Does anyone have the same feeling occasionally?

Alright so today i have been playing quite abit of games. Lets say 20.

I got 10 island starts approx out of these 20, now i figure this is just unlucky, because usually they dont happen this often. But the point is that i did not even have any usefull artifact near either. I got KT once, and it was to far away to be useful.

One other game i play a spanish player and he hosts. I start resyncing from the first turn throughout the whole game, constantly messing up my play. Lost a GP, half the time my rushed units are gone, techs missing (3 techs that i finished just showed unfinished again) I just quit, because i really dnnt want to spend my time fighting the bugs.

Other things like freezes and players just refuse to quit. Freezes at the moment you are winning. Barb rewards being stolen. Auto turn. And many many many many more things that are just so annoying at times.

So in the end i ask, does anyone ever feel like just quitting this awesome game because its full of bugs, and i also feel like 50% of the games i play against decent ppl are not decided by skill, but just whoever gets the good part of the map.

@Ravenmisca, yea island starts suck, and when you're playing against good competion it is very hard to come back from. But 10 island starts out of 20 is just plain unfair IMO.

I think you should stop playing civ if you get that many island starts.... especially for you being a h2h player.

It was just 1 really bad day, didnt have 1 the whole week. Just yesterday was awefull.
It was good competition practically every start, wich is also very rare on ranked.

Figured out though that without an AI cap, wich i get practically every game, my play is just really vulnerable. I guess i should start playing abit more passive civs to improve my game there.

If you have a start where you can't get an AI cap and your opponent does the normal thing and takes two, it can be extremely hard to stay competitive. Your best hope at that point is that he doesn't know the long game, doesn't press his advantage and doesn't expand enough. If he makes the right plays, you are basically done for. You can do everything exactly right and still lose.

Not saying that you shouldn't try to improve your passive game. It can be fun and rewarding to win from that position if your opponent gets a little too complacent or doesn't make all the right plays. However, the fact remains is that you are playing from a lost position and you can only turn it around if your opponent lets you.

I thought warriors always beat barbs if they are attacking at 1 and it is before 2000BC.
    Maybe I'm missing something....

I guess sometimes you have a bad day. Yesterday was rather unfilling for me as well:

Game 1 - pull up Mongols against Spain. Walk wrong way onto pennisula. And one point tried to attack barb hut from galley with wounded warrior army (attack was 1.5) and lost.
He eventually finds me, though quits a few turns later. There was no pause message, so maybe he got disconnected.

Game 2 - pull up America, so I switch to India. Bad move. My opponent is America.
Spot the Angor Wat while walking, take out the Zulu at 3300BC. Delhi gets galley droped the next turn. Botched trying to take it back, but you get the idea.

Game 3 - pull up Arabs against Egypt. He has the Hanging Gardens. Settle landlocked, and I don't get an AI cap until 2500BC (Russia). Eventually got the ball rolling, but took forever to find him. Send 3 knight armies, 1 cat army, and archer army with galleon fleet and find him (700ad?).
Get ready to switch back to fundy (was in demo) when Catherine informs me that she's gone. Advisor clash. Son of a .......

My previous game last week was a 6 tile island start. My opponent attacked and sank my galley in that one (I at least manged to get a settler and a warrior army to a larger island, only to find all the barbs were gone)

So yeah, it hasn't been very satisfying the past 2 weeks. You're not alone. I'll still play next week though.

Ye the barb grew and attacked my warrior, apparently then you can still get killed that early.

They can get killed if the barb attacks from a hill and you are on a tile w/o defensive bonus. Then it's 1 vs. 1 and the barb can win that.

Not sure about the 1 attack tho, maybe it is 0.75. Can't remember right now. But it is something > 0.5 which changes the ratio from 2:1 to something less. And the barbs can win that any time during the game.

    Yeah, it's 0.75

I've lost a few warriors that way and also some early horses. That's a sore one!
