    enemy A.I

Just played the single player demo and it was ok. my biggest complaint is the enemy A.I. There were many instances where i could just walk up to the enemy and melee them and the enemy right next to them acted like i wasn't even there and kept shooting at my A.I teammates. I've read a lot of reviews on games and this is always a critical factor to groups such as IGN and X-Play and various other video game critics. I strongly suggest smartening up the enemy A.I. I hope someone at 2K Games sees this and takes it seriously

It is a demo, so I think the actual game will have different, smarter A.I.

Not optimistic about that, demos don't often differ that much from the retail, it would be good if difficulty levels changed AI aggression etc but it'll probably be damage taken, it does seem to rely on numbers instead of enemies using tactics.

I disagree. Demos are not just parts that got cut from the main game. They have their own development and are usually made for internal and external previews and almost always use an Alpha code.

I will agree that the AI needs tweaking. I hope the developers went back to it when doing the beta.

On any case, AI is one of the hardest things to do in game development the software has to take into account so many variables that it can't help fully cycling it's AI routines. Not to mention that current console hardware severely limits the developer.

I don't remember a demo that differed much from retail in recent times, what you see a month before it hits the shelves is generally what you get, don't expect spec ops to be any different.

AI is often one of those things developers/publishers like to make bold claims about but tbh the last time I was really impressed by enemy AI was first meeting the marines in Half Life

I'm sure it's very difficult and I don't think 2k have made any bold claims, it's just a shame that it feels like you're moving from one mini hoard battle to the next, but that was probably just a design decision.

I'm hoping there are some smarter more challenging enemies at some point, they do seem like just early stage grunts.

Also in the demo, there were two other difficulties that weren't available. Maybe these other ones will help with A.I. issues...

Hope so, though most just fall back on the amount of damage you can take. Played the demo through a few times now and I do really like It so it's not something that will put me off buying, the faults are fairly minor IMO, the rest of it is very well done.

Better not be any endlessly respawning enemies, makes my blood boil

Edit- just found this old reply about difficulty which sounds positive...

    Hopefully that's still the case.

You might not notice but the difference are there I assure you. Demos are usually up way before it become public. Look at the God of War 3 demo Vs it's full game portion. I'm not saying that the differences are going to be night and day and I am not expecting it to be but demos are very different from their full game counterpart. You just don't notice it because the changes are usually in the code. You might see added textures or even added areas, sometimes.

Also, the last time you were impressed by AI was on Half Life?! You should play F.E.A.R. then. The AI on it was a real treat. Killzone and Killzone 3 also need a mention as a good AI system.

yes FEAR was good, but I think Half Life sticks with me because it was the first time I had encountered enemies like that, a few other games have been pretty good but it's almost always a case of big claims and not delivering.

I would like to see more of the sort of thing the knife wielding enemy did near the end of the demo, ok he did just charge but at least he was dodging & rolling to avoid being hit....
