does allow flanking which is obviously a feature, am sure I saw other control options in older videos to set up ambushes etc, maybe it's not all included in he demo or things have changed.

Agree with the op cons although I think difficulty setting will provide a challenge and the graphics on the 360 version are pretty good & didn't notice screen tear.

I played the demo on the PS3 and the game looked very polished, but the AI needs some tweeking..other than that i say it's a go.

The damned 33rd are "ex military" arent they? so it'll be a shame if the game does rely on just throwing numbers at you (several previews said as much) or maybe there are tougher enemies, Not a game breaker but could be better

That's not suppressing fire. That's singling out one target and killing it. The combat is set up in a way that lets you flak enemy positions so you would think laying down suppressing fire would help them distract you since you are their primary target.

The developers would also be wise and try polish some AI quirks. I understand it's a demo so I must assume it's alpha build so I'm hoping they went back to it.

Well I tried in on my PS3 since there is no PC demo yet.

Man, What a complete joke. This is suppose to be a tactical shooter is it?

    Pro: Nice setting but...

Cons: Horrible graphics, lighting, combat, script, story...

Ugh, can't believe I was some what interest in this. Did this game really take so long to develop? I mean really. I just sat in the background behind the many amounts of cover and let the two other guys take out all the guys due to the aiming being horrible.

So one word wraps it up nicely. Horrible. Not for me. Hope someone enjoys it.

TBH I didn't like the first sequence, I just didn't feel it.

As for the rest of the game it felt really good, I am just concerned with how long it takes, I also kinda feel the stealth part a little shallow, my cover was blowen so suddenly and I didn't know why.

The visuals were actually really good, and the shooting was decent, I liked how when I tried bullet spraying I actually ran out of ammo, that was actually good.

Its definitely more Gears of War than Ghost Recon, tactical is stretching it a bit, but as a 3rd person action game it's very good & anything with an Apocalypse Now vibe is fine by me. There doesn't seem to be much scope for co-ordinated attacks etc but never got the impression that's what they were aiming for.

Its a very solid game, but, like most games releasing these days, its doesnt bring anything new or special. But, like I said, very solid.

Good demo 2K, I liked what I've seen so far.

Shooting mechanics are tight, which you don't see in similar competitors.

I used to be a Socom fan, but they decided to abandon their core fans. Grenade arc, shoulder switch, tight shooting mechanics, and scope in on up D pad were things Zipper tossed out. Controls and weapon feed back feel real great. Can't wait to see what MP looks like.

If COD MOW in the sand is what they wanted, well done. A good 3rd person action game, have you played many on the PC these days mate? Perhaps the past 8 years have made you forget how great 3rd person action games can be.

Why are US troops helping evacuate Dubai? Because it makes no sense at all.

Very tactical games have all dissappeared which is a real shame, but nothing I've seen of this has made me think it was going to be a tactical game, always been 3rd person action game about the horrors of war with a Joseph Conrad style plot.

The fact that it is 3rd person always gets my interest. Doesn't have to make sense to be enjoyable.

I tried it on Xbox .... overall is good ...
There are just 2 difficulty levels in the demo .... I think there should be 4 difficulty levels
so will be more challenging ... more aggressive enemies for experienced players will be fine.

We actually have a fairly large contingency forces stationed in and around United Arab Emirates city of Dubai. There's a large base in Qatar and several Kuwait bases as well. UAE is considered a US ally, not to mention ports in the Gulf. If there was a catastrophic event happening in Dubai the US would be a major player in this region for logistical and military support. Most of these Arab kings rely heavily on US support as there militaries tend to be conscripted services, plus you have Iran in your backyard which is always a concern. Sorry didn't mean to get to technical on Dubai, bottom line is the US has oil production interests and region stability issues as well since these countries in this area tend to fall like dominos.

