    How long is single player?

Anyone know how long the story mode is? I played the demo and liked it but not sure if it's worth the purchase if the story is really short. I play multiplayer on games but I don't play multiplayer very long on shooters. For example, on Gears of War I beat it and played a few matches online and haven't touched it in awhile.

I was wondering the same thing. I hope a Mod or Dev can ball park the length for us.

Mods don't work for 2K, so we don't know!

I would hope for approx 8-10 hours, about the average now for sp campaigns.

Totally need the answer, I will buy the game for it's SP part, and anyway I am not that much into MP, so I hope the SP is worth it, at least 12hrs.

    I hope it's not like MW3. I completed that in 3 hours.

It could possible be long, two different developers are working on the game. Yager Development on SP and Darkside Game Studios for MP.

    Here is the answer:

Approximately how long is the single-player campaign?
Timo: "I would say eight to ten hours for the regular player."
The length seems to be similar to Bioshock 2 single player campaign that I totally adored

10 hours or so is good to me. I value intense quality over quantity.

Also, there are at least 13 chapters in the game because they showed a glimpse from that particular chapter at E3 2012. And what they showed was good! Reminded me the mind breaking sequences of Max Payne 1 soooo much... if anyone here knows what this classical shooter means. So surreal.

Also have to remember this is for a regular player, aka the second difficulty out of the four seen in the demo. If you play on a harder settings I'd imagine this will be longer.

Really hope this is not true, but a person who already has a copy posted a full walk through on youtube and commented that he beat the game in 4 hours on easy. Then again, Uncharted 3 was beaten in 3 hours with a speed run on easy too. Here's hoping the game is 8-10 hours long on normal.

Anyone can rush through a game on easy, not explore, not find collectibles and not take their time, that's a choice and feeble excuse to brag about something pointless which really only spoils your enjoyment of a game

Not all the claims are true either (much like the I got it early....) someone claimed to have beaten Darkness 2 in a few hours & as was pointed out much faster than any tester had managed, they didn't post again, funny that.

Of course if you pick the easiest setting and purely rush through the game it can be beaten in a few hours. You're not even playing the game at that point, just speed running it just to finish it.

I never thought about that. Besides, even if it is short rather it being 4 or 6 hours long as long as the story is amazing it will give more reason to replay right away and see the multiple endings. Is this game gonna focus on story the most and waves of enemies second though? I hate anticipating a game and then you go room after room clearing guys out instead of adding more variety and slow moments where there's downtime to understand things that have happened. To be more clear is it gonna be more psychological or have a straightforward style. I find psychological games more unconventional when it comes to design which is what I love

It's between 4-6 hours depending on skill level. Mate just passed it in under 5 hours, on hard - first time through. Believe the actual time was 4:48 or so...just under 5 hours.

I've also seen another walk through on easy that took under 4 hours. Game is pretty linear, so there isn't much to do besides the story (not that that's bad), so the times are a pretty good indication of what you'll have to do.

Personally, it sort of feels the same as The Darkness II for me -- Super short, but pretty good. So it's worth checking out, but if your money is tight....maybe wait. If The Darkness was any indication, 2K will drop the price pretty damn fast.

To be fair though - everyone plays their own way, so there's no way to tell. Darkness wasn't a long game and there weren't many collectibles. There aren't a ton in Spec Ops, either.

If the dev team comes out and says a game is X amount of time - gamers almost always beat it faster. They said 6 to 9 hours...and now people are saying 4 to 6. Sounds about right to me.

It's unfortunate, too - because they do a lot of things really well in the game. The cost proposition is going to hurt them, though, I believe.

well if the story turns out really good plus the choices factor in it could essentially add up to 6-9 hours with the replay value of seeing the different outcomes

Sounds similar to Darkness 2, that was very short though.....

but I still got plenty out of that with multiple playthroughs and vendettas, this has 4 difficulty settings, multi and free co-op, someone rushing through for bragging rights isn't going to put me off

Maybe I'm anticipating this game too much and expecting it to have a really great narrative. But the potential might just be in my imagination and not whats in front of me, although darkness 2 really impressed me with its style and substance with its narrative. I'm just thinking the reason it's short is so it's story can get straight to the point without dragging on to lose its emotional impact, just as a movie would

    .

Thought the same about Darkness 2, very short but great story with no padding for the sake of it, Max Payne 3 wasn't bad but really dragged on in the last 3rd to the point I was just glad when it was over, enjoyed Ghost Recon as well but even that fell into the same trap when the last few missions seemed to be padded out without actually going anywhere.

Is a fine line between value for money & creating a good story but rushing through serves no purpose, it's just one of those things some like to do then complain about it after

I hate to say this, but the campaign is even shorter than the 4 or 5 hour estimations I've seen in this thread already. I've completed two playthroughs already. My first playthrough was on Combat Op (Normal) and the second time was on Suicide Mission (Hard). The completion times were 3:36:08 and 3:36:11, respectively. I'm not sure if the game accounted for the time I had it paused, but if it did, I walked away to take care of other things a couple of times in both playthroughs. That could make the game sit at around just 3 hours.

HOWEVER, I will say that upon reaching the halfway point in the game, the story really kicks up and brings the gritty, mind-bending vibe that I was expecting from Spec Ops: The Line all along. It may be short, but I will remember this story for many reasons.

Not sure how you've got a copy of the game before it comes out, New_Breed - unless of course you're a game reviewer. In that case, wouldn't you still be under an NDA?

US release date is tomorrow isn't it? Plenty of UK online stores break the street date by a day or two.

I've heard similar horror stories that Bioshock 2 can be beaten in 4 hours or so.

The actual Bioshock 2 took me 11 hours on easy and 15 hours on hard so it all depends on the player.

My F12 Steam key is nearly itching to capture beautiful screenshots of sand-ravaged Dubai

Because games consist of multiple layers This one is from the demo.

Haha I thought I was the only one dissapointed in max paynes 3's length. I felt the story had no specific direction and felt it was mainly the dialogue and max Payne himself that kept me intrigued. The main plot was just not what i was expecting it felt to generic. But anyways i found this article from the ny times and skimmed to avoid spoilers but saw that their depiction of the game is something I was shocked they'd view it as. They saw it as a snuff film trying to bombard us with horrific things for the sake of shock value. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/26/ar...-personal.html

Avoiding all media til I've finished the story but not sure how you make a mature game about the horrors of war without showing them... Will read it once I'm done.

I finished it in about 6 hours, without getting all the collectibles though and on easiest difficulty. If you take your time, watch the cutscenes and listen to the in game banter, I'd ballpark 6-8 for most players.

Sounds ok to me, hoping my copy arrives tomorrow, don't think I've played a demo so much for a long time.

I'll try the demo. If I like it, I'll wait till it drops a few. I was disappointed by Rage, don't want that to happen again.