I'm curious what has pushed the 33rd to desertion or mutiny. Especially if these are special forces they must have felt abandoned by the government, course if there was this level of mutiny they would probably send a sweeper team, kill everybody then tell people they died in a training exercise. In the service mutiny is still a crime punishable by death.

must say I like the general atmosphere of the game, the characters are endearing Bravo, the sets are really successful I love
The game play seems to me a lot too, although it seems to me that the camera is difficult to "cover", but this is the problem of this kind of game in general, the motion are not very dynamic, but it is perhaps the map available in this demo gives me that feeling.

I rehearsed, but I love the artistic part of the game, sets, colors, characters

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I must say I was favorably impressed by the demo. I really liked the graphics, the overall settings, the weapons selection.
Pre-ordered the game right after trying it! I sure hope the campaign is worth it...

Played the demo on the 360. The visuals are stunning on my big screen, simply beautiful. Unfortunately the game is gonna bomb is they don't fix the controls. The opening helo segment and the overall shooting in general is way too touchy and just...off.

Heard that in a recent video preview though there's really nothing wrong the shooting/aiming IMO, it was nice to play a game which didn't seem to have any hint of aim assist which is pretty much standard on console shooters these days.

Ok, I have played the demo on PS3 skipping all the cut scenes (I wanted to avoid spoilers) and here's my plus and cons:

+ the cover system is very fluid
+ the graphic is very solid and delivers for sure; also there are some amazing vistas (art style) and lighting (light-shafts); I also liked the HUD and LOVED the 3 filter options.
+ squad commands are a welcome addition; also I like that time doesn't stop when you give orders (Mass Effect style) and that this way tension is kept constant during-firefights.
    + no bullet sponge enemies
+ suppressors are a welcome tool and bring more tactical possibilities, especially for a cover-TPS
+ I was looking primarily for a single-player experience but now I can't wait to try the multiplayer as well...not many TPS convince me this much
+ crouch button adds more control on the character which is always nice and it's not just for show since it also has a tactical utility
    + sand as a weapon
+ slow down head-shot lets you plan your actions even more, a nice touch indeed

    - more control customization/configuration would be welcome: add southpaw, swap triggers with bumpers (R1/L1 with R2/L2), etc...
    - some textures don't load completely: red explosives barrels on rooftop when you get the sniper rifle for instance (It's an old built/demo, and I know it, but it's worth mentioning)

    A note on the difficulty:
The "Combat Op" difficulty was adequate given that it's basically "Normal Difficulty".
I let myself be killed to see how many bullets it took to die and I appreciated that you still can die quickly.
Anyway I expect challenge to raise in "Suicide Mission & FUBAR" difficulties, so expert players should met their match for sure.

i really like the slightly "cooler" vintage filter, with a bit of extra tweaking on my screen it looks really nice.

have played the demo a lot, my only big con is the lack of a firing mode selector, being able to switch to single shot would make it pretty much perfect.

Usually TPS don't have alternative fire-mode for weapons (that is something you see in tactical simulation shooter like ARMA) but Spec Ops: The Line gives you already more options than 90% of TPS that is almost natural to feel/think that "selective fire" should be three.
If Spec Ops: The Line were a more standard game we would not have cared about having "selective fire" but from the moment you equip the suppressor you realize how great it feels to have more choices.
AnywayI would not call this a "cons": Jager's only "fault" here was that they din't expect us to like small things like an "alternative fire" so much

True, I just wish it was something more games would add when they feature real world weapons.

I gotta say After playing the demo i am looking forward to this game. The story and the characters really intrigued me and left me really wanting to know what happens next. I'm also looking forward to playing the multiplayer.

    Fugue.
I just watched the IGN E3 2012 demo and I notice that selective fire is present for the AK 47.
The M4 doesn't have it, it has suppressor as alternative fire, but it's still great to have it on one weapon at least; alos who knows maybe HMG have it now as well.
    Wish granted...in a certain way

    P.S.
If "selective fire" for the AK was in the demo that I am blind.

Selective fire for AK was in the demo.
